January / February 2019 Happy New Year! What better way to get over January blues than with these amazing upcoming releases from some of our very favourites? For other titles go to our website http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/new-releases.php or come and see us in-store. Maya de Vitry – Adaptations There's a lot of freedom to be found in solitude. On her own, an artist is free to express her voice authentically and without reservation, can make art that reflects who she is at her core. But going it alone can be daunting sometimes, particularly after years spent collaborating with others. For Maya de Vitry, striking out on her own to write her debut album Adaptations was a metamorphic experience marked by liberation, exploration and deep personal growth. A member of the acclaimed string band The Stray Birds, de Vitry had long wanted to release music under her own name, but, as she explains it, had to summon both the "patience" and the "determination" to put her music out into the world. Available to pre-order now - £12.99 Jess Klein – Back to my Green The New York Times calls Jess Klein “A songwriter with a voice of unblinking tenacity.” Over two decades and 11 albums, Klein has built a powerfully personal body of work that reflects an instinctive emotional insight, an organic sense of introspection and an unshakable social conscience. Her newest release, Back to My Green explores what it means to maintain hopefulness in America in 2019. It also reflects a bevy of changes in Klein’s personal life, including a new marriage to fellow songwriter Mike June and a cross-country move from the “Live Music Capital” of Austin, TX to rural North Carolina. Back to My Green is a deeply felt set of original tunes that embodies the same intensity that made Klein’s prior releases so powerful, while adding a playful sensibility that reflects the inspiration of her new surroundings. Such new compositions as "In Dreams," "Tougher Than I Seem" and "Mammal" pulse with 60’s era MoTown grooves and Atlantic records-style orchestration while "Blair Mountain" and "New Thanksgiving Feast" (a tribute to Native American pipeline protestors) reflect Klein’s folk- rock roots. Co-produced by Klein and North Carolina native Mark Simonsen (The Old Ceremony, Weems/Gerrard Band, film scores: Elephant Sighs, Radiation Veterans and Rareified) and Engineer Thom Canova (Amy Ray, 4 Non-Blondes, Oranj Symphonette), these ten new tracks resonate with feeling, painting a dynamic backdrop for Klein’s singular mezzo-soprano and incisive lyrics. Available to pre-order now - £12.99 Martyn Joseph – Here Come the Young Acclaimed singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph says of his new album, "The songs are exploring uncertainty to varying degrees through different subject matter both in the personal and political. I hope for those who listen it will be the sort of record that takes you on a journey and leaves you buoyed and hopeful at the end, despite the fact that we go to a few tough places." On Here Come The Young, his songs are imbued with an optimism at a time when it is not easily found. Running throughout the album is a sense of hope and belief in the good of the majority, and that this will overcome the loud, cynical noise that pervades. For Joseph, songs are photographs of moments and visions be they good or bad, his lyrics encourage people to fight fear, cynicism and negativity and the rhetoric of those who hold power. Available to pre-order now - £11.99 Sarah MacDougall – All the Hours I Have Left to Tell You Anything ‘All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything’ is a record about strength, identity, death, the breakdown of relationships, birth, and the ghosts we honour and carry throughout. It is my fourth record. It was written in the midst of the death of my grandparents, the birth of my niece, and a break up. The nine songs are also influenced by the places that made me and changed me: the dark beauty of Scandinavia the vastness of the Yukon . ‘All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything’ was produced, recorded and mixed by Montreal-based Marcus Paquin (Stars, The Barr Brothers, Timbre Timbre, Arcade Fire, The National), with additional production and recording by Rich Jaques (Lisa Loeb), Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run), and Bill Lefler (Royal Wood). Available to pre-order now - £11.99
