+PAVE
PAVE stands for Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment. I assist this student organization dedicated to ending sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus through education and activism as a volunteer person.
PAVE works to end all forms of sexual violence – stranger and acquaintance assault, intimate partner violence and incest – as well as dating/domestic violence and stalking. PAVE acknowledges that these assaults continually occur in our community to wide variety of people. No one, regardless of sex, gender, race, sexual orientation, mental capacity, physical capabilities, etc. is immune from the dangers of violence.
PAVE’s efforts are focused on primary prevention, meaning we work to stop violence before it starts. This is done by challenging people’s attitudes and behaviors surrounding sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking.
PAVE’s goal is to provide clear and consistent definitions of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking in order to reduce rape myth acceptability and promote community ownership over what are often regarded as private issues.
