REMEMBER THAT JANUARY IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY CHILDHOOD OF JESUS!

THE PASTOR’S HIP The heading of this notice is ambiguous: it can either mean that your pastor is “hip”, or it can mean some-thing in reference to his anatomical joint where the femur and pelvis connect. Although the former is certainly true, at this time I’m writing about the latter. Alas, my poor hip, after 63.5 years of mostly faithful service has deteriorated to the point where something needs to be done about it. In this case, that means a total replace-ment. It seems that I possess the body type that conduces to the separation of the epiphysis (i.e., the growth plate) from the femur. This occurred in my right hip when I was 13, which, although it was repaired at that time, led ultimately to its being replaced nine years ago. The process, apparently, started to happen to my left hip, but was arrested before I noticed any deformation. Well, the deformation had taken place; not enough to cause immediate trouble but sufficient to affect uneven wear in that joint for the next 50 years, to the point where it is now rather painful and can only get worse.

I decided that now is the time to do something about it, so I’m going in for surgery on the 19th of this month. This will cause some disruption of our Mass schedule; the archdiocese will find priests to cover the Sunday Masses, but the weekdays might be a different story; we’ll have Mass as often as possible, but Deacon Kroutil will probably have to conduct a Communion Service every now and then. I hope that I won’t be down for more than three weeks or so; that part I’ll just have to play by ear. So I ask your prayers and understanding as I brace myself for the final 12 years of my service to St. Angela’s!

OUR BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS Every parish church, of course, decorates for Christmas. Ours, on the other hand, adorns, embellishes, beautifies, garnishes, ornaments, and bedecks for Christmas! The beauty of our church decorations is self-evident and is verified by the comments of all our parishioners and the visitors who came to Mass here the past couple of weeks. The real tribute, however, comes from the many people who whipped out their cell phones to take pictures of the decorations, and even more so by the many who brought actual cameras from home and had themselves photographed in front of the decorations!

This is all thanks to that master decorator, Don Krause, and his cast of merry apprentice adorners, notably Paul Krause (who also, with Zack Fletcher, strung the lights in the trees along the soccer field), Matt Adams and Dobbs’s of various stripes, who, if they haven’t become Doctors of Décor yet, certainly will soon! I meant to acknowledge them sooner, but the people who print our bulletin gave us a deadline for last week’s bulletin which meant that I had to write my column before they actually did the work. (Based on past experience, how-ever, I should have just written effusive praise, anyway, with the certain knowledge that they would come through!) I apologize to anybody who helped whose name I neglected to mention; God knows who you are and is magnificently praised by your great service of Him this Christmas!

Happy New Year!! It is the beginning of anoth-er great year! It can be raining, sleeting, foggy, snowing or hot! You can open the doors to our school and all is great! The students are cheer-ful, giving their best, teachers are challenging their students and all is well! We are in the wonderful world of St. Angela Merici Catholic School.

We have a new beginning! It is great to have the opportunity to start anew! The students start with clean slates. If they have not given their best, they can start now. If they have giv-en their best, they can continue!!

It is great to see some of our graduates at Mass on weekends, you see them as Kindergartners and then wow, they are adults and successful!!

Our students and our children are the greatest asset we have. We try to give our children the best education to aid them in their fu-tures. We pray each day that all these children are successful and most importantly they stay connected to God!

Gratitude fills our hearts! Many thanks for your generous contribution to our teachers' Christmas Fund! All of you are the greatest and we are very fortunate to be part of this great community!! All of you are always in our prayers!!
