Dedicated to the Patron Saint of the Serbs, Saint SavaRegency residents are invited to tour St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, the spiritual home to a large congregation in the Milwaukee area. Designed in Serbo-Byzantine style and completed
in 1958, the cathedral’s striking interior is covered in traditional church mosaics described as some of the most elaborate in the United States. The mosaics were created in Italy by artist Sirio Tonelli, costing more than $3 million, and taking 35 years to complete. The scenes depicted in the art are instrumental in conveying Christian tradition and faith. The cathedral has become an internationally known piece of architecture.

It’s Never Too Late to Be Young at HeartThanks to members of the Kettle Moraine Chapter 5603 Harley Owners Group (HOG), Regency residents are once again ready to roll! They’ll enjoy free rides during the 12th annual “Young at Heart” Harley motorcycle ride, hosted by Regency Senior Communities and sponsored by Hal’s Harley-Davidson of New Berlin. Whether they choose to hop on behind the bikers or roar off in sidecars, residents look forward to this event every year.
The Young at Heart Senior Ride is one of the ways the chapter gives back to the community and, in particular, our Regency residents.

Plus the Beautiful Holy Jewel HomeEnjoy a drive through small towns and the beautiful countryside as we wind our way to the shores of Lake Michigan and downtown Sheboygan. Take in the stunning architecture, urban murals, and revitalized harbor of Sheboygan. Then we’ll dine at one of Wisconsin’s top restaurants, Trattoria Stefano, before heading to the
John Michael Kohler Arts Center and gardens.
After lunch, residents will visit the Rhinestone Cowboy Conservation Lab at the Kohler Center. Inspired by Glen Campbell’s 1975 hit record, Loy Bowlin of McComb, Mississippi, dubbed himself the original Rhinestone Cowboy and transformed his home into a fitting back-drop—covering the exterior and interior with rhinestones, glitter, collages, and magazine illustrations. Bowlin’s “Beautiful Holy Jewel Home: The Home of the Original Rhinestone Cowboy” lives on at the Arts Center. See parts of it, along with more of Bowlin’s artwork.

The Beaches & Islands of ThailandThousands of fantastic beaches dot the many islands that make up the Thailand coast. World travelers and adventurists Nate and Jessica Hunt describe their adventures beachside, highlighting the natural beauty of “Turtle Island,” also known as Koh Tao, picturesque Phi Phi and its perfect crescent of sand, and the limestone cliffs of Railay Beach.

Welcome, New Residents!
All About New Berlin
Ron Seidl started out as a bus boy and dish-
washer in a family restaurant when he was 14.
Two years later, he worked his way up to cook
before joining the U.S. Army where he cooked
for 1,500 soldiers. Food service has always
been his passion. “It’s really the only thing I
have ever done.”
He participates in bimonthly food committee
meetings to ensure Regency residents’ needs, tastes, special
diets, and other requests are met. Additionally, he monitors
industry trends, researches recipes and flavor profiles, and
requests resident feedback. His favorite dishes to prepare
are comfort foods—meatloaf, roast turkey, chicken and
dumplings, and seafood.
In his spare time, Ron enjoys fishing, hunting, coaching youth
basketball and baseball, and spending time with his wife and
twins. He has been an alderman for the past 10 years.
“Regency is like home to me.”

JULYEVENTSActivities open to the public are noted below. Most activities are for Regency residents only.
Ice Cream SocialTHURSDAY, AUGUST 3
THE CORNER TABLE Ice cream socials date back to the late 18th century in North America—with the first held at the White House in 1802 by Thomas Jefferson. According to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, favorite flavors of the day were strawberry, vanilla, and raspberry. Other documented flavors included apricot, coffee, tea, pistachio, Parmesan, and a cayenne-spicy chocolate. In 1824, the first American cookbook with an ice cream section contained a recipe for savory oyster ice cream—essentially a strained, frozen oyster chowder.
Always a campus favorite, our annual ice cream social has something for everyone—including musical entertainment. A sundae table with assorted toppings and ice cream flavors will be prepared and arranged by our kitchen and dining staff, who promise that no oyster ice cream will be served.
