Here is the letter

Dear Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar,Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani,

I am writing to YOU specifically because you are the most powerful andinfluential MEN in our country.

I am writing to you as a woman who grew up in a middle class family in Mumbai.

I am writing to YOU for HELP!

My parents may not like me saying this. I apologize to them if they arereading but this is NOT MY SHAME. It’s THIER SHAME.

My first experience with the opposite sex, was when I was just 13 and groped by aman (never saw his face but will never forget his hand) while walking in thevegetable market with my mom. She had just given me the worst haircut and asan angry teenager I was upset at her and was lagging behind as she walked ahead.I still remember what I was wearing. When I was 15, I started going by train and bus to St. Xaviers’ College. I wasgroped and touched and from all angles and this was just how I grew up. Not JustMe but MOST INDIAN WOMEN who don’t have the luxury of cars and drivers.

As a teenager I would dream of and still sometimes dream that I had amachine gun and could kill all the men who tried to grope me. A verydisturbing dream for a kid, don’t you think?

I got my first assignment as a model in the FYJC and I had to go to screentestsstraight from college. So I had to dress nice, didn’t make it any easier. Ispecifically remember the time I went for an audition in a red body suit and ablack long skirt with slits. It was HELL! I never wore that again. As if it was thedress’s fault.

I developed ways to defend myself, I always carried a bag in front ofme, my fist was always clenched, I always turned around every 20seconds to check who was behind me and a few times I slapped menwho touched me, I got slapped back many times too. Sometimes savedby the public, MOST TIMES NOT.

My mom begged me not to pick fights with men who touched me, shewas afraid of acid being thrown at me or that somebody somedaywould hurt me badly. She is STILL AFRAID and today she told me notto take an UBER to my meeting tomorrow. Hell ya. BAN UBER! Makeeveryone take responsibility for this.

My sister got into Sophia’s college, we were all excited. She went by bus but thefirst day she came home, she sobbed traumatized. A man had put his hand in herteeshirt through her sleeve, the entire bus ride. She just froze. She was a kid tooand wasn’t equipped to even understand this. I was LIVID. I’m sorry sis fortelling the world this, please don’t stop speaking to me. IT’S NOT Our Shame. It’sTHEIRS!

One of my friends in college was RAPED on the train on her way home in theladies compartment. She was sick and was going home in the 11:15 break. Therewas nobody in the first class compartment going back to Bandra at that time, itwas a superfast meaning it didn’t stop at most stations. He raped her and thenjumped off after using her scrunchy (hair tie) to wipe himself. She was the onlyone on the train and had to limp her way back to her home in Bandra, bleedingprofusely. She was just 16. This she felt was her shame so she did notsay anything to anyone.

BUT IT ISN’T HER SHAME, it’s THEIR SHAME.

My mom accompanied me to Hyderabad on a shoot once. In churi bazaar, acyclist groped My MOM. My dear respected and lovely MOM.

Sorry Mom, IT’S NOT Our Shame, It’s THEIR SHAME.

Why am I telling you my personal story?

Well first I want all women to Speak Up.

Let’s make this our MOTTO

It’s not OUR SHAME, it’s THEIR SHAME.

Who are “THEY”?

“THEY” ARE THE MEN IN OUR COUNTRY.

Not just the rapists and the sexual offenders and gropers but also our Fathers(sorry dad) and Uncles and Brothers and MOVIE STARS AND CRICKETERSAND POLITICIANS for not SAVING US or PROTECTING US by insisting andprotesting for the LAWS TO CHANGE and Rapists and Gropers to BEPUNISHED SEVERELY!

Why do we as women have to feel so threatened? WHY has there been no severeaction taken? This has gone on for years now. Not just in Delhi but all over ourcountry and yes even in BOMBAY OR MUMBAI OR Whatever the hell you wantto call it! It’s NOT SAFE. NO!

My biggest fear ever since I was kid and even today when I walk backhome at night from yoga or when I take a rickshaw from a friend’shome is being RAPED. I still feel that fear. I am still am on guard. Istill fantasize of having that MACHINE GUN.

In the past 4 years I have been living and working half in India and half in NewYork and let me tell you I have walked the streets of Harlem, the Bronx andBrooklyn (perceived as the most dangerous in NYC) at 3 am after parties in shortskirts and felt safer than I feel in Bandra at 10 pm on a quiet road fully covered.WHY??

Let’s talk about Delhi our Capital. I was there 2 days ago and the day of the rape. Iwanted to go out and walk by India Gate and admire our great monuments butcould I?! Why??

