Pondlife P5-7 / 9+ years Catherine Wheels Children’s Theatre

Website http://www.catherinewheels.co.uk

Moving school is never easy. When class bully Sharon takes an instant dislike to Martin it feels like he has an especially tough ride ahead of him. That is until he befriends Simon McGurk and his fortunes seem to change. The fickle world of playground politics soon puts pressure on their friendship, however, and Martin finds himself making a

choice that will impact them both for the rest of their school days. Following successes in Australia and New York, Catherine Wheels restage this energetic piece of storytelling for Scottish schools. A passionate one-man show that vividly illustrates the high stakes of classroom power play, Pondlife movingly explores the lasting legacy of childhood friendships. Part of Theatre in Schools Scotland, a National Theatre of Scotland and Imaginate project.

As they build their tower of civilisation it seems that nothing they plan is impossible to them. But frictions emerge, the tower is destroyed, their languages are confounded and the people scattered abroad upon the face of the earth. But how to leave without abandoning everything precious. “A little miracle of a show, funny, nostalgic,

smart, touching, even poetic and magical at times.” Confusion of Tongues is a light hearted response to Brexit created by young people. Without words, but with plenty of circus, the show lasts c.45 minutes and can be performed inside or out. “The cast create symbols through brilliant juggling and clowning in a melancholic reflection about Europe's future.”

The Unwanted 16+ Shaper/Caper Dance Comedy

Website https://www.shapercaper.com

The Unwanted is a comedy dance theatre show, ideal for bars, studios and most non-theatre spaces. Narrator Thomas - a kind of Michael Aspel for an all-dancing ‘This-Is-(Almost)Your-Life’ – starts by sharing his letters of rejection. Miranda, armed with a multitude of cheap props, will bring the tale to life physically (and might need a few pals from the audience to help her, especially for the ‘big’ numbers).

Destruction and chaos ensue as things fall apart…failing props and costumes are held together with duct tape, while the pair do everything they can just keep going on with life and the show.

Says choreographer/director/narrator Thomas Small: “Over the past 15 years, there has been one constant in my life…and that constant is the steady, stifling stream of rejection. Dates broken, relationships soured, jobs ended and more importantly - dance pieces that never got made!

With comedy songs specially written by Mark Franks of The Overtones, and with lots of audience dancing and karaoke, this comedy dance theatre show is for all kinds of spaces, and with minimal tech.

Land of Lounge Room, a recovering mature-age mum is desperate to soothe her baby, but determined to tell you a tale about her own family and the many sisters within it from her sleep deprived state. Unable to reach her sister Ophelia, who wrestles sometimes with a cataract on what Shakespeare calls the mind’s eye, she stitches together a pillow-book of tales told through poetry and performance.Though This Be Madness weaves a warm and quirky urgency with stories that explore the experience of loved ones wrestling pyschosis and personality disorder, told through the fractured form of a parent's focus, using poetry set to musical composition, monologue and physical theatre.

Dracula....The Travesty 13+ Northumberland Theatre Company Theatre

Website http://www.northumberlandtheatre.co.uk

Dracula..... The Travesty’: Devised and created by NTC actor and writer, Stewart Howson, from the novel by Bram Stoker. Light, funny and daft but with strong storytelling and some genuinely scary moments

this is Gothic storytelling at its

best: imaginative, atmospheric and physically exciting. Appealing to family audiences it features all the anticipated elements of the story: wolves, bats and the Brides of Dracula with plenty of audience participation, humour and music. “A brilliant evening, we came and my 13 year old son had done gothic lit last term at school. He LOVED it! Thank you so much.” “The play was fabulous and mesmerising- not what some had expected as it told; nay, disembowelled Bram Stoker’s story in a way that sent shivers down the spine and water from the bladder (for some of a weaker disposition) as we alternatively laughed and covered our faces in horror rapidly in succession. I cannot commend the Northumberland Theatre Company highly enough for bringing us yet again such an entertaining experience.” Whitburn Village Hall

My Name is Irrelevant Universal 12+ Matthew Leonard Spoken Word, Live Music

Website http://www.tortoiseinanutshell.com

Get caught in the web of another mind. Forget who you are, become someone else. In a world created by your imagination it can be difficult to work out what is fiction and what is reality.

