Welcome
Pres Paul welcomed everyone to meeting 778 and asked Mez to read (recite) the
Charge to Australia and invited Peter Jarvis to toast Rotary International and also
the Rotary club of Bathurst.
Pres Paul welcomed our repeat visiting Rotarian, Jude, back to our Club after a long
absence. Pres Paul also welcomed back Allison who has the potential to be a
repeat returner!!!
After searching around the room, Pres Paul also welcomed Vera, who was trying to camouflage
herself behind a pot plant.
Apologies:
Details for this evenings meeting: In the absence of our Attendance Officer emailingthe apologies, from memory, I believe Jon Wells was our only apology.
Jerraganda business:
From the Desk of the President:
Rotary 109thBirthday: Email from our Distr Gov regards birthday celebrations on 23
Feb 14. Pres Paul asked for an indication of attendance by Club members. No-onefrom the club is going.
Club Banner: Board discussed our logo which has degraded considerably. David
Stevens found the original Goose and Pres found original clipart of the windmill and
from this they were able to rebuild the logo to upgrade our letterhead and now is
much sharper and able to be enlarged without distorting. Whilst visiting this, the
Board also looked at our Club pin and effectively we have two logos, both designed
by the same family. Board thought it may be time to retire the original and replace with the design
from the pin. The club unanimously voted that we adopt the new. Note new logo in Header!
Shelter Box Update: Pres Paul received a receipt from Shelter Box. Due to the large number of
donations for Shelter Boxes to the Philippines and as they are sending so many over, we wont be
allocated specific boxes and have been issued a bulk receipt. The Club member who made a
donation for an individual Shelter Box will get their own receipt.

Reports: Secretary
Poor little Glenn really wants someone to write to him, as all he gets is window
mail with nothing exciting. Anyone who doesnt have the Post Box number, drop
me a line. Even though we werent able to achieve 100% Attendance tonight,
(thanks Jon Wells), maybe we could achieve 100% letters to poor little Glenn!
Also, anyone who has any events of significance, pls send to Sec so that he can
add to Club Calender.
Reports: Treasurer
NTR other than the fact that the Treas emailed the Editor 3 times to provide
the Joker total. Thanks Treas.
Reports: Community:
Stop the press. Sue Jarvis had nothing to report. For the first time ever, a
Directors non report received a resounding applause from her fellow Rotarians.
Reports: Club Service:
Another Director who needs to speak up!! Thankyou for emailing your report
Paul.

Matching Grant: The matching grant for the work we are completing in Tonga requires a report to
be submitted each year. Report must be very comprehensive to meet reporting requirements. The
report was completed and sent.
The Club Pres is required to sign certification that the report is accurate which was why Terry had
to go back and forth to ensure he had all the paperwork to back up the expenditure.
RAWCS: This is the next part of the project. Chilly will now take over.
Pres Paul commented that it may be a good time to start planning next trip. The travel is at own
expense but very worthwhile.
Reports: Youth and New Generations

CLUB FORUM
Chilly: Went to see Robyn Moore who is the voice of Blinky Bill and others. She does lots of voices.
Robyn is also heavily involved in the Make a Wish Foundation. She has survived breast cancer, is
63 years young and full of energy.
Bruce: A reminder that the Relay for Life is on next weekend. There are 3 teams to choose from,
however if you dont plan to walk and would like to help, Bruce would greatly appreciate the
assistance.
Mr Liz: On a personal note, Bruce thanked the Club members for all the lovely wishes sent to him
and his beautiful bride on his union with Liz and appreciated Club members who came along to
witness the significant event.
General Business:
From Jude: Sadly Jude has to sell Betty
Blue due to health reasons, however she
was able to fly to Switzerland and have a
white xmas with her eldest daughter.
Presentation: Jude loved the idea of the
presentation of the book to the school
library from the Club to the guest speaker and took it back
to her Club, however they dont have a local primary school
to present the book to.so
A delightful thought Jude, thankyou

Jude advised us that when her daughter was in grade three she wrote a book which was put into
the school library.
Her daughter always promised she would re-write the book and publish it. Jude then produced a
copy of the book and presented it to Mrs Hunter for inclusion in the school library.
Lion King: Everyone had a great weekend. Met up with some Jarvis, but not our club members, Sue
and Peters offspring and family! The Hotel Mercure was a great spot to stay. Paul Robey advised
that Glenda should be given an honorary Directors role in the Club, Social Events Director, and we
should do it every year. As Paul Robey is thanking Glenda, and struggling to find where Glenda is
sitting, Glenn advised that Glenda would be late.
Pam subsequently thanked Glenda once Glenda had joined the meeting.
Radio Advert for Rotary: Mrs Hunter asked if the Club had heard the radio advert for Rotary. Beverly
Brock comes across very nice. This is an Aust wide campaign which encourages people to go
along to a meeting. Glenn will load wave file on the Club Website.
Family Store: Peter has moved on from the Jerra shops to other things. Joel is now the new
manager.
NYSF Feedback: Anne advised that 4 students whom she and David had hosted had sent a
thankyou card and photo.
What a delightful looking group of young adults
Four Way Test pop up thingy is missingif anyone has it please bring it home.
STOP PRESS: Pop up thingy found, in the Rotary Box where it lives. Who knew they were supposed
to be looking for something in a box????
Directors Reports: Pres Paul asked that Directors pls stand up and speak up when giving their
reports as the Jerraganda Editor struggles every week to hear some reports as do some Rotarians.
Either move to the front or ensure you are facing into the room.
From the Editor: If I am not able to hear your report, it will not be recorded.
Market Mistress:
The dynamic team needs no briefing we are all good!

