Club President’s Message

Happy New Year to members, Anns and your family.

January saw a Revival in Rotary events. We had a very interesting meeting in the first week of January followed by the DISCON. In the second week we had RYLA at the Smart Eco Park, for underprivileged children. Thanks to director Kaushik for organising this very informative and educational one day event.

We also had a fellowship program of the night cricket match at Khar Gymkhana. where members, Anns, and youngster’s participated in large numbers. Thanks to director Nimesh for organising the event.We had our Pre OCV where are AG Jay Toshniwal evaluated our work in the first 7 months, for the various programs, projects, documents and financial records.

The month ended with a fireside at Saurabh Sonawala’s residence,attended by about 20 members and Ann’s. Thanks to Saurabh for hosting the event.

She is a M.Sc. Biochemistry (Haffkeine Institute Mumbai University) and has B.Sc. Honours: Zoology & Biochemistry (St Xavier’s College). Currently doing a Certified Course in counseling from “Heart to Heart Institute of Counseling”. Her husband, Ashish, is Chairman & CEO South Asia with Dentsu Aegis Network. They have two kids, Abhinay who is also working with Dentsu Aegis and Abhilasha who is studying in Cathedral & John Connon School.

Rtn Pinky JoganiIntroduced By Rtn Girish Jain

She has done her B. Com and ECC Course. She is Director of Jogani Group of Companies. Her hobbies are badminton, music and dancing. Her husband, Jitesh, is the Managing Director of Jogani Group of Companies. They have two sons Krish and Rohit. Both are studying in Cathedral & John Connon School.

Rtn Methoo SurtyIntroduced By Rtn Riaz Nagree

She has been an Executive Secretary with our Club since last four years and is passionate about Rotary. She is a Xavierite and has a Masters Degree in Economics. She is working as an Executive Secretary to the Chairman of Kanoria Group of Companies. Her husband, Keki, is in Cifco Ltd. Their son Karl is a final year MBA student from Welingkar Institute of Management.

Rtn Mansur KhanIntroduced By Ipp Rtn Dr Cyres Mehta

He is the Managing Director of Vigilante Service Pvt Ltd. His hobbies are traveling and kick boxing. His wife, Anuradha, is Director in Vigilante and is also involved in interior designing. They are blessed with one son, Kabir, who is schooling in Cathedral & John Connon School.

Rtn Sanjay BathijaIntroduced By Ipp Rtn Dr Cyres Mehta

He is a B.Sc. in Physics and Electronic Instrumentation. He is a proprietor in Optimus Marketing. He is a Past Member of RC of Mumbai South. His wife, Anita, is an Interior Designer and Proprietor of Anita Bathija & Associates.

Programmes:

On Friday, 6th January, Mr Zaheer Khan, Chairman of EIPR Group of Companies which specializes in the field of Risk Mitigation addressed the Club on “Fake Products in Everyday Life” at the M.C. Ghia Hall.

EIPR has pioneered the current intellectual property protection in the country and is Asia’s largest investigation agency servicing brand owners across Asian countries averaging out more than 800 raids a year.

On that day, the Club inducted Rtn Mansur Khan as a Member. He was loaned the classification “Security Services”.

Pre-OCV was conducted by AG Rtn Jay Toshniwal on Friday, 20th January 2017 at the M.C. Ghia Hall

On Friday, 27th January 2017 Captain Arun Karkare addressed the Club on “Ninety Percent of Everything” – A Story of Invisible Industry at M C Ghia Hall. It was followed by PPT on “Laughter at Sea”.

Fellowship:

Saturday, 14th January – Day & Night RCBP Fellowship Cricket Match

On 14th January 2017, from 5 pm onwards our Club had organized Pier Cricket League 2017 - Day & Night Cricket Match for Members, their families and friends at Khar Gymkhana followed by fellowship. We had four teams (Gladiators, Smashers, Avengers and Bulls) of 8 players each, with each team having one Anne and one Rtn kid age 10 to 20 years. Many prizes were won. It was a tennis ball game and had cheer leaders too. The four Captains were Rtn Girish Jain, Rtn Saif Qureishi, Rtn Ashish Shah and Rtn Rajesh Baheti. Commentary was by Rtn Bal Agrawal. The winning Captains were Rtn Girish Jain and Rtn Rajesh Baheti. It was super fun and highly enjoyable. 31 Rotarians, 28 Annes and 8 kids participated.

Fireside Meeting:

Fourth Fireside Meeting hosted by Rtn PP Saurabh Sonawala

The fourth Fireside Meeting followed by dinner was held on Tuesday, 31st January at 8 pm which was hosted by Rtn PP Saurabh Sonawala at 52 Summerville, Bhulabhai Desai Road, Mumbai 400026. Guest Speaker was Rtn PP Akshay Mehta. The fireside was attended by Rtn PP Ameet & Raje Barot, Rtn Mansur & Anu Khan, Rtn Abhi & Heena Jhaveri, Rtn PP Saurabh Sonawala, Rtn Darshana Vasa, Rtn Anirudh Gupta, Rtn Neena Mehta, Rtn Rajesh Duggal, Rtn Devang Goradia, Rtn Rupen & Neha Doshi and Rtn Riaz & Mariya Nagree

Participation in District Events:

Co-sponsored National Level Blind Cricket Tournament along with RC of Bombay Queen City

Our Club co-sponsored National Level Blind Cricket Tournament from 11th to 13th January at Wilson Gymkhana along with Blind Welfare Organization and South Mumbai Rotary Clubs. Lead Club was RC of Bombay Queen City. There were 8 teams from 8 states and a total of 150 players participated. The Tournament was inaugurated on 11th January by the hands of DG Nominee Rtn Shashi Sharma and Closing Ceremony was on 13th January at 4.30 pm. The following Clubs sponsored the Teams.