What good are all your speeches in the US or Japan or AUSTRALIANAMO, if no woman can walk freely in the streets even in broaddaylight by herself in the CAPITAL OF OUR COUNTRY. Isn’t this aSHAME? SHAME ON YOU SIR.

This is our NO 1 issue. FIX THIS before anything else.

This is a SHAME. And it’s YOUR SHAME. You are now RESPONSIBLEFOR US.

I beg all of you fine gentlemen that I have addressed to help change the LAW.

You are powerful men. I say, SHAME and PUNISH THE Gropers and Sexualoffenders severely. KILL THE RAPISTS.

I won’t ask for public castration which is what I want and all the women wantbecause I know this is unrealistic and things move SO DAMN SLOW in our FINENATION.

All I ask for is the Death Penalty Please. NOW! QUICK!

If that’s too hard or will take too long then at least LIFE IMPRISONMENT.

Put them away forever.

Why was this man who had raped twice before out on bail?

And then given a drivers license? YES, BAN UBER TOO. Make everyoneresponsible.

I’m ready to do anything. I’m not a big enough celeb but you SachinTendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Sharukh Khan, AamirKhan, Anil Ambani SIRS need to speak up as MEN ( you are the menwith the power)

SAVE US!

Please demand the Death Sentence for the Rapists.

NO BAIL. Just Death.

Superstars I beg you, please take a stand. Use your Superstardom and Power andMONEY and save the women of our country. SAVE US!

I urge you to protest or go on a fast or do something DRASTIC so people takenotice, the government wakes up and CHANGES the LAW so these men areterrified to touch us.

Death to rapists. No bail. Just death.

Imagine Amitabh Bachchan Sir, Aamir Khan, Salmaan Khan, SachinTendulkar, Anil Ambani if you went on a fast or walked to theRashrtrapati In Delhi. If you, took this stand and made this YOUR NO1 issue, how much change there would be?!

Why should we as women feel so unsafe in our motherland?!

Why should we as women be terrified and on guard all the time.

Why was this man out on bail after committed two rapes already ?

Make an Example Of Him.

Any man who even touches a woman should be imprisoned for life.

Be strict, make examples of these men, scare those who dare to touch us.

SCARE THEM BY MAKING AN EXAMPLE OUT OF THEM.

SAVE US, Save your mother, daughter, sister please!

This is NOT OUR SHAME.

THIS IS YOURS.

SHAME ON YOU.

Don’t sleep till you SAVE YOUR WOMEN!

With all respect,

Ritesh Thakur · Army SchoolNow I am not against her. Groping, molestation is the root. we all agree to this. But if government makesamendment in law to punish molesters, gropers, rohtak girls like incidents will only increase. This give thosecriminal minded girls a way to stop a guy and ask him to give her a thousand bucks otherwise he will be takento police. Also , investigation for all those cases will only increase number of cases and as such case are verymuch in number , police will be doing only one thing, monitoring public areas and catching molesters which willaffect their other duties.

But yes, if punishing a guy twice doesn't stop him, put a bullet through his head next time he is caught (ubercase). If we are seeing cases like this (uber taxi case), next time onwards if someone is found guilty of such acrime, shoot him in the head otherwise he'll be spoiling more lives in future (we have learnt this now that deathto rape guilty is a must).

Talking about molestation, there is one and only one way, "to teach you sons while they are growing".Change THEIR minds, not laws.Reply · Like · · Follow Post · Edited · Yesterday at 8:25pm

Agree with you bro. Harsher punishments is a kneejerk reaction and it is not a longterm solution. The ONLY longterm (and painfully slow) solution is change in mindset of Indians. Every familyneeds to teach its sons to respect women and see them as individuals rather than objects to beused for their own pleasure. This is how it has happened in the West and this is how it'll have tohappen here too. Most European countries do not have death penalty but they still have very low crime rate.Reply · Like · · 20 hours ago

Every parents ask their daughters to be safe, not to wear that type of clothes, not to go alone etc. Why?Because they do not ask their sons to respect other girls. Parents never ask their boys not to stare at a girl whois someone's daughter/sister. Does all conditions applies to girls only? Boys do not have moral values? Boys do not need good parenting, boys do not need to be taught what to do or not?I ask you girls, do your parents treat your brothers same as they treat you?Answer is a big "NO".And when parents start to do it, I hope not only this type of crimes will decrease but girls will have a healthysurrounding to live their life being treated as humans not play things.Reply · Like · · Follow Post · Edited · 23 hours ago8

Life of every girl is like this....what we bear, we are told not to tell. ...or discuss. ...The pain , fear and anguishstays but no change takes place. It's a way boys are raised. They are allowed to tease girls, party atnight....because they are safe not knowing their acts with other girls. So many woman say "it's okay for men" but:why? You have written this letter very boldly. How many of us can even confess??? But I truly want a changefor all girls...For my friends and daughters.Reply · Like · · Follow Post · Yesterday at 4:44pm6

If proved beyond doubt, the rapist should be castrated. If there is no law then amend thelaws of the land to protect our women. Molesters should be imprisoned for life. If thejudiciary is not willing to take action, leave it to the public to take action. After all, if the lawmakers cannot take care of us, we have to take care of ourselves.

