Not only did the beautiful weather have people bringing their vintage tractors, trucks, cars, stationary engines etc to Lockington & District Living Heritage Complex’ 21
st rally, but market stalls, supporters of the home grown talent con-
cert, and especially the great display of ‘Scarecrows’ had a great influence on why one should visit Lockington on April 21 and 22.

Landcare report:
Our Annual meeting was held at the Lockington Hotel on Thursday 5th April, with John Wright remaining President and Wendy Sims as Secretary/Treasurer. During the last 12 months we have been fortunate to have had a wide range of
guest speakers, Andrew Crossman - growing Avocados, Shane Weller - growing Walnuts, David Hammond - growing hemp and Faye and Andrew Bail educating us about the native flowers on their property. We have ex-panded our weather probes which can be accessed at locking-tonlc.weebly.com at any time. At our meeting Shari Ranking from the North Central Catchment Manage-ment Authority, spoke to us about her previous work in Queensland on the gas fields and later in pastoral areas covering a huge land area stretching from Normanton to Mt Isa and across towards the east coast. New members are most welcome, we meet on the second Thursday night of even months at the Lockington Hotel at 7pm, commencing with a meal prior to the meeting. This year our major project is the planting of trees along the old Elmore rail-way line, between ODonnell road and Diggora road. Come along and join us. Wendy Sims 0427 868307

150 Games LIAM MAIN CONGRATULATIONS!
As Club Secretary, Millie definitely has her hands full but she's also tak-en on the role of Netball Umpire Co-ordinator for the second year in a row and she sits on the Social Com-mittee. It's safe to say Millie loves to help out and to be involved. She also plays netball on a Saturday and is a very handy goaler.
LBU FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS
(Right) Jarod Bacon & Liam Main (Left) Millie Haines
Meet our senior football captain, Liam Main and our vice captain, Jarod Ba-con. Both are local boys who have returned to the club in recent years and have earned the respect of their team mates in being voted in as captains.
Matt Dunham So far Matt has escaped our cameras and the limelight but we finally caught up with him and what perfect timing with the news of his national Bravery Award making the papers. This is Matt's second year coaching our Under 17s boys and he has been doing a fantastic job. Will Hobbs has been help-ing him out as Assistant Coach and together they are working hard to get the best out of our juniors.
Seniors win Round 1 game against Mounts The boys came out strong Round 1 and pumped Mount Pleasant 20.11 - 131 to 9.4 - 58. Well done boys! Stone Family take to the Stone Family take to the courts
Last weekend was a huge milestone for Michelle (Shelby) Stone and her daughters, Olivia & Casey.
It was the first time all three of them have donned the LBU net-ball dress and represented the Club on the same day. Shelby played her 300th game with LBU in May 2016 and she's still going strong. Her eldest daughter Olivia plays for our 15&U netball side and Casey plays for our D Primary team. Shelby doesn't think her body will last long enough to play on the court with her daughters but we hope to see the girls carry on their mothers successful netball legacy. Fantastic effort Team Stone!
Locky local Jeremy Mundie played his 100th Senior Football match against Huntly on Saturday 23rd April. CONGRATULATIONS JEZZ on your achievement Jezza Mundie - 100 Games

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION Huge thank you to our volunteers who help out each and every week! You are the unsung heroes of this Club and we appreciate everything you do. For those that don't know, an inordinate amount of work goes into preparing the grounds, stocking the canteen sorting cash floats and a hundred other small jobs that go under the radar, just to prepare for the game Darren Keath and Will Hobbs can be seen around the grounds doing the line marking of the oval week in and week out.
Jack Oliver Jacky has been helping out wher-ever he can around the Club for many years now. Jacky can be seen at every training filling up the boys water bottles and always with a smile on his face, a cheeky comment and a kind word. It is volunteers and club members like you that make this club so very special to be a part of.

