It's been a good year for Jasopels and it is by and large thanks to our talented and dedicated employees who are goal-ori-ented in their daily work with sales, service and development of new, effective products for fur farmers.

This catalog will give you a complete view of the market's strongest product portfolio that our customers highly appre-ciate with regards to such vital points as quality, finish, user-friendliness and last but not least – excellent value for money!

A better boardJasopels is launching a revolutionary new board with proper-ties that ensure large skins. The board is made of a sturdy plas-tic material and has few movable parts, so it is durable, stable and easy to use. It can change its circumference as much as 10 mm all the way at the top, which makes it easier to take the skin off the board and thanks to efficient barbs it ensures the right skin size.

We have already drawn your attention to the WRAP Maxi Stretch Stretching machine before, but there is a good reason to do it again, as customers are incredibly happy with the re-sults they can achieve thanks to this machine. It ensures opti-mal sizes and is easy to use and cheap to run. It is clearly a hit.

New, quick Fleshing Automat T6Jasopels is launching the new Fleshing Automat, T6, which we tested thoroughly in the past pelting season. The T6 is quick, clean and efficient thanks to the ability to adjust the beam’s pressure and speed in four different zones. You can both see and feel it on the skins!

The beam returns quickly in order to be ready for the next skin. The impellers are self-adjusting, which also saves the us-er’s time otherwise spent adjusting the distance to the beam. And finally, the Fleshing Automat T6 requires far less mainte-nance than its predecessors.

Farm Manager is the futureFarm Manager is a great tool that gathers and keeps track of all the important information on the farm. In the catalog you can read more about this smart system that we have devel-oped with fur farming in mind.

Farm Manager has an impact on all aspects of daily work on the farm. It gives its users a better overview and helps in-crease their profits. We sell it and install it on all types of feed-ing machines.

Make use of our training sessionsTake part in on one of our training sessions and take full ad-vantage of your new machine! It is definitely worthwhile and even experienced breeders will find new ways of improving production once they learn about the machine's full potential. At the same time it is a good deal because when the machines achieve better results, the breeders will get full value for their investments.

In keeping with the timesJasopels has exclusive distribution rights for the world's best wire, CrapalPremium®, which is made of a unique anti-corro-sion alloy developed especially for breeders who have special requirements regarding the products’ lifespan. A quality pro-duct which we sell for the right price!

Only the best for the industryHere at Jasopels we focus on development. Therefore, we are constantly working on improving our product portfolio. We keep investing in order to future-proof our machinery and equipment so that we can offer the best to the industry. It is our tradition to do this in dialogue with fur farmers so we can continue making the world's best skins.

Welcome to Jasopels’ new product catalog. I hope you will en-joy the read!

The times are favorable and Jasopels presents interesting news…

Breeding Boxes

It is a priority for us to keep developing products that are dura-ble and highly functional, which is why we are able to offer you the most attractive breeding box on the market. Our breeding boxes are made of 11 layers of hard-pressed birch plywood.

A unique groove in the rear panel for the locking spring, which ensures a pleasant and easy open/close function. Thanks to the tapered grooves in the panels, the countersunk holes have no annoying edges. All mountings are of stainless steel, so the quality is perfect.

We have a very strong standard program regarding deliveries of many types of breeding boxes at attractive prices.

All holes are pre-drilled to ensure correct mounting of fittings. All partition walls are pre-drilled to ensure correct assembly of boxes.Unique grooves in the rear panels eliminate the need to install locks.120 mm hole in the front panel.

Jasopels Breeding Boxes are made using CNC machinery, which gives an

accuracy of 1/10 mm on all boxes.

Mink sheds

Over the years Jasopels has built up a high level of experience in building open mink sheds. This makes us one of the mink industry’s preferred cooperation partners. If you are a breeder and are thinking of building mink sheds, we are ready to give you all the professional assistance you need.

Our goal is to be the best supplier of quality mink sheds for the best price on the market. We discovered many years ago how important it is to listen to input from breeders and pass it on to our designers in order to achieve the best results.

Our carpenters set up and deliver the very best products to the customers’ full satisfaction. Of course, you can also choose one of our do-it-yourself solutions.

The quality of the materials will always be the same as that of the mink sheds that we set up for you.

We are in constant dialogue with our suppliers regarding product development in order to keep on improving the qua-lity of our products. The mink sheds we build have a sturdy construction and do not “tip” when it is windy. We put a lot of effort into including extra support in the construction of the mink sheds so that they can stand up to wind and rough weather.

If you are thinking of extending your mink sheds, you are more than welcome to contact Jasopels – we are always ready to provide you with advice and help you choose a solution that matches your needs and wishes.

Front and gable paneling

Battens

The Jasopels front and gable paneling is made of mainte-nance-free steel plates. The standard color is the “Swedish red” (terracotta red), but other colors are also available.

Jasopels uses perforated steel plates as a standard for gables and/or as side paneling, although these only come in a limited range of colors.

The current standard in all Jasopels sheds that have more than 2 rows is to have 2 battens per roofing sheet. Planed, rounded, kiln-dried rafter wood is used (70 x 70 mm), sorted according to the T1 principle.

Such a construction means extra sturdiness and support for the shed as well as safety when walking the roof. Further-more, this ensures compliance with applicable regulations for similar constructions.

BracingBracing is made with hollow ties as cross bracing on rafters below the roof battens.

Furthermore, cross bracing is made in the shape of "V's" from the bottom of the data card boards to the bottom of the roof rafters throughout the entire width of the shed.

