Our Plan Paid Parental Leave The Coalition’s Plan to help parents with young children The Coalition will help new mums spend more time with their babies and later continue their careers by offering them a fair dinkum paid parental leave scheme based on their real wage rather than the minimum wage. Our plan will help families get ahead, boost workforce participation and improve productivity. We will: • Provide women with 26 weeks paid parental leave based on their real wage (up to a maximum payment of $75,000). All women who meet the current work test will be better off. For example, women on the average full-time wage will be more than $21,000 better off. • Make superannuation contributions (currently 9 per cent) to women on top of their paid parental leave payment. • Provide flexibility for fathers to take two weeks paid parental leave at their current wage, or the minimum wage, whichever is greater (providing a payment up to a maximum $5,770 for the fortnight). • Increase productivity and lift workforce participation by providing more encouragement for women to stay connected to the workplace.
