• The Canaanites and Phonecians were Pagan (worshipping more than 1 God)

• After 2,000B.C, a people known as the Israelites moved into the region and worshipped only one God

• The religion came to be known as Judaism• Israelites rejected the gods of the Canaanites

established the first kingdom of Israel

• Persians then conquered the babylonians/allowing them to rebuild their temple

• This time the Romans took control of Judea , heavily taxed, and outlawed parts of the jewish religion.

• The Romans killed thousands of jews and destroyed their temple in 70 A.D