My Name is Irrelevant is a subtle and moving piece of new writing, blending spoken word with a live, original soundtrack. A poignant and intimate production, My Name is Irrelevant layers humour and pathos in the exploration of an intensely personal story of loneliness and isolation. Follow Matthew's story as he discusses all of the people he has ever met with the assistance of a 35mm slide projector and VHS player. A self-contained, lo-fi design creates a close and personal setting, with a rich and evocative sound score provided by Composer/Musician Jim Harbourne. My Name is Irrelevant was originally created from a three minute spoken word piece on the theme of isolation in a busy world, before premiering at 2017's Edinburgh Festival Fringe to audience and critical acclaim. Written and performed by Matthew Hall, with music composed and played by Jim Harbourne, My Name is Irrelevant is an evocative and personal piece that aims to inspire and incite in equal measure.

A local boat has gone out in a storm to assist another vessel. As night wears on and the storm rages, those left behind start to share stories and memories, myths and legends of shipwrecks, smuggling and survival. Tempers will flare and solace will be sought as we explore the highs and lows of a life lived by the sea. The play

will also feature acoustic music and song.

Peril at Sea is a play for those who are intrigued by the call of the sea and are awed by the power of nature. Up The Road are based on the Kent coast and we're creating this production to further explore our relationship with the sea, as individuals, communities and as an island nation. We're gathering research from across the country to inspire the creation of our production - seeking common themes, unique characters and breath-taking events that have occured in our seafaring past.

With Bonnie Fechters, performer Morna Burdon takes the audience on a journey of celebration and inspiration as she weaves a tapestry of songs and stories shedding light on remarkable women whose quiet courage and remarkable achievements have often remained hidden and unsung.

Says Burdon, who also devised and directed, “The show tells the stories of these women whose courage, love, inventiveness and human spirit have stood up to injustice and oppression over continents & centuries. I particularly love when audience members tell me of people in their families or communities – or just that they know of – whose stories have also changed peoples’ lives. People are

brave, and this show celebrates that”

Website http://wiredtheplay.simplesite.com

WIRED is the story of a young woman soldier’s journey through post-traumatic stress. Told through the lives of three woman; Joanna, the young soldier, her mother and an older soldier who represents the many voices of the military. It is a story about the people behind the uniform. Following training, Joanna is deployed to Afghanistan and believes she is prepared

for what lies ahead. What she is not prepared for is a visit from her past. As the realities of war close in around her, Joanna struggles to make sense of the voices, memories and flashbacks that wage war inside her head. 'A powerful experience...its a play that leaves you in a state of hopeful

concern, shaken, outraged and yet still somehow humbled' ★★★★★ British Theatre Guide ‘A compelling account of PTSD where the character shares centre stage with the issue, rather than simply being the vehicle through which it’s

represented.’ ★★★★★ TheReviewsHub

Heroes is a new show from All or Nothing and Room 2 Manoeuvre.

It takes a look at who our idols are. The cult of celebrity and the fall from grace, the hidden heroes, superheroes and who do we really, actually look up to?

A light-hearted family show, Heroes mixes aerial skills with dance theatre and contemporary circus. Asking universal

questions with humour, straight talking and lots of moving, we follow the journey of the two performers as they navigate their way through the world of idolising and being idolised.

Building on the success of their last piece, Sprawl, Tony Mills of Room 2 Manoeuvre and Jennifer Paterson of All or Nothing form a creative partnership again, adding performer Beverley Grant into the mix.

The work is played around a freestanding aerial rig and does not need overhead rigging. We need a height of 4.8m for the rig, but that can fit between roof trusses - please discuss with us if you are not sure if it will fit your venue.

Matthew Zajac’s multi-award-winning The Tailor of Inverness is a story of journeys, of how a boy who grew up on a farm in Galicia (Eastern Poland, now Western Ukraine) came to be a tailor in Inverness.

His life spanned most of the 20th century. His story is not straightforward.

