As we begin a New Year, we bring
back a Mainlander “tradition” – a
profile of one of our many
residents who help this community
thrive.
This month we are featuring our
newest Board Director, Hyacinth
Henry. Hyacinth, who was born in
Jamaica, migrated to Toronto,
Canada in 1970 and received an
Associate’s degree in Computer
Programming from Brown College.
Deciding to get out of the cold, she came to the United States in the 80’s.
In her professional career she has done everything from running her own restaurant,
featuring Jamaican food, to being a 911 dispatcher for the Broward County Sheriff’s
Office for 20 years.
Hyacinth has been a Mainlands resident since 2016. She retired from her dispatcher
duties in 2019 and is now more able to get involved in activities. Her hobbies include
taking cruises, walking (all over the community, she walks approximately 5 miles
daily, ) reading and talking. She loves to talk to everyone she meets, expressing and
sharing ideas (on everything except politics and religion).
Smart woman!!! Hyacinth has two daughters, 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and
2 grand fur babies.

The month of November and
December found us hosting
the Broward Pops Orchestra
as they rehearsed for their
upcoming holiday concerts.
We were honored to be
invited to the "dress
rehearsal" performance on
November 30th and then
again on December 14th.
Two members of the orchestra, Beverly
Daw and Linc Lackey, are residents of
Mainlands 1 and 2 and we are proud to
have such talent living amongst us.
Peter Fuchs is the Conductor of The
Broward Pops Orchestra and the two
soloists are Alicia Branch and William
Stafford.
The Holiday Food Drive was able to
provide 32 bags of groceries due to
the generosity of Mainlands 1 and 2
residents. At one time or another we
all are in need of a helping hand so
many thanks go to those who
donated to the drive and made the
holidays happier for others.