The number of crosses depends on the number of spans. Finally, there is also longitudinal bracing with rafter wood (45 x 97 mm) on the tallest rafter legs throughout the en-tire length of the shed; in the driving spans, though, with 45 x 120 mm rafter wood. Jasopels also includes lattice girders for extra bracing in 8-10-row sheds and in 12-row sheds.

Steel consoles

Roof gutters

Jasopels produces galvanized steel consoles for cages, breeding boxes and manure pipes. They can be used in sheds with steel rafters etc.

The consoles can be found in various versions: with “feet” – for mounting on concrete floors and other level surfaces or with longer “legs” for imbedding. The consoles are made of 40 mm rectangular pipes with welded-on galvanized brackets for manure pipes and plates for mounting of mink data cards.

As a standard Jasopels uses 5-6” plastisol-coated steel gut-ter pipes from LINDAB with 3” downpipes.

Having the gutter pipes made of steel ensures better du-rability and significantly better sturdiness than it is in the case of the commonly used PVC gutter pipes.

Service

Citing the motto “prevention is better than cure”, we would very much like to draw your attention to service and mainte-nance.

At Jasopels we like to be prepared, but we know that even though we try hard to be ahead of schedule, time moves quick-ly and our technical staff are overloaded during the pelting season.

In order to provide you with the best possible service, if you al-ready know that some of your machines need servicing, main-tenance or repair, please call us to arrange a visit at yourpelting house in good time prior to pelting time.

Spare part kits

We all know how costly it is when machines go on strike during production – this also happens in pelting centers. This is why we offer you spare part kits!

When a problem occurs and the production process is interrupted, it is often a part which can be found in the spare parts kit that needs to be used to fix the problem. By having a spare parts kit on site the breeder can save a lot of money. The reparation that needs to be made can often be done with assistance over the phone.

Jasopels has hit the bull’s eye with a feeding system for mink farms that can do so much more than just feed the animals individually and quickly. Many breeders have already purchased the Jasopels Farm Manager feeding system and are using it on their farms. The breeders have given their input and expressed their wishes with regards to the feeding system. Farm Manager is now on such a high level that it can satisfy all farms’ and all breeders’ special wishes concerning daily feeding in their own individual way instead of forcing the breeders to adjust to the system.

Farm Manager is used on mink farms where between 1.000 and 12.000 females are bred. We have fulfilled all the require-ments concerning Farm Manager that were expressed by the mink breeders. The everyday challenges on the farms are a challenge for Jasopels as well. This is why we have developed the feeding system.

Call us to book a demonstration of Farm Manager and let us know if you have any ideas that will let us make our system “the world’s best feeding system”.

• The system automatically generates lists of ill animals.• The system always knows where it is without the operator

having to “remind” it.• The system creates records of medicine, defects on the farm

and dead animals.• A stable system that removes the daily portion of hard work,

frost and water.• Quick and slow feeding in the same row without having to

press any buttons.• Quick and easy adjusting of food amounts for every cage.• Overview and buttons that are big enough for the thumb of a

real man.• The program is available in several languages and for several

breeders on the same machine.• Fully automatic backup and many units that communicate

with each other and share data.• It is possible to create birth rate curves, illness records, death

records, puppy numbers, feed statistics and growth cycle re-cords without having to connect to any extra equipment.

• Reverse function, thanks to which the machine does not waste feed when driving out of the rows and when there are several empty cages in a row.

– possibly the best feeding system for mink farms in the world

Farm Manager allows you to control individual feeding

By journalist Thorkild Høj

Lars Kristensen and his brother Jack run Burmølle Mink to-gether outside Holsterbro. Their farm is a well-established business with over 10.000 females.

Two seasons ago they worked with a system for individual feeding that they did not find satisfactory. Their goal has al-ways been that of achieving optimal feeding, increased well-being and larger animals. At that time Jasopels introduced the new data-driven Farm Manager and Jack Kristensen decided to purchase Farm Manager along with the big Soffie 1500D feeding machine from Jasopels.

– We have been using Farm Manager on our entire farm since April 2012 and the results have been satisfactory, as we now have larger animals, just like we wanted. There is more peace in the mink sheds as the animals are getting the amounts of feed that they need and fewer skins have been damaged, which is probably also due to the fact that the ani-mals have been getting enough feed and thriving even more, says Jack Kristensen.

– It took a lot of time and energy to start using Farm Mana-ger, but I think it was worth the effort. In the puppy season the number of animals in each cage was different. On the first day we spent a lot of time putting the feed manually, but after that the computer remembered everything and I could have had virtually anybody do the feeding because Farm Manager

controls the whole process. The system has allowed us to use the feed in an optimal way, says the ambitious mink breeder.

Farm Manager consists of a well-arranged screen that is mounted on the feeding machine. On the screen the user can retrieve and input various types of data thanks to a set of pre-loaded symbols just by touching the screen lightly.

Farm Manager is always up to date as far as the machine’s location on the farm, feed and (if applicable) medicine con-sumption as well as other essential information concerning each cage are concerned.

– Yet another advantage of the system is that if I am away from the farm, I can receive lists by phone or by e-mail. This allows me to determine whether I need to have my employees e.g. go and check some of the cages the following morning. This way we can reduce the number of errors and see to any irregularities that may occur, says Jack Kristensen.

– It takes time and energy, and it forces you to change the methods that you are used to, but this is also the case with alternative solutions. Getting started probably took two or three weeks but getting to know all the details of Farm Manager takes even longer. But once you have done that, work just flows.