********************************************************************************************************************
Joker:
Yet another great joke from our resident
Jokestress, Mrs Hunter.
Colin drew the winning ticket and
picked the Jack of Diamonds.
Takings for the night were $45.00.
I note that I omitted to include the takings for last week,
too late people, SGT is off the hook!! Takings for 30 Jan
was $40.00.
Joker Total excluding the above is:
Drum roll please.. $419.00.
***********************************************************************************************************************
SGT Fines:Another fine (chortle) session was had with the takings for the night totalling
$53.05. Pres Paul started to feel a little left out as his fines were few and far
between, but fear not, the SGT left them to the end!
I also note that I omitted the total for the Fines session the previous week, and
again, too late to even think about fining the SGT, she got in first!! The total for 30
Jan 14 was $46.70.
Heads and Tails:
Attendance:
No need to be creative here, the only apology was Jon Wells. Attendance was 96%
and I noted the Pres bringing in Port and putting Baileys in the fridge! Yay Pres.
As for you Jon Wells, how do you feel being the cause of our Club not recording a
record breaking 100%???? I suggest you also go to the bank before your next
meeting!
Another Note from Editor: If you have not sent a contribution to the Jerraganda do not
criticise the content. You have been warned.
Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen of Mez
What a glorious day at the Markets. Although there seemed to be some large open spaces and
there are still stallholders who wont be returning until Mar, we did have a steady flow of queries
and advice of lost items. There were also a couple of Stallholders who were a no show, much to
Nynkas chagrin

On asking Jon Wells where his rotary T-Shirt was, I was most surprised that his reply was I dont
have one never had one. Yup, you need to go to the bank Jon. And Im not too sure about Antons
T-Shirt either; it certainly wasnt our Club shirt
The line for the Blueberries opposite our table was its usual length and this week the Stallholder
was all done before 7.30am.
Beijing TV crew are doing a documentary on Canberra and asked if they could interview me. Given
my shy retiring nature, I had to gracefully decline and suggest they have a chat with Nynkainstead.
If its not parking its gate access! External gate at the end unlocked+ internal gate locked=
veryunhappy patrons. Boy do people get a wee bit peeved when they have to turn around and go
back the way they came.
Now, we have a broom at the office but no dustpan. When you drop kilo of sugar, makes for a
very messy clean up.
When collecting the money for the tables, one of the stallholders in the back far corner advised me
that someone had left their shopping in the corner and it had been there for some time. When I
checked, it was two bags of egg cartons (filled with eggs!). I took them back to the office and
counted them 14 dozen! A young man came to claim them. He had driven all the way home before
discovering he had left them behind. When I asked him if they were for a restaurant, he advised in
the negative. There are 4 blokes living in the house and they cook all their meals and happen to
like eggs! Good on them!
We had two separate incidents of lost property. One young lady with a baby came and asked if any
car keys had been handed in. Unfortunately they hadnt and although she wondered how she was
going to get herself and her baby home, she didn t come back, but left her name and number.
Another patron asked if any cash had been handed in as she had lost $90.00. She was most
distressed when I advised her that none had been handed in. Again she left her name and number.
Jon and Anton both bought ice which they donated. Thanks boys
Couple of updates:
Canberra Show set up next week; all items need to be removed from office and shipping container.
1 Mar 14: 10thBirthday Celebrations. Lots going on.
No markets 22 FebCanberra Show and 19 AprFolk Festival.
Vehicle AccessFrom 1 Marno vehicle access after 7am as the number of customers walking
into the area has increased before 7.30 and some deliveries and pickups were cutting things a
little too fine. Stallholders must provide trolleys for customers picking up big loads, or get them in
before 7am. Tamara will not allow cars through after 7am.
Thank you, to me.

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club
based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll ofmentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on
18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in
numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the
Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 26 Jan 2014 the Club has 26 members
11 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the
Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the
windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
I m not smart, but I like to observe. Millions saw theapple fall, but Newton was the one who asked why.
