neither the society nor its members are anywhere tobe found in the known world. Speculation as to thelocation of Birocamo ranges from cities deepunderground or undersea to Lagrange point o’neillspace stations, or even asteroid belt colonies.

Cosmozoaphilia Hypothesis, the theory that theuniverse, by its very nature, is friendly to life.Starting with life-compatible physical laws, the ideathat organic molecules as pre-biotic building blocksoriginated in space, are scattered throughout, and areincorporated into solar nebula from which stars andplanets condense, is widely accepted. Most versionsof the cosmozoaphilia hypothesis also combineelements of abiogenesis, random and directedpanspermia, and exogenesis. First formulated byZhang Wei and popularized by the Canadian-basedjournal CZP, cosmozoaphilia gained traction afterthe Wiley Incident.

The standard model posits thatordinary matter constitutes less than five percent ofthe known universe, with the bulk comprised of darkmatter and dark energy, with each category disparateand unrelated. The analogy instead is of a large bodyof water upon which floats the foam of our visibleuniverse and its ordinary matter. This postulates afundamentally different cosmological relationshipbetween the visible and invisible universe, and thusfalls within a unified dark fluid approach. What isinterstitial depends on the frame of reference. The“foam” that is ordinary matter is ephemeral to thevast dark volume of the universe, yet our visibleuniverse is coming to see the underlying dark realityat its interstices.

JINN (Janus Systems Integrated Neural Networks),bicameral digital computer system frequently used inoffice environments.

Lemuria West, corporate-financed marine platformoutside Santa Monica Bay off southern California. Atwenty-one mile long, one-mile-wide, loose-weave-nanofiber, crescent-shaped structure supportingarcowafer superstructures and utilizing a porousnanoctopod pylon base construction, Lemuria Westwas “grown” in 2031. It has demonstrated none ofthe serious problems plaguing subsequent versionsof this marine nanotechnology that have since madeits commercial application prohibitive. other life:machine life: self-replicating, starfaring sentientmachines . Most widely known are thedecakilometer-sized “star whales,” which areperhaps six to eight billion years old and popularlybelieved to be of GenSen origin. There is anecdotalevidence that the mysterious GenSen artifactsserve in whale repair and reproduction. The muchsmaller and more numerous autonomous “stardolphins” evolved from whales two to four billionyears ago. Legends of planet-sized machine coralspersist. Found galaxy-wide, whales and dolphinsare slightly curious about but generally indifferentto organic life. They are occasionally found inapparent symbiotic relationship with plasmic life.

Less well known are two further classes ofmachine life. Novum is an elusive, self-organized,extremely heterodox “maroon machine”civilization comprised of interstellar probes andother spacefaring robotic devices turned autonomicfrom a bewildering variety of sentient organicraces. Openly hostile to organic life, periodicbreakaway cells from Novum evolve the mission toexterminate everything from a particular organicrace to all organic life, with varying degrees ofsuccess.

A much broader class of machine life is machinesentiency that supersedes the organic sentiency thatcreates it. The diverse machine and cyborganiccivilizations in this category gain their individualascendencies through the extinction, fallowing out,or extermination of their respective “genesissentiencies,” yet they invariably bear the uniqueimprint of their organic creators. Frequentlyspacefaring and sometimes starfaring, there isevidence of cooperation between Novum andcertain malignant superseding machine sentiencies.plasmic life: self-replicating sentient plasmasfound in inner arm pop-one and core/halo pop-twostars, and very rarely in highly ionized interstellarnebula. One-half to one percent of sentient stellar

Plasteel retainedthe elastic strength of plastics while benefiting fromthe strength and heat resistance of metal. Plasglasscombined the strength, elasticity, transparency, andinsulation of its constituent substances. This processwas employed between 2018 and 2026, but quicklybecame too expensive to remain commerciallyviable.

