Welcome to our faculty, which started medical education at I s t a n b u l O k a n University Tuzla Campus in 2014-2015 academic year. Our students will receive their basic science education in this well e q u i p p e d a n d fulfilled modern place throughout three years.

Though this 3 year long period from the cell to the organs, the whole body of the human will be taught in an integrated s y s t e m w h i c h includes Anatomy, H i s t o l o g y , Physiology, Medical B i o c h e m i s t r y , Medical Biology and Genetics, Medical M i c r o b i o l o g y courses .

In addition, they develop their clinical skills on models that are available in our modern simulation center. In this way, they gain experience about the procedures to be performed on the patient.

F o l l o w i n g t h i s training, our students will begin clinical c l e r k s h i p a n d internship period in our 250-bed hospital, here they will contact with the patient and receive their clinical experience starting from the 4th year. Clinical clerkship period will consist of various departments, in particular internal medicine, surgery, gyneco logy and obstetrics and child health and diseases.

In 2016, Okan University Hospital started to serve with the vision of contributing to the

establishment of health standards of the future and to be among the leading

organizations in the health sector.

The hospital has builded on a closed area of 50.000 m2 with more than 500 employees,

more than 100 faculty members and doctors. It has 250 beds capacity and intensive care

unit which serve as a fully equipped hospital.

EDUCATION IN OUR FACULTY

Integrated Education:

Based on integrated approach, the theoretical subjects are given to our students by system-based learning with

the contribution of related departments. Horizontal integration enables effective cooperation and communica-

tion between different disciplines, while vertical integration links basic and clinical sciences.

Practical Education:

Practical education is held on our well equipped multidisciplinary laboratories and the subjects are given on

the basis of the theoretical knowledge with the contribution of the related departments. After the practical lec-

tures and experiments, students are allowed to make the applications by themselves.

instead of one courses with

full quota.

Assessment: 80% attendance

is essential for Happy Life

courses. Students who fulfill

this attendance policy and get

at least 50 points out of 100 will be considered

as successful in relevant course. Students who

fail the Happy Life courses can choose any of

the Happy Life course at different periods.

Provisions regarding absenteeism are stated in

the undergraduate regulations of our university.

Compulsory Attendance

ARTICLE 19 - (1) Students of the Faculty of Medicine are obliged to receive all courses of the aca-demic year for which they are registered. It is compulsory to attend all practical and theoretical cour-ses such as laboratory, discussion, seminar, clinical studies, field studies, etc. (2) Compulsory attendance principles regarding the theoretical courses in the first, second and third

phases is applied as follows:

a) Students failing to attend more than 30% of the theoretical courses in each course committee without valid excuse are not allowed to take the exams related to such course committee in the first, second and third phases, and such students receive zero (F2) grade. b) Students failing to attend more than 30% of the theoretical courses in total in all course committees at the end of an academic year receive zero (F2) grade and are not allowed to take the final and re-sit exams.

Final, Re-sit exams and their evaluation

ARTICLE 24 –(1) A final exam covering the courses in all course committees held at the end of each phase in the first, second and third phases. The grade to be obtained from this exam recorded as the final exam grade. Students with phase grade below 60 and students whose final exam grade is FF are qualified for taking the re-sit exam.

(2) The threshold system, specified under Article 23, is applied to the final and re-sit exams.

(3) The final exam should be held minimum 15 days later from the date of the last course committee exam, and the re-sit exam should be held minimum 15 days after at the earliest from the date of the fi-nal exam.

(4) In non-committee courses, the midterm and final exams are evaluated as grade and transferred the transcript as “Passed” or “Failed”. The students should pass the mentioned lessons to be able to graduate from Faculty of Medicine.

(5) All exams are held at the in the Facul-ty of Medicine are evaluated over 100 full marks. The success score range, letter grade, coefficients and descriptions applied in assessment of exams are shown within-below table:

Course selections will start from 09/09.2019 on https://ois.okan.edu.tr/. You ha-ve to make your course selections through the system on the relevant dates. If you receive the following warning when you log in o the system, you should contact with the Financial Affairs Department.

Rules to be considered in course selection

You can select/take your normal credit limit and up to 2 additional course in one pha-se.

You must priorly select the courses that you have already taken and fail (FF / VF) or

that you have never taken.

If there is a conflict between the courses you registered for the first time or you failed

with VF, you cannot take that course. However, you can select the courses which you

got FF before and even if there is a conflict. There won’t be proceeding when conflicting

courses are notified by the decision of the Faculty Administrative Board.

In the prerequisite courses, you must successfully complete the requisite course.

CHOOSING COURSES

After completing your course selection through the system, you must submit it to the advi-

sor for approval. You can see whether your course selection is approved / disapproved by

your advisor on your course selection screen.

Advisor approval: Approved

If your advisor is not identified on the system or you see a different advisor name in your

system, you can contact with the faculty secretariat. Advisor assignments are defined by

the faculty secretariat.

If you want to ask a question about your course selection and send a message to your advi-

sor. First click “other opsions” and then click “messages” on the screet you can see below. As a last step please click “write a message”.

Quotas are determined by your faculty. If you receive a warning about your course quota,

you should contact with your advisor.

You can contact with the “Career Center” for your questions and problems about Career

and Life Courses, and you can contact with “Students Deanery” for your questions and

problems regarding Happy life lectures.

Entrepreneurship / Entrepreneurship Applications Course which

is a requisite for graduation. International students should take BA222.3 Entrepreneur-

ship Applications course.

Course descriptions are determined by your faculty. If you receive “This course has not been opened for your department”warning, you should contact with your advisor.

FACILITIES OF THE CAMPUS

LIFE CENTER

Life center include Sports Complex (Indoor Gym, Indoor Swimming Pool, Pilates and Aero-bic Studios, Sauna), Health Service (medical room with constantly working doctor and nurse), food and beverage alternatives, station-ery and grocery store. Istanbul Okan University Psychological Counseling and Education Center (OPDEM) is a unit that provides psychological counseling and guidance services to the students of our University (undergraduate, graduate, vo-cational high school).

OKAN UNIVERSITY DENTAL HOSPITAL

Our hospital, which was opened to service in Mecidiyeköy campus in 2014, has the latest technology equipments in 2500 m2 closed area. It serves in 8 different branches (Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, Endo-dontics, Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Perio-dontology, Prosthetic Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry). In October 2017, our second den-tal hospital was opened in Tuzla Evora. Tu-zla Dental Hospital, which has been estab-lished on a closed area of 8 thousand m2, has 108 dental units 5 of which are diagnostic, class A operating rooms, 3D tomography, dental laser unit, sterilization units, observa-tion rooms, laboratories, meeting and train-ing halls.

DORMITORIES

The dormitory fee includes a 5-day dinner on weekdays, free use of the fitness center and pool daily. Daily

general room cleaning is also regular. Each room includes own bathroom and WC. 24 hours hot water, inter-net connection, 16 channels TV broadcast is available. You can find Advisory Officer within 24-hour in the dormitories. In addition; doctor, nurse and ambulance provides continuous health service.

There is a study room in the dormitories where students can study easily in a quiet area. There is a laundry

and ironing room dedicated to dormitory students also there is another laundry room where they can charge for it.
