Dear Quilters, Happy New Year 2019! Have you stayed faithful to the resolutions you made for 2019? I know, lose weight, exercise more, eat better, eat less, finish your UFOs, dust the house more often, keep your quilt room tidy, buy less fabric, use up the stash that you have. (Ho, hum, none sounds fun). I am pretty sure that I will not be able to keep any of these resolutions but I will try really hard. The Christmas party was fabulous in spite of the rainy day. I was concerned that many of you would stay home because of the awful weather and then I remembered, most of you came from the snowy north and experienced much worse conditions. Thank you Dannee and committee for changing a gloomy day into a cheerful, festive day. Thank you all for the dishes and desserts. Our January speaker is Robin Koehler. Her business name is Nestlings by Robin. Her pattern, ‘Robin's Wreaths’, was part of the last 3 issues of AQ Magazine with the 4th and last part in the January 2019 issue. You may remember Robin from our last quilt show where she was being mentored by Brenda Grampsas. Robin will be a certified quilt appraiser soon. Besides her presentation at the meeting, she will also hold a workshop entitled, ‘The Swimming Seahorse’. Robin is a piecer, appliquer, redwork quilter, beader and hand quilter. As the new year changes, so does the Guild. We will be pulling the winning ticket for the 2019 quilt at the February meeting. After the liaisons for the 2020 charities tell us what their organizations do for the community, a new charity for the 2020 Opportunity Quilt will be voted on at the January meeting. Voting and installation of the new executive board will be done at the February meeting. You can see that the February meeting will be very busy. Our education chair, Betsy Turner, has lots of classes lined up for you. Please sign up at the education table or give her a call. If you have something that you wish to teach or learn, please discuss it with Betsy. She is always looking for speakers for our meeting. If you have a name for her, let her know. Our goal of 350 Charity Quilts was reached and exceeded! Thank you to all who participated. To those members who want to help next year, remember, we have bins and bins of donated fabric. Come to Shalimar on a Wednesday and find some fabric to make a charity quilt. I was thinking about this while having my coffee this morning. I know that I personally have picked up and delivered to Shalimar at least 6 donations of fabric and notions. There is plenty of fabric that needs to be used. Thank you all for a great 2018 and an even greater 2019. I saw this the other day: I often fantasize about a world where I am in charge, quilting supplies are free, AND quilting makes you skinny. May you always be close to a quilt shop, Pam

Last month was the Christmas Party. The event was attended by 76 signed in members and 2 guests. Rumor has it that a good time was had by all. I had a good time. I think attendance was a little lower than usual because the date was soooo close to Christmas and every one leaving town had left. Not to mention a difficult to negotiate hellacious rain storm. And one person I know just forgot! Every year about this time as I wrap the last package, take the last box to the Post Office, or make the last ”bring a dish to pass”, I remember a book I read many years ago called “The Right Stuff”. It was about the training of the first 7 astronauts. One chapter was devoted to “the list”. In order to have a successful mission the astronaut had to complete everything on his list (experiments and such). The lists got impossibly long because everyone wanted to know what happens to things in space. The astronauts quickly figured out that what they needed was shorter “to do” lists. So they spent a lot of time negotiating shorter lists so they could have successful missions. I bring this up now because we all have “to do” lists for successful holidays. Some things we have to do, some things we want to do and some things we just like to do. But did you ever think about just shortening the list? Try it. It's wonderful. This year I got two whole days of my life back. It seems that some of the baked goods I've been laboring over didn't make anybody's top 4 list. I hope you enjoyed your holiday, Pat Donohoo
Happy New Year! THANK YOU LADIES, you really came through! January food collection goes to:
St. Peter the Apostle Church (Merna Allen)
If you, (the person assigned for any month), will not be at the Guild meeting to receive your food/money collection, please make arrangements to have it picked up or it will go to some other charity. I cannot deliver it. I'm sorry but if it is not picked up by the person assigned or an alternate of their choosing, it will go to the domestic abuse shelter. Please keep up the good work
bringing in the following items:
Metal Can pop tabs from
soda, veggies, beans, etc., for
The Shriners’ Children’s Hospital.
Box Top School Coupons from cake
mixes, cereal boxes, pizza, etc., for
St. James Bishop Larkin’s School.
Small sample bottles of lotion, soap,
shampoo & conditioner, and toothpaste,
like you get at hotels when traveling.
These will help the domestic abuse shelter.
Please tell all your friends about these causes and they may want to help as well. It is greatly appreciated in these trying times. Thanks for your help and all you do.
NOTICE: NO MORE PLASTIC CAPS. The program has been suspended state wide.
Happy Quilting, Donna Herrick, Food Bank

