All graduates have the opportunity to get assistance applying for the Bright Futures Grant Program of Weld County. This program offers up to $3,000/year for college/post-secondary training to Weld County graduates

May 16, 2017, 11:00am – Mandatory Graduation Meeting JHS Gym • All graduates must attend in order to receive detailed graduation information, sign the graduation contract and pick up their Cap & Gown. May 24, 2017, 1:00pm – Graduation Rehearsal Union Colony Civic Center • All Graduates must attend! Do not have to dress up. May 24, 2017, 7:00pm – Formal Graduation Ceremony Union Colony Civic Center • Graduates must arrive at 6:00pm • Doors open at 6:30pm

JHS 2017 UIP and SPF Summary

Overview of Universal Improvement Plan (UIP) and (SPF)

Jefferson High School (JHS) is in its seventh year as an alternative education campus (AEC). Over 95% of its students come into Jefferson behind on credits, and it has a high population of transient students. 86.7% of Jefferson students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Jefferson has qualified as an “improvement school” where it has scored a 57.59% on AEC performance standards where 60% qualifies a school for “performance level”. Students scored a 50% in CMAS Science which qualifies as “approaching.” Jefferson did not have enough students in Math or English Language Arts to qualify a score. Jefferson did not meet expectations in attendance or truancy by scoring 72.4% and 20% respectively; however, Jefferson “meets” and “exceeds” in Positive Socio-Emotional, Returning Student Rate, and Student Re-engagement rates. Jefferson also scored as “exceeds in completion rate, and scored as “meets” in Course Completion and Post-Completion Success Rates.

JHS is not a Title 1 School, but has restructured FTE allotment to hire interventionists and allow more opportunities for tier 2 interventions in math and literacy. Achieve 3000 and Alek computer software has been purchased and implemented into blended learning programs to provide targeted intervention for students who are not performing at grade level competencies. While JHS is seeing positive growth in both reading and math, the adequate growth percentile continues to be high due to students who come to JHS behind in both subjects.

In Performance Indicator 1: Academic Achievement

Reading: While our trend is moving in a positive direction, student achievement in reading is low, and is still below AEC criteria for “Meets” (35.4%) by .68%.

Math: Pervasively low performance in Math is still below AEC criteria for “Meets” (4.4%) by .95%..

Writing: While our trend is moving in a positive direction, student achievement in writing is still below AEC criteria for “Meets” (14.6%) by 1.41%.

Challenges Root Causes

Planning and Changes

Tier 2 interventions:

Implement tier 2 Math interventions to backfill and solidify background knowledge. Teachers will use “Alek” in blended learning programs to solidify background knowledge.

Implement tier 2 English Language Arts interventions to backfill and solidify background knowledge. Teachers will use “Achieve 3000” in blended learning programs to solidify background knowledge.

Continued implementation of the “Discovery” program to continue to improve students’ socio-emotional competency and student reengagement.

JHS implementó programas de computación Achieve 3000 y Alek para promover educación semipresencial, y para enfocar los esfuerzos de intervenciones para los estudiantes quienes no cumplen en el nivel de su grado. Positive Mental Attitude ~ Positivo Mental Actitud

When you think of P.M.A. you probably think of Jefferson High School. Why you may ask? Well because we're the only school that takes our Discovery skills very seriously. P.M.A is actually an acronym for

positive, mental, attitude. Our 6 P’s are very special to us and important skills that are good for everyday life. When P.M.A was first introduced to you probably were in Discovery or Jag Time. When you have P.M.A. you have positive thoughts even though your day isn’t going well, you still have that positive feeling in your mind and you don’t let anything get in your way. Science teacher, Rob Liebman said “I love the focus of P.M.A. here at Jefferson because I dislikes snotty children.” Shelly Kaspar in room 19 described P.M.A. “When a student isn’t on their phone and is paying attention there showing good P.M.A. but if a student is being very disruptive with their phone that it showing that students are off task and is not showing good P.M.A. skills.

We take are p’s very serious so the next time you’re not task just remember that you’re not showing those great P.M.A skills that all your teachers remind you every day.

Cuando piensas en P.M.A., probablemente piensas en Jefferson High School. ¿Por qué - puedes preguntar? Bueno, porque somos la única escuela que tomamos las habilidades de descubrimiento muy literalmente. P.M.A. es en realidad un acrónimo de (positivo, mental, actitud) nuestros 6 P son muy especiales para nosotros y una habilidad importante y es buena para la vida cotidiana.

Cuando tengas P.M.A. tu tienes pensamientos positivos a pesar de que su día no vaya bien, todavía tiene ese sentimiento positivo en su mente y no deje que nada se interponga en su camino. El profesor de ciencias, Rob Liebman dijo: "Me encanta el enfoque de P.M.A aquí en Jefferson porque no me gustan los niños gruñones ." Shelly Kaspar en la habitación 19 describió P.M.A "Cuando un estudiante no está en su teléfono y está prestando atención allí mostrando buena P.M.A. Pero si un estudiante está siendo muy perturbador con su teléfono que muestra que los estudiantes están fuera de la tarea y no está mostrando buena P.M.A. actitud.

Underfunded Schools

More than 40% of low income schools don't get a fair share of state and local funds, Department of education finds that schools serving low income students are being shortened because districts across the country are inequitably distributing their state and local funds. High poverty schools have been proven to receive less than their fair share of state and local funding leaving students in poverty with fewer resources than schools attended by wealthier peers.

Educators across the country understand low income students need extra resources and support to succeed but don't get it without the funding to help students they cannot succeed without the materials they need that aren't provided by the districts because state and local funds aren't equally provided .

Underfunded schools will affect everyday people because if schools aren't funded there will be less schools open and more people without work also causing crowded schools to get bigger. Más del 40% de las escuelas de bajos ingresos no reciben una parte equitativa de los fondos estatales y locales, el Departamento de Educación encuentra que las escuelas que sirven a los estudiantes de bajos ingresos se están acortando porque los distritos de todo el país distribuyen injustamente sus fondos estatales y locales.