– In the case of our farm using Farm Manager has meant more peace in the cages, less damage to the skins and lar- ger animals. At the same time we have eliminated feed waste,

24www.jasopels.com

Farm Manager

Page 25: Jasopels product catalogue 2013

which is also very important. I have measured the skins after they have been stretched and they are larger this year, says Jack Kristensen.

Burmølle Mink purchased their first Soffie 1500D feed-ing machine in 2011 along with Farm Manager, which was fol-lowed by another one so that the entire farm could be covered.

Burmølle Mink have installed an ergonomic arm rest, as each of the machines operates for over six hours a day. Apart from that, Burmølle Mink have adjusted the feed pump in or-der to combine a maximum amount of distributed feed with low rpms.

– Jasopels has provided very good service – they listened to our requests and adjusted the feeding machines and the computer the way we wanted it. We have had some technical problems under commissioning. Other than that it was hard to get rid of old habits, but now that we had the system properly run in, there are really a lot of advantages of using the system and it has allowed us to achieve the desired results, says Jack Kristensen.

– The system has been working on the entire farm since April 2012. The animals have been getting the amounts of feed

that they need and we have had no feed waste in comparison with the period prior to getting Farm Manager. As we started using the system when it was brand new, we got all the “child-hood diseases” along with it. But to Jasopels’ credit I must say that they come when we call them and they get the problems solved, so we have had no major interruptions in production. But there was a period when Kenneth Zobbe, who has devel-oped Farm Manager for Jasopels, was a frequent guest on our farm, says Jack Kristensen with a twinkle in his eye.

In connection with the acquisition of Farm Manager Burmølle Mink have also installed a wireless network in their sheds so that communication with the computer can take place non-stop, regardless of the feeding machine’s location.

This also means that it is possible to make modifications and update Farm Manager at any time and thus avoid having to interrupt work to do that. It is also possible to retrieve data from the system while working, which can help the user avoid waiting time when new tasks come up while at work, e.g. if the user discovers the need for that during feeding.

Feeding machines

Page 30: Jasopels product catalogue 2013

By journalist Thorkild Høj

Last season Jasopels presented a new, handy feeding ma-chine – Soffie 700D. The machine has a feed tank at the front and a mixer, and it can get around in the mink sheds even when there is little room.

Mink breeder Villy Hestbech from near Struer bought a new Soffie 700D last year, and he has been very pleased with the new feeding machine, which he describes as handy and relia-ble. It has helped the mink breeder with an annoying problem."The mixer is a big hit. Now I can get the feed to have the ex-act consistency that I want and I am really happy with that. We no longer have to struggle with very rigid and unmanage-able lumps of feed," says Villy Hestbech.

"Another advantage is that I have the opportunity to en-hance the feed with extra ingredients much more efficiently, e.g. when the animals have stomach trouble. I can also be sure that the medication is evenly distributed and is not gathered somewhere in uneven clumps," says Villy Hestbech.

"The feed should have a thin consistency so that it hangs down in the cage just enough for a mink to take a mouthful. With the mixer it is easier to achieve a uniform result, and it is very satisfying to see how evenly the feed is coming out of the feeding hose, instead of having water and food running al-most separately."

On the farm they have always worked with a feed tank at the front of the feeding machine. There is not much space at

the ends of their sheds, so the larger feeding machines with a tank and a mixer have never been an option.

"We have often had to stand there and bang on the feed tank with a broomstick when the feed was too rigid and clumped together, so it is a great relief to have the mixer. It makes adding a little water and getting it properly distributed so much easier," says Villy Hestbech.

"In the puppy season, for example, it is also a huge advan-tage that we can add extra water so the puppies that do not drink much still get enough liquids to survive. Yes, there are many advantages of the new feeding machine", says the mink breeder.

One of the advantages, however, was not well received by Villy Hestbech.

"We got an ergonomic armrest, in which case you are sup-posed to put the feeding hose up in the holder and then drive around and feed. But in our sheds we have a number posts that you cannot just pass with such an armrest, and there-fore we had to take care of that many times in each shed. And we got really tired of that very soon! Jasopels had to move the hose from the feed tank, so we now have it lying above the knee, as we always have. Thanks to that we drive freely and easily through the sheds and feeding work has been going very well without extra support for the arm," says Villy Hest-bech.

Due to the mentioned conversion Jasopels has been offer-ing to Soffie 700D either with an ergonomic armrest or, as in Villy Hestbech's case, with a shorter, hand-held feeding hose.

Training

Take part in a training session and make money!

With the Jasopels pelting machines work is performed quick-ly and correctly. This way efficient working conditions and high quality of the final product are ensured.

Jasopels are now stronger than ever in their efforts to offer fur farmers the best solutions for skin handling, whether what you want is a solution for the entire process or just individual machines.

Jasopels provides effective solutions for all phases of the process (putting the animals down, skinning, scraping, stretching and drying) until the moment when the skins are in the storage room, ready to be shipped. Every step is per-formed in the professionally best possible way.

The machines are designed and developed based on many years of experience in the fur industry.

In our development department accomplished professionals work all year long to develop and improve the machines so that we can always offer you the best products on the market.

We test the machines thoroughly before they are released for sale in order to make sure that you get products that are all of high quality. At the same time we focus significantly on achieving the best possible working functions.

In order to make work even easier and more efficient, we have developed a number of unique tools and machines over the years. Their task is to transport mink skins, bodies and sawdust during the pelting process so that everything can be done in a single operation cycle, with great efficiency and with work satisfaction as a result.

Jasopels offers all users of new Jasopels machines practical training aimed at allowing them to get the most out of the pelting process and helping them become familiar with the machines before pelting season.

