The Pastor’s Corner: Dear Parishioners & Friends: From the moment of his arrival, people have been trying to figure out who Jesus is and what his coming means for them and for the world. The means by which we come to know that truth vary widely, as we see throughout the Bible and in our own lives. Some come to know and understand the truth over time, some through suffering, some through seeking, some through love in action, and others through a Road to Damascus/sudden conversion type encounter. Regardless of the path to understanding, that moment when the truth of Jesus’ true identity is grasped is an epiphany.

O Come Let Us Adore Him!
Weekly Offering: Week of December 14-20, 2021: Weekly Online: 5,539.00 Weekly Mail & Mass: 7,162.00 Weekly Total: 12,701.00 Weekly Offering Budget: 12,757.00 Variance: (56.00) The Weekly Offering amount includes only: regular collections at Mass, online, and mail donations to be retained by the parish and Building & Maintenance donations. Christmas and Easter collections will be reported separately. Other parish income is not included above. Please note: The lower budget number above does not mean that it costs less to run the parish well. It is simply a result of decreases in Mass attendance and parish donations and is a number we very much hope to exceed so we can continue our work and ministries.

Merriam Webster defines epiphany as: “an appearance or manifestation especially of a divine being; a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something; an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking; an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure; a revealing scene or moment.” In this week’s Gospel, we hear of the epiphany experienced by the Magi, wise men who sought to understand who Jesus was and were open and accepting of the truth once they perceived it. I believe the Magi experienced all of these things as they beheld Jesus and appreciated who he was and what he meant for the world. Their sudden understanding led to joy which led to love which led to action. They worshipped him and gave him their gifts. My wish for us is that we experience anew the understanding and wonder of who Jesus is and what he means to us. That such understanding also lead us to joy, love, and action. Let us worship him like the Magi and ask ourselves, what gifts will we give him?
