It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jean Margaret Piro. Jean passed away quietly on January 31st in her sleep, just short of her 94th birthday at the Stanton Hospital in Yellowknife, NT. Jean was born February 19, 1923, in Edmonton, Alberta. She moved to Yellowknife in the spring of 1948 to visit friends and take a summer job; it was here she met her future husband, Mike Piro. The happy couple were married in 1949, and made Yellowknife their home. Jean will be lovingly remembered as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Left to miss her dearly are her children, Gordon (Jin), Brian, Lorie (Mike) and Sandra; grandchildren Lindsay, David (Gillian), Randi (Brad), Kim, Mike, Chanel and Cheyanne; her brothers Dave (Jean) Elliott, John (Kathleen) Elliott, and Bill (Shirley) Elliott; sisters Janet (Joe) Chambers, Doreen (Jack) Bradshaw, Doris (Bernie) Davis, and Ann (Paul) Morck; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Jean was predeceased by her husband Mike (2000), her father John David Elliott (1958), her mother Janet Oliver (Scott) Elliott (2000), sister Kathryn McEnery, and brothers-in-law JohnMcEnery and Bernie Davis. The family would like to thank Dr. Farrell, Dr. Peters, and the staff of the Stanton Territorial Hospital for their kindness and care. At her request Jean will be cremated. A Memorial Service will take place July 10th, 2017 in Yellowknife, when family and friends can attend. Donations can be made to the Stanton Hospital Foundation Extended Care Unit.
