Hello from Pattie

Dear HCE members,

First off, let me congratulate all of our honored members

during this year’s WAHCE Annual Conference,

“CELEBRATE THE MANY FACETS OF HCE”. You

represent Dodge County well and make us all proud. I

appreciate and value your service and commitment to

Dodge County HCE.

This year’s National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences

2015 Annual Session: Tradition to Guide, Knowledge to Share, and Innovation to Succeed, provided the

Wisconsin affiliates an opportunity to learn about educational programs, recognize and honor award

winners, learn from nationally recognized keynote speakers, and network with others.

I attended keynote presentations, concurrent sessions, and the showcase of excellence to learn how

colleagues across the nation support childcare quality and best practices, provide parenting education,

and use technology and digital media as a platform for reaching audiences. I learned about a grant-funded

program called “Healthy Homes for Childcare Providers”. These workshops, designed to instruct

childcare workers about proper procedures to reduce environmental health hazards, are open to in-home

as well as center providers. After attending the workshop, I understand that providing children with a safe

environment does not have to be a complicated process. Small steps and simple changes can provide

children with a safe atmosphere. “The main objective of Healthy Homes for Childcare Providers

Workshop is to provide education and information to parents and child care providers on ways to reduce

environmental hazards and make the indoor environment better,” said Keishon Thomas, housing

specialist for FVSU’s Cooperative Extension Program. As many of you know, I work very closely with

childcare professionals in Dodge County. Additionally, during the conference my eParenting® workgroup

received a National Award for addressing emerging needs in our communities. It was a wonderful

professional development opportunity and I had a little fun as well!

I would also like to extend the warmest of Christmas wishes to each one of you and all of your loved

ones. What a glorious time of year. Take the time to enjoy the spirit of the season.

Have an extra cookie, sip of eggnog, and stay up too late catching up with old

friends.

Blessings for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and productive New Year!

Pattie Carroll

Klub Korner

Emerald Clovers Emerald Clovers helped with the “All Things Delicious IV” held at the Juneau

Community Center, co-sponsored by Chef Chanse of the Community Center and WBEV Radio

Station Emerald Clovers, along with the Dodge County Dairy Promotion Committee provided the dessert and

Emerald Clovers members made the dessert “Pistachio Delight” for the evening. At our October Meeting,

Laurie Howlett was our guest speaker on Essential Oils. In September, we had a community service work

night. Dodge County HCE held a day trip experience to Door County with 37 individuals participating and

this was organized by Emerald Clovers. The club worked with the Juneau Library Readathon in October.

Socialettes

September

Two members had cultural arts items that went to State. Jean attended State Conference in Stevens Point and

presented an informative report to us. Judy and Shirley report on the program planning meeting. Two

members baked for Old Time Gathering. Members again sold tickets for home volleyball games at the high

school. Judy and Anita will attend the International Study of Sweden and plan a meal for our club

meeting. Rock River Center is in charge of food for Achievement Night and Kris is planning that with the

other clubs in our Center. Our Club nominated Diane Koch as Member of the Year.

October

Pattie Carroll was invited to our meeting and she gave us ideas and tips to begin Book Worms; we will be

reading to 4 year old students at John Hustis School. A basket from our Club was donated for a fund raiser for

a person having a lot of health issues, a bike was donated for the Bike Rodeo, and we made a donation to

Pennies for Friendship. An interesting report was given on the Horicon Marsh. We finalized plans for

Achievement Night on November 4. Kris did fingerprinting again at John Hustis and Bethany Schools. Dues

of $14 need to be paid by next meeting. Reminders were given on the upcoming craft night on November 18

and HCE Christmas party on December 9. Remember to bring cards for Military Mail Call to our next

meeting. Our November meeting will be our Sweden dinner and discussion on the information of the country.

November

Our main event was our International dinner of Sweden at the home of Anita, who shared information and

items she has; we all enjoyed the meal of Swedish foods. We took a quiz on our knowledge of the country

before our learning session of it. A report on Achievement Night was given that the amount of food was good

and the evening went well. Members volunteered for selling tickets at home basketball games. Reminder was

given for the HCE Christmas party on December 9.

Mother Hubbards October

Mother Hubbards took to the road to visit Black Point near Lake Geneva. It was built in 1888 as a summer

home by Conrad Seipp, a Chicago beer tycoon. The home was used by the family until September 2005, when

the property was donated to the State of Wisconsin. The home is now a Wisconsin Historical Site.

Three members attended the county meeting on October 8. Desserts will be donated for Achievement Night;

members were reminded to get their donation for our basket to Linda and also turn in your ticket money, if not

already done. LaVerne and Margaret will attend the International project meeting.

There were no other HCE Center submissions with club minutes for this newsletter edition.