Last season a couple hundred mink breeders agreed to par-ticipate in Jasopels' practical training in the use of the Wrap Maxi Stretch stretching machine with spindle (2 days), Fleshing Automat XL (2 days) and Pelting Robot (2 days).

It gives you overview and energy to keep the pelting center running effectively – e.g. during peak load periods, when it is necessary to change a spare part – so that you can move the production process forward as soon as possible.

In 2013, the courses are being held in September 30 - October 4 and October 7-11. "We invite all breeders who have bought a new pelting ma-chine of one of the mentioned types to participate in a trai-ning session concerning the machines’ operation so that they can get the best possible results out of the skins," says Mogens Kristensen.

Henrik Bækgaard, who is a consultant at the National Cen-tre for Fur Animals, thinks that the courses are a good idea. "Pelting errors due to ignorance, carelessness, haste or lacking knowledge of the machines cost the industry millions of euro every year. Therefore, there is much money to be saved by

taking part in the training session because you get to make mistakes and learn from them here, and then go home and do a far better job on your own farm,” says the consultant. If you have questions about the training, please feel free to contact your local sales representative or call +45 9842 0566.

On the following pages you will find our selection of machines and accessories. We are ready to provide service with the aim of creating the best solution for you and your fur farm.

Mink breeder Freddy Christiansen replaced his old fleshing automat with a new model last season. Upon doing that he decided to participate in Jasopels' training session held in Frederikshavn.

"Before I left home to go to the training session, I thought that after 10 years I knew enough of what was worth knowing about fleshing machines, but now I'm really glad that I attend-ed the training session,” says Freddy Christiansen.

"During the training we had a lot of opportunities to exper-iment with the fleshing automat and test it out in ways you don’t do at home, in your own pelting facility. At home we are more likely to do what we are used to. Here we could sudden-ly see a clear difference in the outcome and it has given me an even greater understanding of what fleshing machines can do,” says Freddy Christiansen.

There were 6 - 8 people on each team, so there was time to talk and everyone got a chance to try the different challenges along the way, so we became familiar with all of the fleshing automat’s different functions.

"In the course of the training session we tried a lot of dif-ferent settings, changed impellers and worked with different pressure settings, and we got to see all the different results that came out of it. It makes a huge difference to be in Fred-erikshavn and have time for all this. On one’s own fur farm there are plenty of other things that always need attention.

Talking to other breeders also provides tips and inspiration, as they also come with a lot of experience in trying to create the best possible result,” says Freddy Christiansen.

Jasopels offers practical training sessions that allow the us-ers to get the most out of their expensive machines. The aim of the sessions is for the users to become more familiar with the machinery before the season starts. The training session devoted to the use of the Jasopels Fleshing Automat T5 takes two days so that the participants really get an opportunity to go through all the functions and become familiar with the machine. Another goal is for the participants to be able to per-form elementary maintenance and service tasks so that un-planned interruptions in the production process do not take place during the pelting season. Last but not least, we want the users to be able to make the necessary adjustments them-selves and this way make sure that they achieve the best re-sults.

"When you think about it, the amounts of money we run through the pelting center are huge, and everything that can lead to better results is worth the money in the end. The train-ing session is also a really good deal and I am thinking of par-ticipating again if a follow-up course is held in a couple of years. Now I know that it makes sense to keeping yourself up to date,” says Freddy Christiansen.

Freddy Christiansen made a good investment

Jasopels Drums

The new family of Jasopels’ effective drums has already be-come highly appreciated by both Danish and foreign fur far-mers. This is, of course, a result of many factors. The success is by and large due to the fact that apart from being effective and reliable, the machines have been designed with the ut-most attention paid to both safety and the working environ-ment.

It is characteristic for all new Jasopels drums that the ro-tating core is encapsulated. In this way we made sure that the user cannot get to the moving parts unintentionally. The traditional belt drive is no longer used in the new drums. This means that you get a drum without tensile stress and you save money on wearing parts. The large wheels are driven by direct drive with a soft-start feature, which ensures smooth operation, and at the same time the absence of belts makes the machines very quiet. We have, of course, equipped the larger models with the latest digital technology, which makes programming very easy.

Put suction on your drums to improve the working environment.

Regardless of how good and expensive sawdust you are using, there will always be varying occurrences of what is called dan-gerous dust, which is basically dust smaller than 0,063 mm.

Dust is as such very light and it is practically invisible to the naked eye. All wood contains a certain amount micro- organisms, yeast and mould fungus, which may cause serious respiratory diseases.

If you want to improve the working environment in your pelting center, we recommend that you install suction devices with your drums. The machinery itself is placed outside of the pelting center in order to eliminate both noise and dust from the workplace.

Page 45: Jasopels product catalogue 2013

By journalist Thorkild Høj

Mink breeder Søren Finnemann of Hundebøl Mink near Rød-ding purchased a new Pelting Robot XXL with the new skin moving system last season and his general assessment is that it was a good investment.

“I have been crazy about the system that moves skins away from the Pelting Robot from the day I saw it! Even before I got it delivered, I knew that it would make a big difference in my pelting center. With the previous pelting robot we had to stand there and grab the fat-covered side of the skin to move the skin away, and then we had to put our hands into a bucket with sawdust before grabbing the next mink. But every now and then we ended up leaving fat marks on the fur, which was quite annoying,” says Søren Finnemann.

“We had had the previous pelting robot since 2007 and it needed to be updated along with the safety package in order to live up to legal requirements. Although we did decide to go for that solution, it would still be a used machine. I thought it was a lot of money for an update and decided to get the latest version of the machine,” says Søren Finnemann.

