Lockington Hosts
Youth Of The Year Final.
Region 3 (Zones 4 & 5)
The Final was hosted by Lockington Lions Club in the Bush Nursing Centre and Heritage rooms. Five contestants, representing Lions Clubs in these Zones. Kelly Gould - (Echuca Lions), Teriecha Bowen - (Numurkah Lions), Olivia Dimovski - (Rochester Lions), Edith Rorke - (Lockington Lions) and Madelene Powell - (Stanhope Lions). Contestants answered their 2 impromptu questions then presented their prepared speeches. All were extremely good. Madelene had to contend with the forces of Mother Nature, as a storm rolled through, thunder and the loss of power did not interrupt her speech, many professionals would not have coped as well. After much deliberation, the winner of the Public Speaking was Kelly Gould, Echuca College, and the overall winner was Olivia Dimovski from Rochester Secondary College. Congratulations to all contestants and good luck to Olivia on the next stage. Well done Lockington Lions for an ex-cellent day.
L–R: Madelene, Olivia, Teriecha, Edith,
Kelly.

Food For Thought
John c3. V16 & 17. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlast-ing life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
CHURCH SERVICES INCLUDING EASTER
Lockington Senior
Citizens inc. This month we were very privileged to
have back with us the ‘Silent Voices’ group from Murray Human Services to entertain us. Under the leader-ship of Lisa Savage the group did a spectacular performance using their hands to mimic the recorded songs. It’s amazing to see what they CAN do. Following this one member thanked us very much for having them then we had a lovely afternoon tea together. They left with a little bag of cookies made by Joy Weller, and expressed their delight at being with us. Please note; April meeting on Tues-day, April 18 not Monday 17 due to Easter.
Heartfelt ThanksThank you to the two lovely people who picked up and took home Colin Glyn-Jones in Pannoo Road follow-ing his fall on Friday March 31. We are both so grateful, Colin and Claire.

School News.
Young Leaders Program This week James Hodgens took our grade 6 students to the Melbourne Convention Centre to be part of the Halo-gen Youth Leadership day. They attend this program to build leadership in our school and future leaders for our community. The Young Leaders Program is powered by Halogen, a company that encourages young leadership. The day was about encouraging people to get help when they need it. The hashtag was #TogetherWeCan! School Council AGM We had our school council AGM and meeting on Mon-day night. At our AGM we elected our office bearers for the year. Thank you to our school councillors who give up their time to be members of the governing body of the school. Deb Ball LCS is organising the Lockington Deb Ball this year to be held on Friday May 26th It is not just a great night for our community but a major
fundraiser for our school.
Bullying is NEVER OK Last Friday our school took a stand against bullying. All classes participated in activities that demonstrated that we don’t tol-erate bullying at LCS. The stu-dents made some terrific posters that expressed their thoughts on bullying. Victorian Prem-iers’ Reading Challenge The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Lockington Consolidated is excited to be participat-ing. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a per-sonal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2017. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certifi-cate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll. If you would like your child‘s name to ap-pear on the Honour Roll, please sign the attached form and return it to your school. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the
Tennis Well done to Bowden Stone, Jacob Haines and Mitchell Collins who competed at the Campaspe Division Tennis Competition in Echuca last week. The boys played some great tennis and enjoyed the day. Congratulations to Mitchell and Jacob who then competed in the Loddon Interschool tennis tournament at Swanhill. They both played really well and displayed excellent sportsman-ship. Mitchell will now go on to compete in Melbourne at state level next term. The school community wishes him the best of luck. Cadbury Fundraiser We had a fantastic response to our Cadbury Fundraiser and we would like to thank everyone for their support. Those families that returned their boxes and/or money by the due date went into the draw to win a 4.5kg To-blerone. Mitchell Collins drew out the winner. Congratu-lations to Michelle and Cody Baker, enjoy your prize! Soccer This week Dave Coward from the Moama Border Raid-ers Soccer Association returned to LCS to conduct some soccer skills sessions. Dave and James from the Associ-ation continued to teach the students some new and exciting soccer skills. It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to take part in these sessions and they really enjoyed learning more about the game of soccer. Thank you to Dave, James and the Boarder Raiders for making this possible. National Ride2School Day Last Friday we took part in National Ride2School Day. We would like to thank the Community Church of Lock-ington for supplying a delicious breakfast for all the stu-dents. It was very much appreciated.

