America loves to love heroes. We adore them on the sports fields, in the movie theaters, on rock-and-roll stages, in the history books, from the land of business, within the political arena (sometimes); and certainly, on the battlefield.

We thrill at their feats of strength, prowess and courage. We applaud their performance and admire their success. We support them as visionary champions of our ideals. We are deeply grateful for their ultimate sacrifice. But we don’t know them.

George Bailey of fictional Bedford Falls is a quieter and more familiar kind of hero. He’s like our moms or dads, coaches, teachers, caregivers, volunteers and mentors of many types who make up the ranks of our personal heroes. These quiet heroes are guided by a sense of fairness, responsibility and integrity -- and by the need to make a modest difference in the lives of others close by. And as George comes to understand, his influence is far greater than he had ever imagined. Good thing he had his guardian angel, Clarence, to show him the way.

We owe it to our heroes to let them know how we feel. No need to wait for an angel.

B IOGR APHIES

DEBRA BABICH (Sophie et al)With the radio play version of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, Debra happily makes her return engagement with Next Act Theatre. Although Debra calls Milwaukee

home, she can often be seen on stages elsewhere, including the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, Actors Theatre of Indiana, Derby Dinner Playhouse, Music Theatre Louisville, Stage One Family Theatre, and the International Mystery Writers’ Festival (“Angie” Award Winner for Best Supporting Actress and Inductee to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels). Closer to home, Debra has appeared with Door Shakespeare, Fireside Theatre, Cedar Creek Repertory Theatre, In Tandem Theatre, First Stage Children’s Theatre and M. & W. Productions.

DAVID CECSARINI (Stan et al/Director/Foley Design)Long before his professional theatre debut, David busied himself in his basement performing radical surgery on most electronic devices.

Eventually he put down his soldering gun in favor of just twirling the knobs and has since designed sound effects and scores for over 70 professional productions. Favorite sound designs include THE VOICE OF THE PRAIRIE, THE DRESSER, LAST OF THE BOYS, MARY’S WEDDING

and MICROCRISIS. Working as a Foley artist, however, brings sound to a whole new level of fun. David has also served as Next Act’s Producing Artistic Director for nearly 21 years. He has acted in and directed many NAT productions, and has also produced a half-dozen live radio shows for past Halloween parties and Next Act fundraisers. David places full responsibility for his errant theatrical career squarely on his engineer-father’s shoulders; the man who enjoyed countless hours listening to music, singing, making goofy tapes for kids and relatives, operated a ham (oh yeah) radio, loved telling jokes in foreign accents, and bought the Longines Symphonette Society albums that taught his son about radio. Thanks, Dad.

BO JOHNSON (Bo et al)Bo’s most recent performance on the Next Act stage was as Gary Gauger in THE EXONERATED. Other Next Act credits include SIDE MAN,

DEAR ESTHER, and FALLEN ANGELS. Since performing in THE EXONERATED, Bo has had the pleasure of performing the role of Willy Wonka in First Stage Children’s Theatre’s production of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and directing a production of THE BIBLE, THE COMPLETE WORD OF GOD: ABRIDGED (which performed on the Next Act stage, thanks to the generosity of David C. and the whole Next Act staff ). Immediately after IT’S A WONDERFUL

LIFE closes, Bo will be performing in the hysterical, irreverent, musical, murder mystery, multiple ending, puppet show WHO KILLED SANTA at Carte Blanche Studios (flyers are in the lobby). He hopes you come out and see it. You won’t be disappointed.

MARY MACDONALD KERR (Judy/Mary/Writer/Adapter)IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE marks Mary’s 17th production at Next Act. Favorite roles here include Terry in SIDE MAN, Frankie in VOICE

OF THE PRAIRIE, Sylvia in SYLVIA and Grace in FAITH HEALER. Mary is also very proud of her role as director for Next Act’s productions of GOING TO ST. IVES, PURGATORIO, MERCY OF A STORM, GREETINGS and VIGIL. Mary has been a theatre artist in Milwaukee for 18 seasons, acting and directing at Milwaukee Rep, Milwaukee Chamber, Renaissance Theaterworks, Milwaukee Shakespeare and First Stage. She is an avid fan of It’s a Wonderful Life, and is truly thrilled to be involved in this production.