“And on top of that, it was beginning to get hard with the largest skins. We had to take them off ourselves, which did not make much sense because we actually had a pelting robot to do the job. The new one can handle even the longest skins, and the adjustment of chain rollers is better compared to the old one. We don’t have to touch the fat-covered side of the skin any more now that the machine passes the skin onto the conveyor. It has definitely lived up to our expectations,” says Søren Finnemann.

“The pelting robot has been very stable. We have gone through around 12.000 skins during the season, on average 800 a day. Out top score was 1.200 skins in one day, which is very satisfying,” says Søren Finnemann.

“We can spend more time by the pelting robot, but now we have a new challenge. We must keep an eye on the box, where the skins end up once they are off the conveyor. We must make sure the box moves so that more skins can fit inside it. Otherwise we must go and grab it all the time, which is an-noying,” says Søren Finnemann.

“In general we are happy with the pelting robot. It fits well into a pelting facility like ours, where it is crucial that one person must be able to do the skinning work. However, we have not had a good relationship with the machine’s touch screen. It doesn’t react like a traditional button, so sometimes you end up standing there and keeping on pressing buttons several times until the machine registers it. The problem is, obviously, that we wear gloves, but we need to make it work better in the future,” says Søren Finnemann.

At Hundebøl Mink they have had one man work using the pelting robot, but sometimes rotation is needed to prevent work from becoming too much of the same.

“One ends up standing in the same way and supporting one’s body on the same leg all the time because of the foot pedal, so it is necessary to take a break. It is also an advantage to follow what is going on in the rest of the pelting facility and see what it is that gives good results,” says Søren Finnemann.

Skin conveyor has eliminated the problem of fat marks

It is our great pleasure to present to you the Jasopels Pelting Robot XXL.

The Pelting Robot’s appearance is the same but its insides have been much im-proved. We have taken the best features from the previous models and put them together with the market's best skinning technology from our Skinning Machine T11, so we now dare promise you that you can skin even the biggest males yourself, without any unwanted stops during the process.

The skinning process takes place by means of a more linear motion and the number of movable parts has been re-duced so that the machine is more user-friendly. We have installed a bigger dis-play and loaded new software so your Pelting Robot XXL is ready to meet the challenges of forthcoming years – at least as far as size is concerned.

Mink breeder Jens Christian Thomsen from near Årre bought a Jasopels Pelting Robot last season and chose to supply it with the new skin moving system, a conveyor belt with a sawdust container set up behind the robot so that the machine can put the skins in the back and has an opportunity to create an even better workflow for the entire pelting center and for the robot’s operator.

“I chose a used Jasopels Pelting Robot XXL with all the latest updates because I wanted to be able to work even with the largest males myself, and it has worked well throughout the season,” says Jens Christian Thomsen, who has gone through 15.000 mink using the robot with no problems.

“We never have to deal with sore arms any more, as we don’t have to take skins off the large males ourselves. The robot helped us increase our work tempo and gave the pelting center a nice rhythm,” says Jens Christian Thomsen.

The pelting robot moves the skins to the back and puts them on the skin conveyor, where there is also a sawdust container that gives every skin a little bit of sawdust while on the conveyor.

“The skin is moved away from the area around the pelting robot, and then we put them in boxes. Their next destination is the fleshing machine. We used to hang the skins on hangers and we had to stop every time we had 15-20 skins. With the skin conveyor we can work longer without stopping, which has given us a better working rhythm, as we are no longer in the way for each other,” says Jens Christian Thomsen.

There are to men who can take turns operating the pelting robot. They go through 100 females an hour (on average) and slightly fewer males. We can now operate the robot longer and work more efficiently because we can get a good workflow and focus 100% on the mink.

The start-up of the machine went fine, partly because Jens Christian Thomsen had had a pelting robot before, so he had no problems in the beginning. Jasopels’ installation employee, Kim, came over and set up the pelting robot and skin conveyor a week before the pelting season began.

“During the first week the combined operation of the robot and skin conveyor needed adjustments so that the machines could follow each other, but they have been working well together since then. I think that Jasopels has provided good service. The Pelting Robot is easy to operate. The programming simply makes it work. Every now and then you need to loosen a valve, but this can be taken care of on the phone, so we have not experienced a situation, where we would have to stop our production, which is great,” says Jens Christian Thomsen.

“The Pelting Robot works well, and it has freed us from quite a burden. We are happy with the way things are, as it means that we can let our bodies take it easy. You don’t get as tired when working with the pelting robot and all the auxiliary machines, which means that even smaller farms can now keep up with others in the efforts to make top quality skins,” says the mink breeder, who has around 1.000 females on his farm.

Self-adjusting impellers

Jasopels has developed a system that no longer requires you to adjust the impellers after installing new ones. The new Jasopels Fleshing Automat T6 adjusts the impellers itself based on the data that have been typed in on the user-friendly touch screen. The Fleshing Automat is therefore easy to oper-ate for new employees and gives the user a good and regular result!

No mess

Thanks to this “tidier” fleshing automat you can avoid unnec-essary stops for minor adjustments and cleaning.

The new Fleshing Automat T6 has many good features, one of which is that the mess it creates is minimal. Thanks to the new closed suction box the fat from the fleshing device does not get the fleshing automat dirty and at the same time it keeps the impellers quite clean.

The effect is an easier work day for you, a better working environment and, what is even more important, a better and more regular fleshing result and a greater capacity.

Fast change of impellers

The newly-developed system in the Jasopels Fleshing Automat T6 can move the impellers out of the suction box using com-pressed air. This improves working conditions while changing the impellers and makes things much easier.