LOCKINGTON GOLF CLUB
REPORT – 23RD APRIL 2018
11/04: The ladies had their first hit for
the season, a 4-person ambrose drop off event played over 9 holes. It was terrific to have visitors from Rochester, Mitia-mo, Bamawm and Calivil, and the enjoyable day was capped off by a delicious lunch. The event proved to be a remarka-bly even contest, with 3 teams having scratch scores of 44, and the other had 45. The winners were Denise Newth (Bamawm) and 3 locals – Sue Harris, Phyll Macfarlane and Pauline Humbert - with a fine score of 44-14.5-29.5. Runners up were Chris Turner (Bamawm), Lyn Twigg (Mitiamo) and 2 locals – Jenny Holt and Annette Brereton – with a solid score of 44-13.25-30.75. Nearest the pin: Kathy Connors. A couple of days before, the Locky ladies pennant team kicked off their 2018 season in hot conditions with a 2/1 de-feat at the hands of Campaspe. Kathy Connors lost 5 and 4, Chris Turner lost 4 and 3, while Phyll Macfarlane received a walkover. 14/04: An impressive field of keen golfers turned up for Sat-urday’s stableford event, but the inclement weather meant that a number of golfers pulled out during the afternoon. Of those hardy souls who completed 18 holes, Travis Mancer was best on course with a really good score in the conditions of 34 points to win the Privilege Cup. Jason Wakefield’s sea-son got off to a good start with a solid score of 32. Next best were Tim Staley (31) and Will Hardess (29). Of those who finished 9 holes, Kevin Humbert was best with 18, followed by Tom Scurrah (17). Nearest the pins: 17th – James Hodgens; 2nd shot 12th – Mat Dennis (A Grade), Ron Dixon (B Grade), Rob Hardess (C Grade); 2nd shot 18th for the 6-pack smack – Travis Mancer. Spike’s Longest Drive on the 6th (a challenge in the condi-tions) – Kevin Humbert (A), Jeff Carnie (B), Graeme Hodgens (C). Neither the Echuca CIH eagles nest, nor Cap-tain Terry’s yardstick was won. 16/04: The Locky ladies pennant team travelled to Elmore and played the home side. In a tight contest that could have
gone either way, Elmore prevailed 2/1. Helen Hayes won her match 2 and 1, Kathy Connors lost 1-down, and Phyll Macfarlane lost 2 and 1. 18/04: The ladies enjoyed a stableford round, with Helen Hayes the star of the day, winning the Monthly Medal and B Grade honours with a fine score of 35 points. A Grade was narrowly won by Annette Brereton with 32 points, ahead of Carolyn Mitchell (31). Nearest the pin: A Grade – Sherryl Jones; B Grade – Kathy Connors. 21/04: An excellent field of 30 golfers enjoyed glorious weather and the course in terrific condition for Saturday’s stroke round at Lockington, with numbers boosted by visitors from Bamawm and Rochester. Jason Wakefield was in brilliant form to finish with a super 79-20-59 to win the Monthly Medal and B Grade. Matt Baulch was runner-up in B Grade with a solid 80- 16-64, followed by Rick Connors 85-19-66. Will Hardess was in red-hot form with 91-30-61 to romp home in C Grade. Runnerup was Tony Brooke with 100-35-65. The close finish was in A Grade, with victory to Grant Humbert (68-1-67), just ahead of Terry Thomas (77-9-68). Yardstick balls for good scores: A Grade – Stuart Newton and Kevin Humbert (both 69); B Grade – Ian Maddison (66), Warrick Holt and Jeff Carnie (both 70); C Grade – Tom Scurrah (66), Des Pentreath (70). Don Muhleisen’s excellent shot on the 3rd won him the 12 balls in the Echuca CIH eagles nest, but Captain Terry’s yardstick prize of $200 on the 16th continues to elude golfers. Upcoming events: Saturday 28th April Par. Duty – Grant Humbert, Jason Wake-field. Wednesday 2nd May Stroke. Duty – Lois Chugg, Marg Eade. Committee Meeting. Reminder to all mem-bers that subs are due by 30th April.

