Hello my BEE-autiful Narwhals I hope you all had a wonderful Winter

Break! Happy New Year as well! With the end of my term just around the corner, I just want to let you guys know how

proud I am to be serving as your president. With all your enthusiasm and

dedication for service, I am happy to know that you are all committed to give a helping hand to our community. During

the break, some of our members and myself included went to Pasadena to

volunteer for the Rose Floats! It was a very fun experience for all of us as we were able to contribute the beauty of the

parade. I hope that more of you attend next year so you can experience it!

For this upcoming year, we will have more service projects and will continue to volunteer for the Samaritan Center and Still Waters Cafe. Please continue to volunteer as our service never stops!

In addition, within the month of January, we will be holding nominations and elections for the 2015-2016 board. If you are interested in running for a position, PLEASE ATTEND THE MEETINGS!

In order for us to hold the elections, we need 50% of our club to be present. With thy being said, please support your candidates by attending the meetings to see what they have to bring for the next term.

Also, in March 13-15, we will be attending the 69th annual Key Club District Convention at the

Anaheim Convention Center. There we will elect the new District Board and learn more about Key Club while meeting thousands of other Key Clubbers! For those of you attending, I will need a signed permission slip which you can get from Mr. Tauber and a signed code of conduct and

medical release form which are available to print on the CNH website under District Convention.

Good luck with second semester! Surfing in Service,

Lorraine Ador Dionisio

Key Clubbers making Thanksgiving cards.

My second year at Fall Rally was just amazing! I

met so many people from other districts and the

spirit from them is just amazing.

Although I've never met them, I'm just really

glad that I could meet them with such ease and

give them a bit hug!

Fall Rally and Key Club in general has truly

changed my life and I'm truly happy to have this

opportunity. I had a

true Kiwani's Moment!

Jessica Cornel, Member

Past Events

During our Key Club Meeting before Thanksgiving

break, we made finger-painted turkeys on cards

for the senior center. It was really nice and fun to

do a service project at school and during one of

our meetings. I'm hoping we can get together

more as a club in our school meetings more often;

it is a very unique and worthwhile experience. The

cards turned out very nice and the senior loved

them!

I volunteered at the Samaritan Center

with a few fellow Key Clubbers, as well as Kiwanis advisers.

We served food to the less fortunate and made simple conversation in addition to

singing fun songs together as we worked. Overall it was a joyous, eye opening

experience.

Katie Guadagno, Samaritan Center Chair

Remember that you too can also

volunteer at the Samaritan Center on the first Thursday of every month!

Before we went on Winter Break, Key Club threw our winter Social and we had fun

making 40 dog toys for the shelters along with making finger-painted Christmas cards for our local senior center. It was a great way to bring the club together.

This year was my second year working on the Rose Floats and it was just as fun as

last year! The group I was in had the privilege to work with the Trader Joe's

float. We cut flowers, which were then

blended to become dust and, then some of us, if chosen, got to glue that dust to

the tomatoes on the actual float, to give it more texture. It was overall a great

experience, and to see all these people who came from miles away just to be a

part of this nationwide project makes one feel very needed to make all of this

happen.

Pop Tabs

Throughout the year we collect pop

tabs for Ronald McDonald house.

The pop tabs are recycled and the

money is used to help families pay to

stay at the house as well as pay the

utilities and other expenses needed

to keep the house running.

S.O.S. (Save Old

Spectacles) We are continually

collecting glasses for SOS. Keep in

mind, the end of the school year is

ending and if every member brings in

at least 3 pairs of glasses, our

sponsoring Kiwanis of Santa Susana

will throw us a

pizza party!

Canned Food Drive

We are currently running a food drive, asking for donations to help our local Samaritan Center and Stillwater’s Café.

Both canned and/or boxed foods as well as toiletries will be greatly appreciated! Make sure you leave your name on the

items you donate for service hours!

Need for News

A need for news is needed when it comes to you Key Clubbers and all the hard work you do while volunteering!

Do you have a service project you really want to share with the rest of your club? Submit an article (with pictures if

possible), and you will be featured in the next issue of “Narwhal News”!

Email me at: [email protected] Service hours will be distributed!

Weekly Opportunity

Remember that we volunteer at the Stillwater’s Café weekly

on Thursdays! To become a part of this service project, sign

up during the meeting, where you will also be provided with the location and the shift time!

Homework Helpers

Every week I volunteer at the Simi Valley Public Library tutoring

elementary school students thought the library's Homework

Helpers program. Volunteers help the students with multiple

subjects and projects. All the other volunteers are friendly and

students appreciate the extra help. Starting at 3:30 and

ending at 5:30, it's a great way to get volunteering hours!

Kyle Graziano, Member

Rancho Simi

Rancho Simi, in my opinion, is one of the best places to

volunteer at. It’s filled with amazing people who have a passion for their job. Since being there, I've worked on tons

of projects, ranging anywhere from letters to the troops to setting up for street fairs and local dances. It's a fun

environment where I feel as if I'm actually helping and supporting the community through my service. I encourage

everyone to volunteer there if not for the volunteer hours

then because it's a great place to spend time helping others

Hello Narwhals!

I hope your Winter

Break was filled with

holiday fun and great memories were made

with friends and family!

As school resumes, so does Key Club! Your board is working very hard to bring the best service projects we can your way. With that being said, let us know what you

want and aspire to do while in Key Club. Bring your ideas to the table, I promise, we don’t bite.

I would like to reflect back on the Winter Social that was held the day before break.

For those of you that donated food and time to making the recycled dog toys and the Christmas cards to the senior center, I thank you deeply. We made forty of the dog

ropes and they were donated to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. The toys will be distributed to the dogs upon adoption!

2015 is here Narwhals, let us finish off this term with a bang!