After the impellers have been installed, they are moved to the right position via the display and then they are automati-cally adjusted. An experienced employee can do all this in just 5-7 minutes.

Fleshing Automat T4/T5

It comes as no surprise that for decades the Jasopels Fleshing Automat XL has been praised as the best fleshing machine on the market. It performs a solid piece of fleshing work and it is quick, cheap to run and very reliable. – This is why we have made it even better! The big touch screen gives the operator quick overview and provides a chance to switch between the machine’s operating modes in an easy and manageable way. This allows you to achieve a more regular fleshing result even if your skin types are mixed!

Active Per4mance® is a system developed by Jasopels that makes it possible for you to change the beam speed and the impeller pressure of 4 independent zones. This allows you to adjust the machine precisely to your skins.

All impellers have been equipped with shock absorbers. In practice this means that the impellers stay on the skin, which results in a significantly better fleshing. At the same time the machine is a lot gentler when fleshing damaged skins!

Jasopels has developed a new Fleshing Automat, T6, with the goal of giving mink breeders even better efficiency and constantly good pelting results. The new fleshing automat has been tested by four different mink breeders in the previous season. One of the tests was carried out by John Lykke on his farm outside Janderup in Western Jutland.

“I think we fleshed 45.000 skins and 98% were all right. There are a lot of things that contribute to our increased fleshing efficiency. The more continuous operation has meant that we have been able to flesh more skins within the same amount of time, which is very satisfying,” says John Lykke and adds:

“It is not that we are unable to achieve a good result using the old machine, but the new Fleshing Automat T6 is simply easier to work with and more consistent. It makes less mess and it is easier to keep clean, which gives the employees more motivation to clean the area around the machine.”

“We have often changed impellers, approximately after 5.000 skins. One of the reasons why we did that was that it is so easy. The skins get fleshed in a more consistent way, also by the front paws. This means that I no longer have to walk around checking whether the result is acceptable. And this means the world to me because I also do fleshing work for others,” says John Lykke.

“For females we have been able to use way less pressure and a harder type of impeller than expected. This has

given us very good and consistent results, and we have also experienced fewer stops along the way, which, again, allowed us to flesh more skins within the same amount of time,” says John Lykke.

“Thanks to the machine’s design, the operator is no longer isolated behind a big box and becomes a part of the team working in the pelting center. This is beneficial for the working environment, and in my opinion it means a lot. So, in general I think that the new fleshing automat is an upgrade for the pelting center,” he concludes.

Jasopels’ service technician, Kurt Pedersen, who has been responsible for the development of the new Jasopels Fleshing Automat T6 said: “We started by taking the previous model completely apart and putting only what was necessary back together. This way got to a fleshing automat that is reliable, efficient and maintenance-friendly.”

The beam has been turned, so it is now taller than it is wide, thanks to which the front paws are always on the beam’s side. The beam is made of polyurethane cast around a steel core, it is very smooth and therefore easy to keep clean. The beam moves the skin towards the impellers that are divided into 4 zones, for which the operator can adjust pressure and speed, and then it gets pulled back quickly so that it is ready for the next skin.

Each of the four impellers has its own motor. The impellers come in different kinds and can be changed, depending on the type of skin that is to be fleshed. The impellers are self-adjusting, which saves the operator a lot of time, as

Pelting machines

Page 55: Jasopels product catalogue 2013

the distance from the beam does not need to be manually adjusted. The front paw scraper also has its own motors. It is possible to adjust the speed of each of the motors individually and to adjust pressure and revolutions in order to achieve the optimal result. It is possible to remove the motors from the machine, which makes changing impellers quick and easy.

The impellers have a bigger diameter, thanks to which they are more effective. The skin – and the beam – gets rinsed with warm water during scraping. There is one central suction device that removes the fat effectively before the skin is treated with sawdust and transported away for tumbling. The sawdust device is now smaller but more efficient – dosage is controlled via a well-organized touch screen that can be programmed and updated online.

There is a sensor by the impellers. Its task is to register how long the skin is so that all of it gets fleshed. Both the beam and the fat scraping device are self-adjusting, thanks to which the operator is able to save time. In general the fleshing automat requires less maintenance. When the machine needs to be serviced, it is possible to open everything and all parts are easily accessible.

“In order to get the best out of the new Jasopels Fleshing Automat T6, it is important to take part in a training session before starting to use the machine. This makes things easier for the machines’ users and for our service team so that we can achieve the very best fleshing results together. Ultimately, it is also worth a lot of money!” says Kurt Pedersen.

Last season, mink breeder Søren Hansen from Hjejlundgård near Esbjerg used Jasopels’ new line of impellers, MotionWave. He experienced many advantages, such as less noise during fleshing, high quality at reduced pressure and longer lifespan of impellers, which, again, means saved time and lower expenses.

“Throughout the previous season we used our fleshing automat with the new, wave-shaped impellers from Jasopels. We used less pressure, but we still achieved a fleshing result that we find extremely satisfying. The impellers are less worn. You actually can’t even tell that they have been used just by looking at them,” says Søren Hansen, who has fleshed around 35.000 skins throughout the season because he also does fleshing work for three other mink breeders.

“There is a lot less noise coming from the machine during fleshing. I work next door from the room where our fleshing machine is. A couple of times I have actually gone to the other room to check whether they were having a break because I could not hear the machine work. But the machine was actually working and everything was all right. This was not the case before – the previous machines sometimes sounded like chippers,” says Søren Hansen, who has been following the development of 6-, 7- and 8-tooth impellers for years.