He was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1939 and forced to work east of the Urals, then freed in an amnesty after the German

invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. He then joined the thousands of Poles who travelled to Tehran, then Egypt, to be integrated into the British Army, fighting in North Africa and Italy. He was then resettled in Britain in 1948, joining his brother in Glasgow. This is the story he told.

A moving and popular theatrical performance based on a book of short stories by Lorna Moon. A highly amusing and poignant tale that economically captures, fillets and skewers small town life in rural Scotland in the 1920s, an era when twitching curtains and gossip was a perfectly acceptable way of life to many people in the town. Originally presented in a sell-out tour in 2011 produced by Mike Gibb, Doorways in Drumorty is witty and vivid production. This project will invest further in set, costume and technical design to showcase the lively

script and talents of the cast. As well as providing an excellent evening's entertainment, the production also brings the writing of Lorna Moon to new audiences. Seven stories are woven together, with three cast playing a dozen members of a close knit community.

A light-hearted musical romp of starvation, scurvy and cannibalism ... with some jolly tunes

Unspotted Snow is a “ripping yarn” - a bold and adventurous tale of tragedy, mishap, folly, arrogance, madness and betrayal, Victorian heroism … and ruthless news management. Come and be enthralled by the ambition and derring-do of the explorers and by their terrifying, grisly fate.

In 1845, Sir John Franklin and 159 men sailed off in search of the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific by way of the North coast of Canada. They vanished…

Now, come along with Mull Theatre to explore and discover the hazy, crazy halftruths, rumours and scandals which besmirched the unspotted snow of the great white north!

The Dark Carnival: Unplugged is a delightfully ghoulish and high-spirited new show - an evening of anarchic song and raucous rhyme that tells the story of newcomers to the afterlife who discover that death is not actually the end! Incredulous at their continuity, they form their own necropolitan community where every night is party night.

But something is afoot. A mysterious event has thrown the lives of the dead into uncertainty. When news reaches the cemetery, an underground revolution begins, led by the stoical Mrs Mark and her band of necropolitans.

Performed by A New International front man Biff Smith and one actor, this is a lively, fun show that will make a great night out!

Dave is sat at the bar, turning 30 next week.

Eurydice is a mythical tree nymph, a naiad. And Bruce Springsteen is on the stereo.

Created by Alexander Wright (The Flanagan Collective) and

Phil Grainger (Gobbledigook), ORPHEUS is a critically acclaimed, internationally award winning show wound together from hair raising spoken word and soaring soul music. It’s a modern retelling of the ancient myth, transporting us through dive bars, back streets and late night karaoke. It’s a show about falling in love, about seismic shifts in your everyday life, and about how far we’d want to go to save those we hold so near and dear. It’s a 5,000 year old story but told for us, here, now. Performed by a storyteller and a musician, the tale is wound together from a guitar and a book, and the audience.

ORPHEUS won Best Theatre (weekly) award at the Adelaide Fringe and the Summerhall Award at VAULT Festival. The show will be touring nationally and internationally across 2019.

Oysters 14+ Oyster Creatives Theatre

Website https://www.oystercreatives.co.uk Video Vimeo

OYSTERS is a dark comedy shining a powerful spotlight on composer Johannes Brahms - at the party celebrating the first performance of his Violin Concerto. While observing his wit, his genius, his cruelty, his tenderness and his descent into self destructive inebriation, treating friends and associates with all the tenderness of a wrecking ball, we are propelled into a seething cauldron of passionate recriminations and hilarious outcomes. Following his search for

perfection in music, we meet a mesmerizing gallery of characters - the arthritic, embittered and ageing Clara Schumann from his past, mad, jealous unstable virtuoso Joachim, pompous and waspish critic Hanslick and gentle friend and disciple Von Herzogenberg. As the evening progresses and emotions turn on a sixpence the play moves to its extraordinary conclusion fuelled by turbulent emotion and farcical misunderstandings . And laughing through our tears we are continually challenged with the questions: Why Art? What price do we pay for it? Why do we need it? This is a 3 hander with a live musician.
