Respected members, Jai Jinendra, We wish you all a great Diwali celebration with your family and friends and best wishes for the New Year of V.S. 2069. We have Diwali Day celebration, combined with our General Body Meeting, on Saturday, November 17th, 2012. The Program details are included in this Jainvani. We completed the celebration of the Paryushan Parva during September 12 to 19, ending with Parna for Sakal Sangh on September 20. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee, we want to offer “Michhami Dukkadam” to all of you. We seek forgiveness from all of you for any transgressions through Thoughts, Words and Actions. Here are the highlights of Paryushan and other events at the temple: Members enjoyed the Paryushan Parva with Pujya Pramodaben. We were also blessed by the presence of Gurudev Chitrabhanuji. We had 33 (32 adults and 1 youth) members who completed Atthai (8 fasts) or higher Tapasya in good 'Shaata'. Please see the later part of Jainvani for a complete list of all the Tapasvis. 18 Study class students, ranging from age 7 to 15 years did Tapasya (16 points and higher) on all Eight days of Paryushan. We are very proud of the religious spirit in our children and thankful to the parents & teachers for instilling the values of Jainism into them. Anukampa Daan drive was very well coordinated by Bharti Manish Shah. With her inspiration, our Society was able to donate 800 lbs of essential items to the needy people. This was the second year we had the Anukampa Daan Drive. We appreciate the efforts of Bharti. New Pledges during the Paryushan week added up over $100K. We are delighted to announce that we have received the sponsorship to do Sakal Sangh Parna for 2013 and also for 2014. Many members of JSGD observed the "Shri Das Lakshana Parva". Das Lakshana Dharam Puja and Swamivatsalya were celebrated on September 30th. We would like to convey our Best Wishes and "Shaata" for graciously completing the Parva. It was our pleasure to host 50 Yatris of Atlanta Sangh who visited us from 10/12 to 10/13 as part of their Yatra. We are thankful to approx. 40 JSGD members who welcomed and accompanied them
throughout their visit. Atlanta Sangh praised our efforts for support, religious activities, food, and
exceptional hospitality and presented JSGD with a plaque as a token of appreciation. We thank Yatra committee – Vastupalbhai, Vinaybhai, Varshaben and Snehaben for their support in coordinating the proceedings during their stay. Ayambil Auri (10/21 to 10/29) was done by 55 members (see list in later part of the Jain Vani) thanks to the great efforts of the Ayambil Auri coordinators – Bhartiben J. Shah and Shitalben S. Shah. Navpadjini Puja was conducted on 10/28. Ayambil Auri was followed by Parna (10/30) for all Ayambil Auri Tapasvis. We wish very good "Shaata" for all the Tapasvis.
Study class students participated in Annual Day Program on 9/30. Kids ranging from 3 to 15 years of age performed during the program. It was well executed and well received due to individual and collective performance from students. Thanks to all the volunteers for a flawless program. Study class students have decorated several Rangolis. Please plan on visiting the area and encourage them during upcoming Diwali program. Have you done the RSVP for the Diwali Swamivatsalya lunch yet? If not, please visit the temple website and sign up at http://www.jain-temple.org/rsvp.php. We plan to start and complete the program in time. Your timely presence will be highly appreciated. Thanks & Jai Jinendra! Organizing Society Records: One of the projects the BOT is working on this year is to consolidate all the JSGD records both hard and soft copies in a central location. We are prioritizing those records that are Legal, JSGD assets and financial. If you have any of these records stored with you please provide to Milap Shah. Hard/Soft copies can be dropped off at the temple office. Please place in an envelope marked "Attention to Milap”, and include your contact information. If you have an questions please call Milap at 734-455-5260. Thank you for your support and the safekeeping of society documents. Charitable Gift of Life Insurance: Life Insurance can be a convenient way to make a substantial gift to JSGD for a relatively modest annual cost. While there are many different types of life insurance, the principle of giving remains the same - a relatively small gift in the present will ultimately provide a much larger gift in the future. Plus your donations could be tax deductible. If you are interested in this program or need more details, please contact any EC or BOT member. If you are a society member in good standing for at least 3 years and are a Life Insurance agent, please send us your name and contact information so that we can provide it to the interested members. JAINA 2013 Convention: This time, the JAINA convention is in our town – yes, Detroit is hosting the upcoming 2013 JAINA Convention! Vastupalbhai Shah is leading the efforts for this convention. We would like to encourage every family to have at least one member be part of the JAINA team. Members Financial Statements: Please look through your recent statement from the Society. We request you to pay any outstanding balance in a timely manner. Please call Nikhil Kothari (BOT) or Vijay B Shah (EC) if you have any questions about your statement.