NORMAN MOSES (James/George)Norman Moses was most recently seen as Doc in American Folklore Theatre’s production of CHEESEH-EADS, THE MUSICAL in Door County. Favorite roles

include Harold Hill in THE MUSIC MAN at Skylight Music Theatre, Leonard Mugatti in WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM at Forward Theater, Gordon Miller (Groucho) in ROOM SERVICE at Next Act Theatre, Gabe in DINNER WITH FRIENDS at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre and Don Armado in LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST with Milwaukee Shakespeare Company. In 2010 he toured Japan for 11 weeks singing with the Tokyo Philharmonic in Disney on Classic. This spring he will be teaming up with John McGivern here at Next Act in THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP.

JACK FORBES WILSON (Jack et al/Musician)Jack Forbes Wilson was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He came to Wisconsin to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received

a Master of Music degree before moving out to Spring Green. After working at American Players Theatre for three seasons, he moved to Milwaukee, where he has worked as a pianist, singer and actor for 25 years. He has appeared in 10 shows at the Milwaukee Rep’s Stackner Cabaret, and has also performed with Madison Rep, Skylight Music Theatre and Next Act Theatre, where he has (often!) done his favorite of favorite shows, BILLY BISHOP GOES TO WAR. Jack teaches piano lessons when he is not practicing and performing.

JESSICA CONNELLY (Resident Stage Manager)This is Jessica’s 6th season as resident Stage Manager at Next Act Theatre. She is an Arizona native and honors graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Theater Department. In addition to Next Act Theatre, Jessica has worked with Renaissance Theatreworks, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Madison Repertory Theatre, The Little Theatre on the Square, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, J.M. Kohler Arts Center and The Cedarburg Performing Arts Center. Most recently she spent the summer helping rebuild Door Shakespeare. A few of her favorite project include DEAR ESTHER, MASTER HAROLD AND THE BOYS, LAST OF THE BOYS, THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, FAITH HEALER, PURGATORIO, GOING TO ST. IVES, VIGIL (Next Act Theatre), CHESAPEAKE, TROJAN WOMEN, THE SHAPE OF THINGS, and the U.S. premier of SKIN TIGHT (Renaissance Theaterworks), SANTALAND DIARIES (Marcus Center for the Performing Arts), and HAIRSPRAY (Little Theatre on the Square). Jessica would like to thank Dave, Cleo and Xander for keeping every day of her life exciting and full of joy. Jessica is a member of Actor’s Equity Association.

HEIDI BOYD (Development Director)Heidi graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota, and has since

pursued a dual career as a performer and arts administrator, having worked in Marketing and Recruiting at the Milwaukee Children’s Choir and in Development at Skylight Opera Theatre and Florentine Opera before coming to Next Act. She is thrilled to be a member of the Next Act team. Heidi is currently a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Milwaukee Choral Artists, and will appear in productions at Skylight Music Theatre and Milwaukee Opera Theatre this year. She lives in Milwaukee with her husband Joel and their cat Isis.

REBECCA MODER (Marketing & PR Manager)Helming Next Act’s market-ing since June of 2012 is returning Milwaukee area native, Becky Moder. She graduated from Three Lakes High School as valedictorian

and continued on to UW-Stevens Point to earn a degree in Arts Management with a Business Ad-ministration minor. She moved back to Milwau-kee to act as South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center’s Marketing Director, a position created specifically for her following her exemplary perfor-mance interning there. After four years with the SMPAC, Becky decided it was time to move on. Her experience wearing many hats and adapting to new tasks has given her a comprehensive tool-set of marketing skills. Above all, she believes that building relationships will always be the key to success. She is now looking forward to putting her skills and talent to work at Next Act.