This season Søren Hansen has been primarily using the 8-tooth blue version of MotionWave impellers in his fleshing automat.

MotionWave is a newly-developed impeller with deeper grooves that take more fat away with every rotation, which is also enhanced by the wave-like cutting motion. The V-shaped teeth are slightly displaced from one another, which is where the name WaveMotion comes from. The impellers are sharpened very precisely, which means increased efficiency, even at a lower pressure. This way a gentle, more effective fleshing of the skin is achieved. The new impellers are produced in 7-, 8- and 9-tooth versions and come in different hardness variants, so they can be applied to every kind of mink skin.

“We used to be able to flesh half the amount of skins until it was necessary to change impellers. Even in the other half the new impellers do a great job and work like a Duracell battery. They keep on going and giving a great fleshing result,” says Søren Hansen.

“When I change impellers, I can’t actually see that they are worn. The old ones used to be chipped and have scratches, so it didn’t seem realistic to reuse them. But Jasopels’ employees have said that they can actually sharpen the new impellers again so we can save even more money. We will definitely try it,” says Søren Hansen.

”I think that my conclusion should bet hat the new impellers have allowed us to achieve a great result. We have controlled the skins thoroughly and we have not found errors on any of them. We haven’t had complaints from other people that we do fleshing for, so therefore I can say that we’re going to continue using the blue, wave-shaped impellers. They are the best ones we have tried so far,” concludes Søren Hansen.

A new series of Jasopels impellers is on the market. Thanks to the brand new wave pattern that we call the MotionWave, Jasopels has once again succeeded in taking effective fleshing to the next level. The new impellers have deeper grooves that can carry more fat, helped along the way by the undulating cutting motion.

On top of that the new impellers are sharpened in a brand new way, thanks to which they have a considerably sharper profile than other known products. The new impellers come in various versions – with 7, 8 or 9 teeth. Of course, we still produce the 8-tooth impeller with a traditional pattern and deeper grooves for easier fat removal.

Jasopels sawdust for a competitive price

By journalist Thorkild Høj

Mink breeder Freddy Christiansen, who has a farm at Præstbro outside Dronninglund, has used Jasopels sawdust for a number of years. He also went through a period when he purchased from another supplier but he has returned to Jasopels.

"I think that Jasopels’ sawdust is a good product for a competitive price. It is a little cheaper, and the quality is right. We have used about six pallets of sawdust and we have not had problems with dust or color transfer in the case of bright skins, so I am very pleased”, says Freddy Christiansen.

Jasopels produces two types of sawdust, 50 mix and 60 fine. Both types are available in convenient 20 kg bags.

"I use the fine kind for everything – this way I don’t worry

about keeping the two kinds separated and not mixing them by mistake. I find Jasopels sawdust easy to work with and we have been very pleased with the results of our pelting work so we definitely aren’t planning to change our sawdust supplier“, says Freddy Christiansen.

Jasopels’ sawdust is produced in Germany, in a new production plant that was opened in 2011.

Production is under constant control in order to ensure that the quality is always the best. Jasopels recommends that you acclimatize the sawdust by letting it sit for a few days in the room where it is to be used so that it reaches room temperature. Performance is best at around 20-22 degrees, which is when the absorbency is optimal. You can also use a sawdust heater, thus optimizing the sawdust’s ability to clean and absorb fat.

Søren Buhl’s ambition level is very high and you can feel his enthusiasm the moment you start talking to him. Søren and his wife, Michelle, have been thinking of starting their own pelting center to go along with their farm. Most of all fac-tors it is the economy that matters for a young married cou-ple with two small children and lots of plans for their farm outside Ulfborg.

But the decision has been made and the machines have been bought. After that there was no doubt that the young couple also needed to take part in one of Jasopels’ training programs in Frederikshavn in order to get to know the machines as well as possible in order to achieve the best results.

“Taking part in the training also meant that we met many other mink breeders, talked to them and exchanged tips and tricks,” says Søren Buhl. “We would like to emphasize that the training was worth all the money and thanks to taking part in it we are not afraid to test different settings. We also know what the machines can do and what maintenance and repara-tions they require in order to perform as they are expected to,” says Søren Buhl.

His wife, Michelle, adds: “We were very sceptical before we decided to get our own pelting center and invest in all the ma-chines and equipment. We were talking about getting 10 kro-ner more for every skin so that it all made sense. But once we got started, it turned out to be a great success and we are now very happy that we actually did it. And there is no doubt that this has also made us set our ambitions for the future even higher.”

“We would like to expand and from this year on I’m not go-ing to skin all the mink myself like I did last year. I am going to be all around to make sure work is flowing as it should and to check if the quality is good enough,” says Søren Buhl.

“We are attending another training session this year and all of our machine operators are coming with us so that they can get some inspiring input before we start working. It gives you a better understanding of the machines, both in theory an in practice. You benefit so much just from exchanging tricks of

the trade with others, but also from taking some of their ad-vice home and making use of it,” says Søren Buhl.

“The training session gave us a good start, even though we had a lot of previous experience from other pelting centers. It was nice to be able to talk about all the different things at home afterwards. It makes us feel calm and confident around our machines and allows us to make plans for the coming pelting season,” says Michelle and adds: “It is nice that our skills overlap and that we can take turns operating different machines. Especially if problems occur and Søren has to take care of them so that there isn’t too much waiting time.”

Among the new machines in the pelting center you can see Jasopels’ new WRAP MaxiStretch.

“This one has become my machine!” says Michelle with a big smile. “It’s been hard for me to step aside and let others use it. I’ve become so familiar with it and it is really easy to use, the skins keep their sizes and our results are really good.”