Lockington Bowls Club Report
16.4.2018 by Chris Stewart The Brereton sisters-in-law dominated the social Pairs on Tuesday. Bev Brereton and Annette Brereton (s)
combined to show a power of skill and defeat their opponents in merciless fashion and take home the accolades. During the week Don Isgro and Kalvin Stout met again, this time in a quar-ter final of the 21 Up Presidents trophy. This followed their recent clash in the 100 Up final where Isgor won the title in a high standard match. Once again it was Isgro that ruled supreme as he gained the initial break to beat a gallant Stout 21-14. Isgro will now meet Ken Main in the semi-final, with the winner to play Ray Hanson in the final. Stout was far from disgraced and will no doubt feature in future competitions. Several members travelled to district tournaments over the past week. Don Isgro, Ray Hanson, Russell Shawcross and Kevin Humbert enjoyed the conditions at Strahfieldsaye. Tom Davis, Alan Kauffman and Hanson jour-neyed to Mathoura for the Triples - Skins and returned home with seven pelts plus two of the four major raffles on the day. Some people have most of the luck!! On Friday evening there was another fine roll up for the barbeque and practice. The missing link in the members lucky draw was Geoff Shaw-cross.
Lockington Bowls Club Report 23.4.2018 by Chris Stewart
The women held a successful Medley Fours tournament on Tuesday at-tracting a field of 72 bowlers from City of Echuca, Moama, Rich River, Deniliquin, Dingee, Rochester, Kyabram, Colbinabbin, Elmore, Murchison plus several local members. Lady President Pauline Humbert welcomed all bowlers and acknowledged the continued support from MGR Accountants - Bendigo/Echuca/Rochester. The winning combination was the Moama team featuring Carmel Simpson, Wilma Curnow, Kristy Gillingham and Lucy Sheppard (s). In second place was another Moama rink including Karen Brennan, Deana Hogan, Lyn Rogan and Beryl Eddy (s). Special competition winners were Jenny Major, Rosemary MacIntosh, Aileen Kennedy and Pat Schram. Prizes were do-nated by Riverina Bowls. The greens staff were thanked for the excellent presentation of the greens and surrounds. On Saturday the 100 Up championship title for the ladies was decided. In a fine display of draw bowling, Lorraine Appleby proved too consistent for Leanne McInnes. Appleby was certainly on top of her game as she contin-ually thwarted any serious challenge from her opponent to win the title 100-85. Congratulations to both players on a great display of bowls and game spirit. In the mens' 100 Up championship Don Isgo is to play Ken Main with the winner to meet Ray Hanson in the final. The club Presentation evening will be held on Sunday 6th May at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm meal. (Note the change of date). Names are required to be listed for the catering. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 4th June at 8.00pm. Nomination forms are available at the club. Local CVBD bowlers represented the Bendigo/Campaspe Region at the BowlsVic State Championships during the past week. In the mens Fours the Bendigo team skipped by Ian Ross defeated Wimmera 17-14 then lost to Central Goulburn Murray 15-17. Anthony Flapper (Northern Gateway) won the final 28-6 over CGM. The women played the Triples with Susan Howes skipping. The team defeated West Coast 16-13 and were eliminat-ed by Central Victoria 10-23 in the next round. Gayle Edwards (Metro West) d. Mary Tragardh (Ovens & Murray) 13-12 in the final. The mens Singles representative John Berry (Kangaroo Flat) was defeated by Aaron Wood (Webbcona) 25-16 in the first round. Jay Bye-Norris (Essendon) d. Nathan Murray (Yarra) 25-19 to win the final. Lyn Smith was defeated by Edna Anderson 25-21 in the first round of the Champion of Champions. In a real gutsy display Smith and her opponent were level on two occaisions before Anderson picked up 7 shots over three ends to lead 19-12. Howev-er Smith made a late comeback to trail 21-22 before Anderson closed out
the game. In the final Kylie Whitehead (Ovens & Murray) d. Tristania Doo-lan (MCC) 25-21. The mens Champion of Championships provided some classic bowling. Philip Thorn (City of Echuca) d. B Lancaster (Lakes En-trance) 25-7 with some precision draw bowling. In the next round Thorn survived a torrid game against Lee Wesley (Romsey) to win 25-22 and gain a berth in the semi-final against Barrie Lester (Mulgrave C.C). Lester had just returned from the Commonwealth Games and was bowling well. The game produced several highlights as both bowlers were on song. Thorn held a small advantage in the early stages of the contest before Lester drew level at 14 all. Ends were traded as the score-line reached 21-22 in favor of Lester. Winning consecutive ends Lester was able to win the game 25-21. Lester went on to defeat Brett Mahoney (Deer Park) 25-12 and take out the title for back-to-back wins. In the womens' Singles cham-pionship Sandra Connolly (Moama) defeated Brooke Edwards (Altona) 25-20 in a fine display. In the next round Connolly was up against Carla Kri-zanic (Sunbury). Krizanic had also just returned from the C'wealth games with two gold medals. As the game unfolded Krizanic bolted out to an amazing 19-1 lead, but Connolly was not to be daunted. Displaying a ton of courage and some brilliant bowling she fought back to trail 19-23 before her opponent won the match 25-19. A great effort from Connolly. Krizanic proceeded to win the final against Robyn Thomassen (West Coast) 25-17. The mens' Pairs was contested by Lindsay Franklin - Shane Laing (Deniliquin) up against the pair from Sebastopol. In an exciting game of bowls the Deniliquin pair lost the game 16-15 after requiring an extra end to be played. The final resulted in a victory for Nathan Murray (Yarra) over Daniel Nicholls (Nagambie) 18-12. Brooke Davies and Susan Howes (s) (Kangaroo Flat) played the ladies Pairs and were eliminated by Gayle Edwards (Altona) in the first round 11-19. The final was won by L Fitzger-ald - Rebecca McMahon (City Colac) 23-14. In the mems' Triples the Carter clan - John, Simon and Dean tackled A Edwards (Lindenow) in the first round and won the contest 18-10. Round two was a game against Josh Sanders (Lilydale) and this game required an extra end to decide the winner. Carter was leading by three shots 18-15 with one end to play. Holding two shots at the head on the final end, Carter seemed to be in control. however Sanders drove the head and when the dust had settled, the Lilydale team had three shots to draw level at 18-all. Sanders won the extra end to win 19-18. In the final Sanders defeated A Flapper 17-14 to take the title. The Lilydale team included Troy Stafford who displayed ex-citing talent throughout the series. The Moama rink of S Connolly, M Rehe, M Stephenson and Melissa Roberts (s) played J Salmon (Northern Gate-way) and were defeated 17-13 in an exciting match. At times the Moama team had opportunities to score numbers, however the chances went begging and their opponents were able to take advantage. Dianne Gardi-ner (Irmyple) d. K Cheney (Orbost) 15-11 to win the title. The Mixed Pairs representatives were Margot Brennan and Apollo Birch (Moama). The pair were eliminated in the first round by S McGolgan - P Twyerould (Peninsula Casey) - previous winners 19-9. Both Birch and Brennan were valiant in defeat. The finals were still in progress with J Nadella—B Mahoney (Deer Park) versus T Brodie -B Spurr (Sandbelt) in one semi-final with M Nowosad - J Stokes (CGM) to play Jo Dehne - Jason Lunghusen (Leitchville) in the other semi-final.
