Jackson PollockJackson PollockBorn:1912
Where: Cody, Wyoming
Style: Abstract Expressionism
Known for: Inventing a new method of painting in which he poured paint directly to canvas on the floor. He used sticks and hardened brushes to fling, drip, and splash multiple layers of house paint until a dense web of color was formed. He would walk around the canvas and make spontaneous expressive markings but would argue that there are no accidents in his work.

Jackson Pollock: Lavender Mist Lavender Mist 1950 Oil & enamel on canvas 87” x118”
Description: Considered to be Pollock’s most important “drip” painting. One can trace his rhythmic movements in the long arcs, dribbles, and pools of color creating a rich shimmering interlace. It only has a few colors and is able to achieve a soft tonal effect. The long black and white strokes implies a linear structure. It has no focal points and the “allover” composition creates an even density. This kind of painting was
also called
”Action Painting”