MEDIA RELEASE - March 27 2017
Community Bank® Seeking Community-Minded Board Members
Lockmore Financial Services (LFS) is seeking expressions of interest for new board members. LFS, trading as the Elmore/Lockington/Rochester Community Bank®, is guided by a community board that focuses on supporting the success of our communities, working to benefit local groups, projects and events and our share-holders. Brad Drust, Chair of Lockmore Financial Services, announced expressions of interest are now being called for. “As a board we focus on making and placing company profits back into the local community and we are seeking some new members to help us with this rewarding work” said Brad this week. “We would like to talk to Elmore, Lockington, Rochester and district residents who are, most importantly, passionate about our community. Beyond that our new board members could come from all parts of our community – farmers, small business owners, retirees, residents with young families,” said Brad. Diversity on any board is important. From gender to age, from white collar to blue collar, from experienced to inexpe-rienced. Everyone can offer a different perspective, can relay concerns of a community, can offer direction and help make a community stronger. Legal, finance, marketing and communications, information technology, governance, human resources and management are all skills that would be welcomed on the Lockmore Financial Services board. In the past 13 years, we’ve returned $1.2 million back to our local communities. “When making decisions that see your own community benefit, it makes this position extremely satisfying,” said Brad. For more information or to register your interest please contact the Lockmore’s Administration/Marketing coordinator Sandra Wade on 5432 6085.

Lockington Golf Club Report of April 3, 2017
The 2017 season at the Lockington Golf Club commenced on Saturday with a 2-man ambrose (draw for partners), a good way to ease into
play after the 6-month break.
In a very close finish the winners were Ron Dixon and James Hodgens with a very fine score of 68-8.75-59.25, by just a quarter of a shot from Rob Hardess and Grant Humbert (69-9.5-59.5). In third place, just ¾ of a shot behind were the experienced combination of Don Muhleisen and Kevin Humbert (71-10.75-60.25).
Nearest the pins: 2nd shot 5th – Terry Thomas (A Grade), Barry Graham (B Grade), Don Muhleisen (C Grade); 17th – Kevin Humbert; 2nd shot 18th for the 6-pack smack – James Hodgens won it with an eagle on the 284-metre par 4, with a mighty tee shot that finished less than 2 metres from the hole, and then sunk the putt..
Spike’s Longest Drive on the 14th, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing – James Hodgens (A), Darren Carnie (B), Ron Dixon (C). Grant Humbert won the 12 balls in the Echuca CIH eagles nest on the 3rd, but Captain Terry’s
yardstick prize of $200 on the 16th wasn’t won.
On Sunday the Club held its official opening day, with the traditional Mixed American event, generously supported by visitors from Marong. Annette Brereton and Des Pentreath won the scratch event with a terrific score of 81.
Kathy and Rick Connors won the nett event with an excel-lent score of 84-23.5-60.5. Nett runners-up were Jenny and Steve Holt with a solid round of 87-22-65 (which sad-ly included an 8 and a 9). Jayden Wright won the men’s stableford event with his score of 32.
Sue Harris won both the ladies’ nearest the pins on the 7th and 17th, while Des Pentreath won the men’s on the 16th.

Lockington Bowls Club Report 27 / 03 / 2017
What a weekend of bowls around the area. Grand finals of the CVBD Pennant competition held at City of Echuca Bowling Club resulted in a feast of excel-
lent bowling for the many supporters from clubs extending from Deniliquin in the North and Elmore in the South and not forgetting Tongala to the East and Lockington far out West. A memorable moment for the Lockington Bowls Club as the division four team defeated the highly rated Moama sides 76-59 with two rinks up and returning home to the club and a sea of signage - "we did it; we did it!" and another reflecting the true feeling "Welcome home division four champions". The performance by the bowlers ended an eighteen year premiership drought for the club. With a bowling club boasting just a small membership base, it was gratifying for the team manager Les Brereton to hoist the Gordon Porch Shield high, much to the delight and enthusiasm from all players and supporters. There was plenty of incentive prior to the clash against Moama as they have defeated us twice during the sea-son. Another reason was the news that Club President Tom Davis was rushed to Epworth hospital on Thursday for urgent treatment. We trust that Davis will be out and about in the near future. In the game of the season all players performed well with the Phil Collins rink paving the way winning 37-15 in real demolition mode. Steve Peter skipped his rink to a closely contested 22-21 victory while the Ken Main four battled all day and finished up losing by six shots 17-23. (D Smith, N Bacon, L Brereton, P Collins (s) d. R Ritchie 37-15; C Stewart, G Hyden, N Haines, S Peter (s) d. R Sullivan 22-21; I Palmer, P Cunnington, B Musgrove, K Main (s) l.t. N Bulled 17-23). Celebrating into the early hours, Club Senior Vice Presi-dent Russell Shawcross congratulated the winning teams and thanked all the supporters for their strong voices dur-ing the day. A special mention was made of the members who had played during the season - Geoff Shawcross (unavailable), Kalvin Stout, Ken Gibbon and Ken Cunington (wedding). The victory belongs to all bowling
members. Congratulations to all other premiership win-ners including Moama, City of Echuca and Deniliquin RSL (twice). The CVBD was acknowledged for the special effort in programming the grand final day along with the members of the City of Echuca Bowls Club who provided excellent hospitality and meals. During the week members competed in the Bendigo Country Week of bowls. Tom Davis and Alan Kauffman played the pairs while Russell Shawcross teamed with Ray Hanson as the other pair. Shawcross and Hanson won three of the five games to just miss winning the sec-tion. The Davis - Kauffman pair run second in most games, but had a tough draw. With Davis missing for the two day Fours, Hank Janson (White Hills) was the re-placement and along with Shawcross, Kauffman and Hanson, the team drew the first game with the Matt Flap-per rink 13 all then proceeded to win game two 20-8 and game three 26-10 to be leading the section on day one. However "the wheels started to wobble" on day two and they lost game four 11-18 and the final game 15-16. The game four result was intriguing as the team was trailing by seven shots on the final end and holding seven shots before the opposition skipper drew the absolute. The two leading teams in the section advanced to the finals. In club competitions Graeme Turner defeated Bill Musgrove in a round of the 100 Up competition 100-91. The B Grade championship is nearing completion as Ken Cunnington defeated Les Brereton 25-21 in a closely fought out semi-final. Cunnington will meet the winner of the Ken Gibbon - Geoff Shawcross semi-final for the 2016/2017 title. The women played Triples in the weekly social bowls on Tuesday. Carmel White was in brilliant form to lead the winning team of Annie Haines and Kath Palmer (s) to a runaway victory with daylight second. On Friday the women will hold the annual Medley Fours tournament starting at 10.00am. Contact Kath Palmer 5486 2314 for entries. The Toyota Open Fours will be held on Saturday 1st April commencing at 10.00am - "note time change". Chris Stewart will accept entries on 5486 2607. The field is limited to 22 teams, so early entries are en-couraged.