It is not the lack of laws that actually promotes corruption but the lack of willingness toimplement them. Making more laws would only help in falsifying the crimes.

Dear women, rather than whining on men, make sure u reproduce only good men, and if you are not sure you can bring them up good, then dont reproduce at all.

Ms. Treasury, miserably, failed to notice that MANY cases.....where rape cases arefalsified......what happens to them? I am not against death penalty BUT how about lot ofexisting laws being mis used by women? e.g. Dowry laws? So if a women law ismisused.....who is culprit? women themselves?

BUT, no way i mean to say that there should not be a death penalty for rapist. But it has tobe taken judiciously.....not for each and every cases. In this case, it was sort of clear thatdriver was responsible, so hang him.........

Meanwhile, till the law is not so stringent.......girls.....be cautious. Go safe. !!!

For all those men who take a stand against what Sahanaz has written; I have a question foryou. What is your accountability in protecting the women of our country? If a shift in your thinking doesn't take place then Indiais doomed. Rape must be a non bailable offence. Examples have to be set so that these guys do notroam the streets freely. Rape is social and emotional terrorism.

...and what kind of animal are those women who would misutilize these laws to gettheir way? Just like those who led to misutilization of anti dowry law? These mendon't only have mothers and sisters they have fathers & brothers and sons too. Letsnot portray women dropping from heaven and men from hell. Laws needs to bedrafted on balance and to ensure that no innocent is punished. I am not againststrict actions, I am simply against stupid suggestions! Why putting it on these men? What were the women doing when they were in powerpositions? Why not write it to Sonia for last 10 years?

India came up with law to curb Dowry. A strict one leading to imprisonment on reportingalong with whole family. Now Supreme Court has advised against it as it was being misutilized by women for their advantage. How would those men come out of sick feeling ofwhat they went through? The mental agony & pain? Asking for punishing for gropers canagain be misutilized by women looking for benefits. Making such statements withoutthinking of what it entails and what would be the repercussions is just not going to createsolution. It’s just noise. There are already cases where women are taking advantages and notall of them are reported just like not all the rapes are reported. Not all men deserve thebacklash of what a few did.

I am a father of a girl and yes I am afraid for what would happen to her. If I had a son, Iwould have taught him to respect women. But Yes, I would have been afraid for him too forwhat some girl could do by misutilizing the law or public sympathy which would never gohis way irrespective of his deeds.

this. A PM or some few people cannot go to all 65 million mens in country and ask them tobehave! I hope you have brain to get this thing in mind. And our target should be how tostop rape firstly and there should be minimum cases of rape. The country you are talkingabout USA if seen in % wise rape are much more when compared to any other country.Again I am saying its all problem with upbringing. If this thing is good then they will notbecome criminal but nation builders. So stop accusing all men out there and this will onlymake the good ones feel shame not the bad ones.

The Father of our nation and the world renowned Mahatma Gandhi said:“Three quarters of the miseries and misunderstandings in the world would finish ifpeople were to put on the shoes of their adversaries and understood their points ofview”.

I cannot believe how you can have the gall to call her recounting of her ownexperience idiotic. How many times have you walked in the shoes of these womenwho have to live like prey in a jungle? You are so clueless. Lets just hope for your sakethat you never have to feel like prey.

I did not supported that molesters but what I said was the law is alreadythere. If we would start giving death penalty to everyone then some peoplefrom your high society will call it Immoral prosecution and will call forhuman rights. I hope you know the reality. What I said was why can't weteach our children just as they grow up. This is called prevention isint it betterthen crime?

If you would start by not insulting someone maybe somebody mighthave the patience to read what you have to say. It doesn't help anyconversation for one side to start calling the other side idiotic.

Can you please tell when I said that the women is wrong? I questionedthe way to put the matter. I did not questioned the topic and also nother pain. I guess I didn't know how it feels but I know it would beworst of one can feel. But I dont think by saying some people "shameon you" would do everything. Laws are there but what it will do if caseare not being reported (in many cases).