Participated in “Heads We Win”, Road Safety Awareness Project as support club

Our Club participated in “Heads We Win”, Road Safety Awareness Project held on 29th January as Support Club under Non-Medical – Environment Project. Along with Bike Rally there was a talk on Road Safety Awareness by Youth - Rotaract Clubs and College Students. The Rally Route was from Bandra Kurla Complex and Kalanagar Junction to Sathaye College Vile Parle West with 200 responsible youth. Traffic Police Personnel and excellent performers from RTO Department were honoured. Helmets were distributed to the participating youth.

Discon 2017

13 Members attended the District Conference on 7th and 8th January 2017 at Hotel Sahara Star. First Lady Mariya Nagree participated in the dance performance as “Mumtaz”.

Literacy Hero Awards 2017

For the Literacy Hero Awards Rtn PP Sunnil Mehra was selected as a Star Performer from our RID 3141 (17 Applications).

The other Star Performers were Hyma Rao RID 3150 (17 Applications) Vaishali Bhagwat RID 3131 (16 Applications) Vijaylexmi Nair RID 3211 (11 Applications)

As a token of appreciation all four will get complimentary registration for Chennai Summit 2017.

Pratham Appreciation Award

Rtn PP Devang Goradia was conferred with Pratham Appreciation Award for his outstanding contribution and excellent support with innovative ideas in creating beautiful District Directory and website and taking the Rotary District 3141 to a greater height at District Conference 2017.

Medical Projects:

Co-hosted Phoenix Mega Medical Camp – Rotary Arogya Mela

Our Club participated and co-hosted the Rotary Arogya Mela from 20th to 22nd January 2017 from 10 am to 5 pm at Phoenix Mills Compound, Lower Parel.

The Camp was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri R D Shinde, Additional Police Commissioner and DG Rtn Gopal Mandhania. The Lead Club was RC of Bombay Queen City. More than 4000 people took advantage of the Mega Medical Camp. Co-hosting charges were Rs 25,000/-

Paediatric Heart Surgeries

Our Club has completed 82 paediatric heart surgeries at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital under the GG till first week of January 2017.

Polio NID

Our Club has shown the polio film to students of two schools namely M P Shah School (550 students) and New English High School, Sion (450 students).

Our Club participated in first NID of 2017 on Sunday, 29th January 2017 at 2nd October HP Centre, Virdarshan 12, G D Ambedkar Road, Bhoiwada. Bivalent P1 & P2 vaccines are given to children upto 5 years of age. 2nd October camp comprises of 17 centres and 58 staff to whom we provided conveyance and food packets. It is a five-day camp and BMC staff will be going from house to house for vaccinating the children. Many thanks to Rtn Munaf.

Congenial Heart Check-up Camp On 22nd January

RCBP conducted a congenial heart check-up camp on 22nd January 2017 at Nalasopara. 35 children were examined and 5 were detected with problems. One of them who is just 7 months old needed immediately to be admitted and the process began from 23rd January. Many thanks.

It was an emotional sight to see the parents in tears and with philanthropic hearts we can help those who cannot sometimes give Rs 15,000 also for a Rs 3 lakh surgery. The project was attended by Rtn PP Sunnil Mehra. Thanks also goes to the District Team of Little Hearts Project led by Natasha and Khuzem and of which our Rtn PP Sunnil Mehra is a part of which is responsible for this wonderful work.

Best Eye Hospital

Rtn PP Dr Keiki Mehta and IPP Rtn Dr Cyres Mehta’s Mehta International Eye Institute has won an award for the “Best Eye Hospital” in Mumbai. Congratulations to IPP Rtn Dr Cyres and his father.

Non-Medical Projects:

On Saturday, 7th January at 7.30 pm our Club had organized Rotary Annapoorna Project at Jai Jalaram Bapa Trust, Opp 2nd Bhoiwada (Phool Gally), Bhuleshwar. The project was attended by Rtn Bal Agarwal and his nephew who had come down from Bihar. Meals were served to more than 320 needy people.

Youth:

Adopted two Balwadis in Mumbai Central area

We have already adopted two Balwadis in Mumbai Central area. There are 40 kids per balwadi and the cost of Midday Meal per day is Rs 720/-. The Club provides Midday Meals to the 80 kids on school days for the whole year. This is an ongoing project of the Club.

RYLA – Educational Study Tour

A one day RYLA (educational trip) had been organized on Friday, 13th January 2017 at Smart Eco Park, Panvel. A total of 180 including 160 underprivileged students of Vatsalya Foundation and Teach for India, 10 teachers and 9 Pierites had an amazing experience at the one of its kind Smart Eco Park in Panvel.

We did activities like rain forest walk, water filteration activity, organic vegetable farming, banana garden trail, some very informative cattle education and much more. We ate awesome lunch and drink made from farm veges and herbs. We brought home some complimentary organic basil plants. The children were very happy and satisfied. Project cost Rs 1.10 lakhs.

A big thank you to Rtn Kaushik for planning and executing it so well. Rtn Devang Goradia, Rtn Saurabh Sonawala, Rtn Sunnil Mehra, Rtn Harshit Doshi, President Rtn Riaz and Mariya Nagree, Rtn Kaushik and Jalpa Shah and their daughter Priyal attended the RYLA and enjoyed it.