Boutique News Thank you to all those who have contributed
to the 2020 boutique! We still need many
more items turned in to supply the store for
the entire quilt show. If you need patterns or
directions for the projects we have done in
2018, please look on the website or find me
at the next meeting. I will be putting out a
project every month in 2019, so you will have
a variety to choose from. Right now, please
turn in the pin cushions or Christmas
ornaments. The next pattern, Microwavable
bowl covers in sets of two, will be out soon.
If you already know how to make these
bowls, please make a matching set
consisting of one with a 10” square and one
with a 12” square. Thanks for helping out!
Note: 100% cotton only. No poly or cotton
with scrim. Best choice is Wrap and Zap by
Pellon.

Outreach
Charity Sew is held at: Shalimar Mobile Home Village, 6529 Stone Rd. Port Richey FL From 9 am to 3 pm. ALL ARE WELCOMED.
Our Charity Sew event is held once a month,
on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
We do ask that items made on Charity Sew
Wednesday be donated to charity. As a
charity sew group we may work individually
or help each other by sewing in teams, with
piecing, quilting, ironing, cutting, backings,
batting, sandwiching, etc.
As our Wednesday group has grown, we
ask you to please remember to wear
your name badge.
More quilters means more fabric, and
lots of threads and scraps left behind. Please help out by cleaning up your area
before you leave. Assisting in putting
back electrical cords, rulers, mats and
fabric tubs is also appreciated.
THANK YOU. Please feel free to bring a dish to share.
Parking is limited. If you can carpool
with a friend, that would be great!
See page 10 for more details about
the Guild’s other Small Groups!
The 2019 "Heart of the Home"
Opportunity Quilt tickets are still available.
$1 each or $5 for a 6 pack. Please turn in
the money with ticket stubs, to guarantee
you get into the drawing. Tickets will be
available at the monthly meeting or ask a
board member. Money raised will be donat-
ed to SmileFaith, a charitable Veteran's
dental clinic in New Port Richey. There are
many veterans in need of dental care who
cannot afford it.
Only 1 month left to raise funds.
Volunteers are needed to help raise
money by taking the quilt to different
venues such as: when visiting or taking
classes at quilt shops or attending meetings
at other guilds. They don’t have to be quilt
related venues, they could also be clubs you
belong to, banquets, church functions, etc.
Pioneer Days and the Kumquat Festival are
two other venues where the 2019
Opportunity Quilt will be displayed, in order
to raise money. If you know of any other
places the quilt can be displayed, please let
us know.
Sign up at the meeting to take the quilt to
a venue. Contact:
Judy Klingensmith at 919-710-5142 or [email protected] for tickets. Pictures of the quilt will be
available at every Guild meeting.
Drawing will be February 2019.

