We are fortunate to have a membership that could provide us on successive Fridays first Tom Knox and then Dan Hall today.
As if “Will Call” Hall is not busy enough being a husband, parent, Rotarian, lawyer, business executive and fabulous bicyclist, Dan is president of the board of directors for the nonprofit American River Parkway Foundation.

because, in addition to our NBA franchise, it has a 4,600-acre jewel stretching over thirty miles. Thanks to Dan and
the efforts of like-minded folks, Sacramento will have the Parkway even when the inevitable day comes that Los Angeles does not have the Lakers. To help the Parkway (not the Lakers), you can buy an annual park pass ($50), join in on a workday, or otherwise give of your time to Dan’s foundation or one of the four other nonprofits that strive to protect and enhance our urban oasis. Thank you Dan.
Festa will be on us before we know it. If you have an interesting item that you think will sell well, please contact JR and let him know. This is a big fundraiser for us and we need everyone’s help. February 25th is almost here and if you’re not one of the 30 that
have signed up you’re going to miss out on a great time at our Annual Bowling Bash. Sign-up now with Desiree or Tom Knox. Never been to a District Assembly? Well, here’s your chance. This year’s District Assembly on March 24 will be at Inderkum High School. This is a must for new board members or new Rotarians to find out all about Rotary and it is only from 8 am to 3 pm.

Who Are These Guys Anyway?
If you aren’t one of
the representatives from these companies it is likely that you don’t know why we are so grateful to their contributions. These four companies are Club Sponsors. What that means is that each of the companies has contributed at least $1500 annually to Point West Rotary. This is a great way for your company to contribute to PWR. For more information contact our President or a Board member.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE
LIVINGIN 2012 when...
1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave. 2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years. 3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three. 4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you. 5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses. 6. You pull up in your own
driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries... 7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen 8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it 10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee 11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : ) 12 You're reading this and nodding and laughing. 13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message. 14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list. 15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.
AND FINALLY
NOW you’re LAUGHING at yourself!
" Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to
be amused!"

Do you know who our charity partner is this year? This year Point West Rotary will be helping Sierra Forever Families through its contributions from Festa di Vino. Their mission statement is “we transform the lives of children in foster care by building and nurturing permanent families.” They have four centers, Sacramento Center, Nevada City Center, Auburn Center (PlacerKids) and Chico Adoptive Family Resource Center. Bob Herne,
Executive Director says, “Sierra Forever Families is committed to providing and enhancing post-permanency services. They were the first agency in Northern California to open an Adoptive Family Resource Center.” Each of their offices provides information, referrals; support groups and engage in permanency competent therapeutic support. In collaboration with the State, Sierra provides post adoption supports to an additional nine rural counties in Northern California. Sierra is also part of the Community Champions Network Collaborative that recently developed a post adoption website for the Sacramento area. Sierra is continually striving to provide enhanced supports to our children and families in order to strengthen a “forever family.”

The Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the
ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in
particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an
opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and
professions, the recognition of the
worthiness of all useful occupations, and the
dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as
an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in
each Rotarian’s personal, business, and
community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of international
understanding, goodwill, and peace
through a world fellowship of business and
professional persons united in ideals of
service.
THE FOURWAY TEST
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all?
