  • As you know, the staff, students and entire Fairview family lost our beloved media specialist,

Mrs. Alison Mathews, on December 15, 2015. Mrs. Mathews had worked at Fairview since the 2005-2006 school year. She had a strong work ethic and absolutely loved working with and teaching our

students. Mrs. Mathews struggled with many health concerns during her adult life. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 14 years old. She took a medical leave from her media position during the 2007-2008 school year and underwent a double lung transplant. She never complained about her critical health issues or allowed those to interfere with her love for teaching. Mrs. Mathews was the

face of our media center and she will continue to be missed for years to come.

Mrs. Mathews was married to Michael Mathews and they resided in Monroe. He is a musician and travels frequently. They both are from Columbus, Ohio and a memorial for Alison was held in their

hometown on January 23, 2016. The school is planning to dedicate a memorial in her honor very soon. We will notify each of you once we have the details finalized. On behalf of the Fairview staff, I would like to thank you each of you for your calls, email messages, text messages and prayers for our Fairview

family during the difficult time. Mrs. Mathews faith-based beliefs were extremely strong and she truly loved all of your children.

    Sincerely, Kelly Thomas

  • Staff Spotlight for January/February

Mrs. Jenkins 4th GradeHometown: Williamstown, WV

How many years at Fairview: 15

    Favorite restaurant: Carrabbas Italian Grill

Favorite thing to do outside of school: Go shopping!

City you want to visit the most: Calabria, Italy (Where my grandmother is from)

Name of your 4th grade teacher: Mr. Schramn (This was my favorite year of school)

Where did you go to college? West Virginia University and Wingate University

Most rewarding part of being a teacher: I love seeing my students smile! When they smile, I know they are happy and feel loved. Each day when I watch my students make choices that show they are learning and growing in some way, it makes me proud and excited! I love what I do and am excited to be a part of my students growing process!

Why did you become a teacher? I knew at a young age that I loved working with and helping children. From babysitting neighborhood children, to working with my cousins and other little ones, I truly loved it! Also, about every member of my family is involved in education, too, so I was influenced by their desire to teach and inspire.

Favorite sport/team to watch on TV: Football Carolina Panthers and West Virginia Mountaineers

Silliest fact about you: I like to break out in song and dance in random moments. My children think I am crazy!