We need your help. Sales of tickets are
very low. Time is short.
SmileFaith is a very worthy cause.
Please sell tickets!
2018 was an AWESOME year for breaking our goal of 350 quilts for local children in need! We are off to a great start in 2019 with tops already made that just need volunteers to machine quilt them. Join the fun at the Port Richey Piecers group every Wednesday at Shalimar MHV. We welcome anyone that would like to help with charity quilts on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Hope to see you there!
Small Quilt Workshops! As some of you may know, our Small Quilt
Auction is very popular and benefits the New
Port Richey Recreation and Aquatic Center.
We would like to get a head start on this
project and make as many small quilts as we
can, to auction off at our 2020 Quilt Show.
Penny Coleman and Dannee Brooks are going to have some workshops demonstrating some easy techniques to create 4 different small quilts over the next four months. These workshops will be on the second Wednesday of the month, (Jan, Feb, Mar, and Apr). We will do things like panel creations, applique, modern, and paper piecing. We will begin on Jan 9th with panel creations and embellishments, at Shalimar MHV at 1:30pm. Make one for the small quilt auction and one for yourself. Any questions, contact either one of us. See you there. Penny Coleman 727-842-9382 Dannee Brooks 727-207-0478
Reminder:
February’s Board meeting will be held
on January 31st, due to the

Our 2018 Basket Walk was a huge
success! We would like to make the
2020 Basket Walk as successful and fun
as our first one!
There will now be a basket at each of the
Guild meetings ready for any items
you may wish to donate, including empty
baskets. We will accept all sewing and
quilting supplies. We have plans to make
a few non-quilt related baskets for men,
women and children.
Any appropriate items for these types of
baskets will also be appreciated.

The Library was closed in December. In January a Gift of Love will be made to our members from the estate of Joan Phillips. The generous donations from her family will be displayed for members to choose a gift in memory of Joan. We hope that our members enjoy this gift from Joan's library to remember her by. We will repeat this giveaway in February with the remaining items from Joan's library as well as donations from Nita Fox and Ruth Stickel, who we also lost this year. "Here come da Retreat! Here come da Retreat!" It's only weeks away now! Registration has dipped into the waiting list due to unfortunate circumstances and illnesses, however there are some members (mostly roommates) still waiting for spaces that might appear. The Retreat email list was finally compiled and everyone should have received at least one message asking for input on food, class registration, and sewing space needs. You'll also be getting tips on what to expect, what to bring, what NOT to bring, etc. Information packets will be distributed at the January general meeting. They are filled with maps, shop-stops, check in info, daily schedules, mealtimes, emergency contacts, and more.
IF YOU WILL NOT BE AT THE JANUARY GENERAL MEETING, contact Judy Nichols (727-810-9464) or [email protected]) to arrange to pick up your packet at another time or have it given to someone else to give to you.
Questions? Call me at 727-810-9464 or email [email protected] Judy Nichols, Chair
NOTE: PACKETS WILL NOT BE GIVEN TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE REGISTERED MEMBER UNLESS PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE OR PERMISSION IS PROVIDED IN WRITING.

SCRAPS FOR SCRAP BAG SALE
It’s not too early to donate those good quality fabric scraps
for the scrap bag sale. This is a great
fundraiser!
Here’s what we need: Leftover or unused pieces of 100%
cotton quilting fabric. Any size is ok as long as the piece is at
least the equivalent of
3” x 5”. Long strips narrower than three inches
(for example, strips 1 1/2”x 22 or 44”) will, of course, be
useful. Please group same fabric and/or size
pieces together where possible to make the scraps more
usable. Flannel, extra quilt blocks, and other special cotton
scraps you think might
be useful for this project are welcome too.
It would be a great help if you could press and fold your
scraps into rectangles of approximately 3” x 5”, so they will
easily fit into a lunch bag, but loose, clean fabric pieces will
be welcome too. This is a great chance to do a little spring
cleaning, organize your quilting space, and make room for
new
projects!
Please bring your donations to the Guild meeting and look for
the scrap bag donation box. There will also be a scrap box at
Charity sew. They will be greatly
appreciated.

Several members have requested that we refrain from using perfume when we are in confined spaces, such as
Contractors, workshops, and small groups. Unfortunately, as we all get older, health conditions are not
conducive to perfumes and can cause breathing problems, migraines, etc., so please keep that in mind.
Thank you.
