Pastor Bob Update………
Pastor Coughlin’s hip replacement surgery has been changed to

and would not have been able to perform surgery until late
February!
Please keep Dianne and Bob in your prayers.

Happy New Year, everyone! Hard to believe that 2016 has given way to 2017- already! New hopes, aspirations and even resolutions come to mind as we turn our calendars forward. Like every year, 2016 had its share of blessings and its share of banes. Life is like that, on earth anyway. There is no way for us to know what 2017 will bring. Only our omniscient God knows that. And likely it wouldn’t help us at all even if we did know what is ahead for us! What is of immense help is knowing that only God can bring us what we truly need to live the abundant life that our Lord Jesus Christ promised to us, in times of blessings and in times of banes. One of my “go-to” verses is Lamentations 3:22-23, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.” Steadfast love, endless mercies, great faithfulness. The prophet Jeremiah reminds us that the Lord God brings these to us everyday. It does not matter whether our day is a diamond or a stone. And talk about a stone! Somehow, even as the Jews sacred city, Jerusalem fell in horrible fashion to the Babylonian armies, Jeremiah was still able to speak of God’s love, mercy, and faithfulness. Israel’s faithlessness to God had brought about their suffering but God’s faithfulness to them in their suffering was steadfast just as surely as was His love and mercy. With that in mind Jeremiah writes in the next verse, “The Lord is my portion”, says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lam. 3:24. Our Christian hope is both from the Lord and in the Lord. Our hope is not like the hope the world offers us. It is not wishful thinking. It is actually a declaration of certainty- the certainty that our Triune God is forever faithful, loving and merciful. Great is Thy Faithfulness, one of my favorite hymns has this to say, “Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness mercy and love, (v.2) My prayer for all of us in the Peace Lutheran Church family is that God’s faithfulness mercy and love would be made manifest in each and every one of us in every season of 2017. Love in Christ,
Pastor Jeff

Pastor Bob’s page……..
Dear Family at Peace,
Didn’t we have a wonderful Christmas celebration? The gathering of church members, families, friends, and
community folk is what make our Christmas worship special to me.
Thanks to all who helped make it a memorable time of year: the soup and bread that warmed us every Wednesday
night, vespers that helped us focus on the gifts of Christmas, musicians and singers that uplifted our spirits, those
who helped decorate the sanctuary and assisted with our special worship services.
Christmas is truly a community event around here!
We are now settling into the New Year. It is a time for us to give thanks as we recount the many blessings from
the past year. It is also a time for us to look forward, in hope, to what God has in store for us in the coming year.
As we look back on the year, there are several signs that we have been blessed with a healthy, vibrant church.
New members have joined and gotten involved. Community services have been added through our increased
involvement with the Gallatin Valley Food Bank and the Love INC Clothes Closet. Christian Education remains
strong through Sunday School, Adult Forum, Confirmation instruction, the redesigned library and RightNow
Media that has brought us some terrific resources. The Youth Mission trip to Denver gave our kids a taste of
serving in the city. Partnerships with ministries around the world keeps us involved in the world-wide mission of
Christ. And, our financial support has remained strong!
This is a great foundation from which to look ahead at the coming year. What things can we strengthen? What
needs in our community have been overlooked? What areas do we need to grow and develop?
Good questions for us to consider. I hope that they stimulate some thought as we had toward the annual meeting at
the end of January.
Thank you for your support that keeps our church-family moving ahead. Let us all look at where we are as a
starting point to where God wants to go in the future.
Gratefully,
Pr. Bob

PEACE YOUTH NEWS!
I hope you had a wonderful and restful Christmas and New Year's Break!! With some of the great sermons and
lessons we received from Pr. Jeff & Pr. Bob during Advent & Sunday Services, it was easy to remember the true
reason for the season!!
Thank You to all who helped prepare, serve and clean up from our Christmas Breakfast!! And Thank You to all who
ate and enjoyed and donated to the youth!! A net proceed of $535.00 was earned, and that was given in full to the
HRDC's Warming Center in Bozeman. They were so happy and amazed with such a great and unexpected gift. What
a blessing to our community right here in the Gallatin Valley!!!!
We have just a couple of activities planned this month.
**January 20th, 2017 - 7:00 - 9:00pm CD Celebration Concert with Jackie Currey
Jackie Currey and one of her talented musician friends have made a CD!! They will be debuting many of the songs
from that CD on Friday night, January 20th, at 7:00pm, at Peace Lutheran Church. All are invited. Jackie has chosen
to donate all proceeds from the sales of the CD that night, to the Youth Group!!! In very small return, the youth
group will provide light snacks for the intermission during the show. I need 3-4 kids to each bring 12-
24 snack items that night. Cookies, sweets, cheese/crackers, fruit, veggies, and drinks. Please let me know
if you can help. Let's all attend this concert and support our amazing friend, Jackie. She is a true blessing to all of us
at Peace!!
**January 29th, 2017 - 9:00am - PEACE YOUTH ARE USHERS/GREETERS/READERS for Church
This is the 5th Sunday, so that means Peace Teens are doing the Family Ministry Job. You will greet people as they
arrive, hand out bulletins, do the readings, usher for offering and communion. You will NOT HAVE TO WORRY
ABOUT TREATS. It is the annual meeting after the service, and the council provides lunch for everyone.
I need 3-4 Youth for this day
**January 29th, 2017 - 9:00am - Benevolence Series - Continuation!! I need 1 youth to volunteer to do a short (3-5
minute) presentation on one of our Benevolence Partners. This is not a difficult thing, it might take you 30-60
minutes to prepare. Will someone volunteer? You can pick which Benevolence Partner you want to talk
about (ROC Wheels, Family Promise, Intervarsity, Habitat for Humanity, Gallatin Valley Food Bank). I will help
you with the basics about benevolence, the specific partner you select, and set you up with someone who works
closely with that partner.
Thanks all! Stay warm and have a great start to your new year!!!
Blessings, Val & Amy