Women are brought up to feel shame when they are violated and youcall her idiotic with your first statement. Then you are saying to her "I hope you have brain to get this thing inmind" who talks like that to another person in real life?"So stop accusing all men out there " do you even understand what

"So stop accusing all men out there " do you even understand whatshe is accusing all " the good men" out there about? She is accusingthem of standing idly by while women and girls are violated daily, probably hourly in the country. Surely you would agree that we shouldfeel some shame that so many women and girls may be gettingviolated by sleazy men in the land you are so proud of.

Nobody is accusing you of being sleazy, nor is she asking you to fightfor her honor but at least don't trash her heartrending tale. She isbold to fight stereotypes and all you can think of is how she mightcause good men to feel shame.

That is what I was trying to say that from the starting its upbringing ofkids not boys. A boy should be taught to give respect to EVERYONEnot only particular to opp. Sex and also to girls to speak and be giveneverything that a boy is. But can you please tell me one thing I am notquestioning her pain but I am worried about the timing today hermovie released and If this is way of publicity that most cheapest way todo so. I can say you one thing that my parents and elders have alwaystaught me to not to any one being suppressed or molested. And notme almost my whole family and relatives follow this.

The countries you compare India to at least attempt to provide protection to theirwomen.

What protection do you claim India provides to our women and girls when it letsrapists out on bail to roam free and rape as they please?

Bhavesh Patel • 11 hours ago> whomedoyou

Yeh they are trying to but is that helping? No I guess the number does not sayit. Yeh I know there is not any protection. So for this you think governmentwill put a policeman for every women? Would this be logic! Instead of writing letters to people on eve of your movie release you should goto society and ask people to teach their child which will help most.

I remember years ago when my divorce case was going on and I had taken adrink too many. my friends would always make it sure to drop me personally at home. and once when I was going to simla in my car and hadtaken a few drinks too many the pub owner asked if I needed a driver. Isaid no but he insisted and send a driver to drop me at my hotel. girlsmay be foolish but the pub owner and friends should have made sure thatgirl who was unable to stand on her legs is safely home. otherwise why even lock homes and have IPC if there are no bad people around. we should educate people not to steal. asking us to lock our homes or vehicles is infringement of our freedom.

Not impressed. Though it is a truth; Shenaz Treasurywala, you are troubled by some otherpeople and you are holding wrong persons responsible for controlling it.

You must be aware, that this is not the first year of such incidences, then why did you notsay, "Shame on you" for all the previous governments whose apathy brought down themorality of Indians? The earlier government never allowed amendments in the laws justbecause it will hurt certain castes. Are they not to be more shameful to bring our country tothis stage?

Why are you not talking anything about the illfamous Indian news media, who actuallyearn, out of such incidences? The media likes and yes; enjoys the detailing of the rape andharassment towards women so gaudily that instead of feeling guilty, the men becomecurious about the act.

In fact; you got courage to write this openly now; because you now feel that yes; somechange is possible. So it is the faith in Modi and the likes you have mentioned, causing you

....................... When a person doesn't speak we will complain about their obedienceand fear.... When a person speaks, we will ask them, "Why didn't you do itearlier?".... People have this tendency to always criticize instead of looking at thingsas a step in the right direction. You basically reflect the typical Indian mentality andit's pathetic. Also, she is speaking on a particular topic so why would she bring themedia into this letter? Why would she say "Shame on you" to the government whenshe's talking about the overall environment and mentality of society? Why should sheunnecessarily convolute the entire letter when it's better to stay focused on actualpoint that she is making........ You are one pathetic and sad individual...Seriously.People like you are holding this country down.

Dont Kill the Person responsible for it . Kill the disease so called the mindset andattitudes of the people who commit to such acts .killing a rapist does not make surethe country is safer , there are most cases of incest rapes which donot come tolimelight due to family honour yet the victim becomes mentally unstable...............its better wen we come up with the IDEA to change people and realise the preyedwomen is some one else sister , mother , or better half ...................... jus think wetherhe is a human or a mundane beast.....................

I agree... Kill the cause not the person... Bloody the cause is hanging with theman.. Chop off his part and let him live.

Its time when people should understand what respect every individualdeserves. Y is everyone arguing with each other. Better take a pledge to helpand support other people. This letter is. Surely an outburst of a girls emotion..Every girl dreams of carrying a gun and killing such people on spot. That isthe fear men have implanted in women. High time people work on theirmentality and become more human.