Lockington Bowls Club Report 03 / 04 / 2017
Following the historic premiership victory by the division four squad last week, the club is still alive and active staging a Ladies Medley Fours on Friday then backing up with the Echuca Toyota Open Fours on the Saturday.
What a week for the women who had the chore of supply-ing meals for both days of competition. Well done. Visitors attended the twin tournaments from Calivil, Gold-en Square, Dingee, Elmore, Strathfieldsaye, Ky Valley View, Inglewood, Kyabram, Rochester Moama, Mathoura, Rich River, Murchison, City of Echuca plus the many local members. On Friday the women held the annual Medley Fours event supported by Mulqueen, Griffin & Rogers - Certified Ac-countants, Bendigo & Echuca. At the completion of play the outright winners were Lois Barbary, Lorna Jones, Bev Carra and Kath Wastell from Moama. In second place was the Mathoura team comprising Marilyn Murphy, Kate Mc Cormick, Jenny Chalmers and Beryl Murray. The spe-cial competition winners included Helen Whosat from Murchison and Kerryn Evans from City of Echuca. Lady President Pauline Humbert thanked the sponsors and bowlers for their support and congratulated Tournament Secretary Kath Palmer on a successful year. At the Echuca Toyota Open Fours on the Saturday a quality field of bowlers enjoyed the wonderful conditions on offer plus the excellent meals provided by the ladies. As one bowler commented "a brilliant effort from all con-cerned". On the greens, bowlers played four games of ten ends resulting in a high standard of excellence with no four games winners. A composite team of Tom Davis, Alan Kauffman, Bob Bartlett and Stuart Sutton (s) from Lockington, Rochester & Moama stepped into the winners
circle winning three and a half games to total 94 points and collect the major prizes. In the battle for the runners up trophies another composite team of Paul Kearney, Ron Bentley, Bill Toll, Joe Murphy (s) from Mathoura, Rich Riv-er and City of Echuca scored 84 points to edge out Kalvin Stout, Rob Barrett, Jill Barrett and Max Bidgood (s) - Lockington, Rich River & Ky Valley View to third. Greg Clymo, Les Brereton, Frank Chugg and Neil Haines (s) from Lockington & City of Echuca rotated the skippers per game and won three games and scored 81 points. Spe-cial competition winners were teammates Brian Jones and Tim Quinlan with Alan Kauffman claiming the third prize. Club President Tom Davis and Tournament Secre-tary Chris Stewart thanked all for their attendance plus the generosity of Echuca Toyota for their continued suport. Stewart also thanked the four bowlers who made up the emergency team on Saturday morning at 9.45am. To Leanne McInnes, Annie Haines, Annette Brereton, Norm Bacon and Phil Collins (19th man), many thanks. Green keeper Ian Johnson was acknowledged for his super ef-fort in preparing the greens. Last Tuesday the women played Pairs at the weekly so-cial bowls. After a gruelling five end play-off, the pairing of Annie Haines and Margaret Davis (s) reigned supreme defeating the luckless pair Ann Lowrie and Lesla Maslen (s). The annual Presentation evening will be held on Friday 28th April starting at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm meal. Names are required on the list at the clubhouse for catering pur-poses. Noticed on the week-end, the Kangaroo Flat Bowing Club held their major two-bowl Triples event attracting a capac-ity field. The winning team was Brian Davie, Jim Brennan and Kevin Brennan (s) from Moama scoring 4 wins plus 40 shots and win from Brian Griffin (Bendigo East) 4 wins plus 39 shots. Another Moama team of Les Saunderson, Peter Hall and Matt Liverton (s) lost the second game but won all others to just miss the placings.
