return to Alexandra Gardens again to bring you five hours of free entertainment from our Main Stage,

an opportunity to try out a new sport in the Beyond Blue Sporting Precinct, cheer on the furry children

on show at our famous Dog Show and connect with our partners, sponsors, community groups and

stallholders. Food and drinks available onsite so come along for our annual party in the park - there's

Let me take this opportunity to wish all members a happy new year as

Georgina is away enjoying a much deserved holiday I present this report. By

the time you read this we will all be recovering from too much over-eating of

Christmas and New Year and looking forward to what 2015 has in store for us.

2015 starts off as a busy time for members of GV Pride with Midsumma

Festival in Melbourne starting on the 18th of January with the Carnival day -

this is an awesome day and I urge members to go and enjoy the atmosphere of

the day. There is also the Pride March on the 1st of February and other

smaller events on until the end of the festival on the 8th of February. (P.T.O)

our 10th birthday celebrations for later in the year with a small committee doing the bulk of the

planning.

The committee of GV Pride is also working on many new and exciting ideas to help promote GV Pride

as well as activities for the members to enjoy in 2015.

a long standing highlight of the festival and attracts an enthusiastic loyal

crowd. Assemble 9.30am Sun 8 Mar, Parade at 10.30am.

CELEBRATE - All the fun of the super fair @ Carnival Day (NOTE:

there is a $25pp entry fee) – it’s Carnival time at ChillOut. Wander

through the market, enjoy great local food and wine. There’s music,

entertainment and activities galore with a few surprises here and there.

Celebrate in the park from 11.30am until 6pm. See you there!

Loving Repeating - A lavish gay and lesbian musical dripping with sensuality and beauty Loving Repeating explores the subversive world of Gertrude Stein: her capricious love affair with

Stein from her student days in the late 19th century to the height of her artistic era in Paris and beyond.

HUME PHOENIX – ROCK CLIMBING on 18 Jan & MONTHLY DINNER on 23 Jan

Hume Phoenix started during the mid 1990’s and was formed from 2 smaller local

support groups under the guide of Albury Community Health. It grew into a large

group that covered a lot of Southern NSW and North East Victoria. Hume Phoenix

has a history of being a social group as well as supporting the rights for the gay &

sex marriage (Proposition 8). The film also follows the plaintiffs, two gay couples who find their

families at the center of the same-sex marriage controversy. It also profiles the unlikely pairing of the

men who spearheaded the Perry vs S: Ted Olson and David Boies, political foes who last faced off as

opposing attorneys in Bush v. Gore. Five years in the making, this is the story of how they took the first

federal marriage equality lawsuit to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Sidney Myer Fund / Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia

Grant round announcement

The Sidney Myer Fund and the GALFA Board of Directors are pleased to announce our second joint

funding round, as part of the Sidney Myer Fund Poverty and Disadvantage Small Grants Program, to

the value of $15,000.

The aim of this grant is for projects that create and implement strategies for LGBTI ageing well. These

can be in one or more of the following areas:

- physical and/or emotional wellbeing

- independent living

- inter-generational support

Preferred projects would be nationally-applicable and take the form of either community development,

education initiatives, events, or applied community-led research.

Applicants are to submit an expression of interest by email to GALFA using the appropriate form by

Sunday 1st March 2015. Those short listed will then be advised by late March asked to submit a full

application using the Sidney Myer Fund online system by 30th April 2015.

You’ll have noticed this newsletter is only 10 pages long – and there’s a good reason for that! We used to pack pages and

pages of info into our newsletters, and we’d be lucky if we got them out to you every 3 months! (Doing these newsletters is

actually a pretty big job!) We’ve changed our style & will now be sending you monthly newsletters (as much as is

practically possible) no more than 10 pages long – we’ll also be updating both our website (gvpride.org) and Facebook page

(facebook.com/gvprideshepparton) for those of you who like to do it online. Let us know what you think!
