Path to success The U.S. Department of Labor
projects that by 2020, there will be 1.4 million computer specialist job openings.
To reach gender parity by 2020, women must fill half of these positions, or 700,000 computing jobs.
Anecdotal data tells us that an average of 30% of those students with exposure to computer science will continue in the field.
This means that 4.6M adolescent girls will require some form of exposure to computer science education to realize gender parity in 2020

at even higher rates for women. In 2011 women with tech jobs earned 33% more pay than in non-
tech jobs There are scholarships and opportunities that are specifically
targeted to encourage women to pursue tech careers – take advantage of them !

If you have an interest in pursuing a career in technology:
Join organizations at school such as technology or robotics clubs
Take advanced computer classes to learn various software packages and gain certifications
Think of ways to create new inventions or how to improve inventions (check out Google’s annual online Science Fair)
Take graphics/art classes which could be useful in screen design and layout
Volunteer to coordinate school events and functions (to gain experience as project manager / coordinator / and practice requirements gathering)
Look for leadership opportunities in school such as Student Council – to create leadership experience
