Dear Parents and Carers, Well we all made it to the end of the term, thanks to a lot of hard work by a focussed and dedicated staff who have had such wonderful support from the amazing families here at Nulkaba. Can I please remind you that if you have any issues at all, please come in and talk to us. I know invoices for funds owed have been sent out to you. If you have any concerns with these fees or some assistance is required, please come and have a chat to me. We are here to help and support. Parent Interviews A massive thank you to the office staff for organising and supporting both teachers and parents to be able to hold face to face interviews in this current climate. All interactions I have had, have been very positive and both parents and teachers have been very happy with the process. If for some reason you have not been able to make the interview session, please contact the office and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Projects All new projects are well on their way and students are working hard on their goals and achieving excellent learning outcomes. This project crosses two terms. RATS Readers Over the last couple of years we have seen a bit of a decline in the number of students who are participating in our 'Read Aloud to Someone' program. All students are given a yellow book where they record their reading. They can use and change books within the classroom or choose something from home that interests them. The goal is to read every night. This week I had three reward lunches with Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. The students who had read 25 or more books had a Hot Chips lunch with me. We have had a lot of fun. We will be offering a special lunch with me again next term so it is not too late to get involved. P&C The COVID-19 virus saw the P&C having to postpone the School Fair and to now cancel the School Ball also. Very disappointing but we are still hopeful that we may be able to hold the Fair. The P&C have organised their annual Pie Drive and I hope many of you have supported this as again not easy to organise events in this climate. We have been looking at the things that still require some financial support around the school to see what we can do together. Nearly at Nulkaba Finally we can start our Nearly at Nulkaba. This will commence in Week 1 next term. So it is extremely important that we know who is coming to Nulkaba in 2021. If you know of anyone with a child who can come in 2021, can you please pass the information on to them. Even if you or your friend are not sure if children are ready, they are more than welcome to come to Nearly at Nulkaba. We are looking forward to meeting these new students. Updates Finally a bit of an update as to where we are currently. At this moment we are still required to keep parents off site as much as possible and to make sure social distancing and good hygiene practices continue within our school and classrooms. Evaluation of these guidelines will happen again after Week 3 next term, where we may be able to add in N ULKABA N EWS Nulkaba Public School 5 O’Connors Road NULKABA NSW 2325 Phone: 4990 1805 Email: [email protected] Web: nulkaba-p.schools.nsw.gov.au Issue 161: 2020 Term 2 Week 10 Friday, 3 July 2020

Class KF KF have been working hard at making “Thumbs Up Choices”.

We love Literacy and Math groups where we get to rotate

through the activities with our friends.

KF work hard and then we give our brains a break by doing

“Go Noodles”.

We love listening to Fairy Tales for our project “Once Upon

a Time at Nulkaba”.

KF can’t wait for Beanie Day on Friday to finish off Term 2.

Class 2W What a delight it is to have the lovely 2W students back in the classroom. We have been very busy catching up with our

friends and our school work since our return. We are so proud and thankful to all our parents, carers and family members

who did such a wonderful job supporting us at home during the COVID-19 interruptions.

It has been a busy six weeks starting with our STEM Challenges project launch. Our Project is titled “Once Upon a Time at

Nulkaba”. We have divided ourselves into four groups each performing a different fairy tale. We have “The Three Billy

Goats Gruff”, “Hansel and Gretel”, “Rumpelstiltskin” and “Jack and the Beanstalk”. The children have been excitedly

practising their lines and painting their settings. We looked forward to performing at the end of Week 10 with 1PW as our

audience.

This term we have adapted to the many changes including Zoom assemblies, daily temperature checks and the absence

of bubblers. A highlight for this term has been the hot chip lunches for our avid readers. We hope we have many more

students enjoying this treat for Term 3.

On Fridays we enjoy our film making sessions with Mrs Anderson. We have learnt how to create stop motion videos and

use a green screen and background music to enhance the quality.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 3.

Class 4W Wow! What a term it has been for everyone. I am so proud of the

achievements that all students have made this term at school and at

home.

We have launched a new project, made new friends through the

Penpal program, created beautiful artworks and had fun during our

everyday classroom activities.

I can't wait to see what Term 3 will bring for 4W!

Class 4/5Z This term we had a project launch about sea creatures and the war on coastlines. Since this has started we have written an information report on an endangered animal such as the manatee, African penguin and porpoise. We create an art work on this subject to present with our information report. The Year 5’s also wrote an information report on a submarine or ship in wartime.

In Maths, we have been learning a lot about BIDMAS, standing for (brackets, integers, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction). We have also have been doing the bus stop strategy in division. We have been doing a lot of angles with Miss Johns.

Our newspaper challenges have focused on essential workers, music and people.

In Literacy, we have been writing a lot of limerick poems in spelling. We are improving our spelling with a weekly game of Big Mama.

In Technology, we have been learning a little about the green screen. We also sent a reading to the preschool. We have been learning about a lot of different film making techniques such as angles and characters. - by Lachlan

In 4/5Z we have been doing a lot of art including some war art of a solider on an ANZAC background. Since our Year 4 project is about the ocean, we have also been researching an endangered species that we are doing an information report about.

This term we have been doing information reports with the lovely Miss Alston. Year 5 have been doing one on a battle ship or a submarine while Year 4 have chosen an endangered animal to write about. As well as this, we have been doing creative writing about three pictures and we are publishing one of them.

With Mrs Johns, we have been doing drama about fairy tales such as the “Three Little Pigs”, “Goldilocks” and the “Three Bears”. We are going to film a news report based on our chosen fairy tale.

In sport we have been doing rotating activities for 30 minutes each. In this time we do skipping, soccer and dancing. - by Liam

Library Book Returns Thank you to all those who have been able to return some

of the many overdue library items this week. We have a lot

of items that were borrowed before the start of at-home

learning which means the overdue period is now a matter of

months rather than days. If you are unable to locate any

overdue books, please let Mrs Morris know – all that is asked

is that parent or caregiver confirmation is received to say

an item cannot be located. The item can then be removed

from a student’s name.