Puja Samagri Checkout Policy In our continuing efforts to streamline the temple operations, we have created Puja samagri checkout policy. This has become necessary with growing number of members hosting puja at their residence. There are three components: the guidelines, the puja samagri request form, and puja samagri checklist. These are available on the temple website under Puja section. Please carefully read and follow the guidelines while planning a puja at your residence. We appreciate your cooperation. http://www.jain-temple.org/documents/puja-samagri-guidelines.pdf
Pachkhan on JSGD website
http://www.jain-temple.org/pachkhan.php now lists the pachkhan in English and Gujarati. This will certainly help many young tapasvis to take Pachkhan on their own.
Paryushan Parva Celebration
Our Society was blessed to have Pujya Pramodaben for the s this year. She focused on the fundamental five Kartavas that
Jain Shravaks and Shravikas are supposed to observe especially during Paryushan. She spent quality time in helping us
understand the non-violence in the dairy industry and distributed a booklet “Dark Truth Behind The Milk Myth” published by
her. She pleaded us to be conscientious about the abuse to the Panchindriya Jiv and be compassionate.
Our Society is blessed to have so many tapascharya every year!

We appreciate the help received from several members for help during Mahavir Janma Vanchan Day. The function along
with Swamivatsalya was attended by 675 members!
The Parna team did an exceptional job in coordinating Parna for all the Tapsvis and Sakal Sangh. The Parna sponsors were
a team of seven families (published in September Jain Vani). We are pleased to share that we have already received Parna
sponsors from Year 2013 and 2014.
Our special thanks to Pujariji Harindrabhai and Mayuriben for their extended hours of hard work and their dedication with
smiling face during Paryushan and Das Laxanan parva!

Das Lakshan Parva Celebration
Several JSGD members completed Dus Lakshan Parva peacefully. During this parva, ten universal dharma or virtues of our soul are venerated and worshipped for self-purification and atonement. These are:- 1. Uttama Kshama – The noble virtue of supreme forbearance 6. Sanyam – Self-restraint or self-control 2. Mardav – Humility or modesty 7. Tapa– The practice of austerity 3. Aarjav – Straight forwardness 8. Tyaga – Renunciation 4. Shouch – Purity of thought and freedom from greed 9. Akinchinya – Without even slight attachment 5. Satya– Speaking the truth 10. Brahmacharya – Chastity It started on Bhadra shukla 5 (Sept 19) and ended on Bhadra Shukla 14 (Sept 28). Daily Abhishek, puja, bhakti and aarti were performed with great enthusiasm. We concluded these auspicious parva on Friday Sept. 28 with Abhishek and puja in the morning and pratikraman and bhakti in the evening. On Sept 30, nearly 200 members joined together and performed “Dev Shashtra Guru” Puja, Dus lakshan Puja, bhakti and aarti. The whole atmosphere was very blissful. This was then followed by delicious lunch prepared by the team led by Mrs. Sudhaben Jain, Mrs. Nisha Doshi and Mrs. Parul Shah. Our sincere thanks to many volunteers who helped in food preparation. Many members volunteered to prepare puja samagri and puja thalis and for hall preparation and clean up, many thanks to everyone for their support. We ask for forgiveness from every living being and extend our forgiveness to every living being and strive to destroy enmity amongst us. We wish that we continue our aaradhana past these parva and progress on path of liberation.

Jai Jinendra. Each year, JOY makes it a goal to have social, educational, religious and charitable events, through which its members can bond and grow socially and spiritually and make a difference in our temple, community and society as a whole. On October 21st, JOY had its annual General Body Meeting, and it was a success. We met up at the temple after Study Class to go over the bylaws, and then we all went bowling together. It was a lot of fun! However, it would have been nice to see more members there. We would like more students to become members, and participate in our events; so we request all parents to please encourage your sons and daughters to join. If they are not a member yet, and are in group 6 or higher, talk to any JOY Executive Board Member, and we can easily set them as a member. Coming up on November 22nd, Thanksgiving Day, JOY has its Navkar Jaap, where JOY prepares breakfast for anyone that attends, and following that, we have an hour and a half Jaap, where we recite Navkar Mantras continuously, without stop, for all the turkeys that get killed for Thanksgiving. It is a good event, and it doesn't cost money to attend, although donations are accepted. This year, we will send all profits from donations to charity, so it is all going to a good cause! Please mark the date on your calendars.