Qa’ida (Qa’idi), followers of an Islamic sectfounded by bin Laden and al-Zawahiri, based ontheir interpretation of the teachings of al-Wahab,Muhammad ‘Abduh, Abdullah Azzam, al-Afghani,Rashid Rida, Sayyid Qutb, and others. An offshootof the Wahabbist/Salafist tendency, Qa’idism helpedintroduce suicide martyrdom into Sunni Islam as partof its extreme interpretation of jihad. In addition tothe hadjj, Qa’ida pilgrimage to holy shrines andhealing sites in marginal Afghanistani, Pakistani andYemeni tribal areas, the Somali and Philippinewildzones, Chechyna, etc. Some scholars haveremarked upon Qa’ida’s resemblance to the earlyIsmaili sect in Shi’ite Islam, particularly in its

RSC, short for Ruby Satellite Control, a mythicunderground hacker collective which operated in theUnited States and Canada between 2026 and 2029.Created first autonomous hacker software, andcommon usage refers to any autonomouslyoperating, malicious software virus, ‘bot, oroperating system as RSCware. The RSC collectivedisbanded before its members were caught.

Six Dominions (DomSix), galactic arm pan-civilization known as the Five Dominions (DomFiveor Full Dominion) before c. 2042 and the WileyIncident. It comprises six independent, oxyorganicdominions in constant war with HyDom. SixDominions and HyDom both rely on Genesis Keydevelopment.

Synarky/symmunism/commensalism: Synarky isboth a term from political ecology and the name foran international social protest movement during the

first quarter of the 21st century. In line with the shiftin biology from Darwinian “survival of the fittest” tonotions of symbiotic evolution, synarky offered acritique of competitive global capitalism and a visionof decentralized socialist mutualism. An overarchingpolitical movement based on synarchist principlesemerged in the early 2020s based on more particularsquatter, anti-GE, and anti-work movements, as wellas various rebellious youth subcultures. Synarkytried to maintain a “two-handed” revolutionarystrategy; the left hand building intracommunalservices and the right hand battling the old orderwith direct action and street fighting. Synarky waschallenged in the mid 2020s by a faction within itsranks calling itself symmunism. Symmunismdeveloped a political ecology based on the metaphorof the cell’s evolution: a radical symbiosis offormerly independent organisms evolving into anentirely new superorganism. Primarily, symmunismorganized cyburban guerrilla detachments for moreserious forms of armed struggle and digital warfare;and secondarily, building a series of almostimpenetrable, virtually self-sustaining, parallelunderground infrastructures. Their precisely targetedarmed campaigns, spectacular computer hacks, andoverall Robin Hood approach brought symmunismwide media attention and growing popular support,indirectly contributing to the resurgence of synarky.By the late 2020s, national governments in NorthAmerica and Europe started concerted if overbroadefforts to suppress symmunism in particular andsynarky in general. Largely successful, synarky wasrelegated to the countercultural dustbin, alongsidebeatniks, hippies, autonomen, and punks.Symmunism was almost entirely eradicated, despiterecurrent rumors of extant symmunist fighting cellsin as yet undiscovered underground symmunes. Third Way, the youngest of the six oxyorganicdominions, founded by the Xymry in c. 2042. Anominally federal, dynamically republican starfaringcivilization already exhibiting the classic drifttoward empire.

Tombov, Daniel, American architect (1970- ).Follower of Paolo Soleri and head of the desertcommunity Arcosanti after Soleri’s death. He calledhis functional organic style and self-sufficientarcologica l designs ecologica l tec tonics .Ecotectonics, or ectonics for short, with structuresbuilt upon these principles, are referred to asecotecture. They were the basis for the post-earthquake nucity of Portland, Oregon (2021).Tombov vigorously protested the use of his ideas tocreate totally controlled corporatist environmentsand refused to work on the Los Angeles (2024) andSan Francisco (2029) nucities, going so far as tounsuccessfully sue state and federal governments toprevent the incorporation of certain ectonicprinciples into their design.