“We were a little in doubt about the sizes, partly about how big skins we were making and also we didn’t know whether the skins would actually keep the sizes. We talked to Jasopels about it during the pelting season. We always make sure that the foil is wrapped very tightly. After having controlled many of our skins we can say that the sizes are the same and the re-sults are satisfactory,” says Søren Buhl.

“The trick is to fasten the skin properly and make sure that the belly, the back, the rear paws and the tail are placed cor-rectly. Then you need to wrap the foil very tightly so it almost becomes white but doesn’t break. At first we had to wrap some of the skins again, but now work is going much faster and we can even reach 800-1.000 pcs. a day and the skins are all wrapped correctly,” says Michelle.

“Starting our own pelting center has given us a sense of freedom and an opportunity to keep up the good work and make sure that it gets done properly. The quality needs to be top notch and we will definitely continue working to maintain that,” says Søren Buhl.

The plan is to extend the farm already in the next season and the three keywords are: quality, quality and quality. “We must get to the top 50 in order to secure our future in the business,” says Søren Buhl.

WRAP MaxiStretchCode no. 3230-340015

The fact that over 250 WRAP MaxiStretch machines were sold last season means that over 18 million skins are stretched worldwide using this machine. It also means that breeders’ interest in better stretching is not getting any smaller – on the contrary!

Countless clients have told us that they have achieved better selling prices – partly due to the fact that their skins have actually gotten bigger thanks to WRAP MaxiStretch and partly because of the way the WRAP does not let the skins shrink during the drying process.

“The weakest pelt decides”Not any more – since the introduction of Dynamic force® it is the current pelt that is the starting point instead of a generalized value.

In short words the system works as follows: WRAP MaxiStretch measures the pelt and then digitally sets the machine’s force based on the starting point.

In other words this means that a pelt which is of size 0 before stretching will not be exposed to the same force as a pelt that is of size 2 x 0 – simply be-cause largest pelts are able to endure greater force. What you get is a new sense of certainty that all your pelts have been stretched in an optimal way. On top of that you also get a machine that is faster.

“Stretch’n release”If a pelt cannot be stretched to the next size, there is no point in keeping it stretched to its maximum length. In such cases WRAP MaxiStretch can automat-ically reduce the force, which will allow you to achieve the perfect balance between size and quality.

Switch quickly between your pelt types using 8 different programsDifferentiated wrapping – wraps up only what is needed for current peltsFully programmable stamp-function – you get to choose the amount of force appliedA special gentle function – suitable for damaged peltsThe board’s position can be chosen by the user

Last but not least WRAP MaxiStretch has the lowest running costs on the market.

By journalist Thorkild Høj

Bøgsted Mink near Hjallerup is known as a producer of top class skins.

They have been working with WRAP MaxiStretch for two seasons. Last season they stretched approximately 25.000 skins. The result was top notch – no shrinking after drying and no jaw marks.

This is not what it was like in the beginning. Before the season, the machine’s computer was routinely updated and the jaws for rear paws were replaced with new ones in order to ensure a regular pull on the sides and a perfect stretching result on all skins.

“Right when we started, the machine was pulling the skins too hard, which is why we had Kurt from Jasopels visit us. He adjusted the program so that the machine pulled in smaller intervals but still managed to get the skins stretched to the desired size. I guess you can say that the machine has become a little gentler, especially when it comes to female skins,” says Rasmus Bøgsted, who has stretched all the skins at Bøgsted Mink.

“We have many bright mink skins, which are probably more delicate than the average. This is another reason why we are so happy with our WRAP MaxiStretch, as it can show consideration for all types of skins and stretch them according to their needs. It is incredibly stable and does some real quality work. It is also user-friendly,” says Rasmus Bøgsted.

“The advantage of having WRAP MaxiStretch is that we get to decide about the result, not the machine. It is very easy to switch it from one type of skin to another using the pre-programmed control system, and it contributes greatly to our pelting center’s good results,” says Rasmus Bøgsted.

Rasmus Bøgsted is a third generation mink farmer. His grandfather started with 56 females in the 1960s. His ambitions and results speak for themselves. Achieving the best results requires hard work, which is why the same is required of the machines. They are supposed to help achieve the best results – otherwise they shouldn’t even be there!

“I have chosen to stretch all the skins myself because it is a vital stage of the entire production process. Here I am able to control the outcome of all the remaining stages and I must say that it is very seldom that I come across errors. It is not about going through a huge number of skins but about getting the best possible quality. Therefore, we must spend the time that it takes in order to achieve it,” says Rasmus Bøgsted.

At Bøgsted Mink the skins are refrigerated for 1,5 hours before they get stretched so that they get a little bit moist. Thanks to this the skins become slightly more flexible, which the stretching machine can make use of.

“The good thing about WRAP MaxiStretch is that we can set it the way we want to. The machine works very precisely and this is why we get very close to what is optimal. The wrap leaves no marks and thanks to that we achieve very satisfactory results,” concludes Rasmus Bøgsted.

WRAP MaxiStretch guarantees the optimal result

The Cleaning Automat cleans the skins, softens them and makes them ready for delivery. The wool and hair are cleaned and get a “lift”.

The remaining sawdust is loosened and removed from the skin. The blowing system then blows air inside the skin so that the leftover sawdust and dust is removed, all in one complete cycle.

With its high capacity and built-in vacuum suction unit, this machine is a real time saver and skin improver. The Skin Cleaning Automat gives the skin the optimal look.

The Skin Cleaning Automat T5 is 20 cm bigger. There are now 2 skin holders instead of 1, which increases the speed.
