Mr V’s news...We have entered the fi nal week of Term 2 and therefore the halfway point of the school year. I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all once again for the support and understanding that has been aff orded to us throughout what could only be described as a highly memorable school Term!

Last week, I was informed that Mrs Jenny Waller will be leaving Warialda Public School at the conclusion of Term 3. The Waller family will be relocating to Gunnedah at this time. Whilst we wish them all the very best for this exciting move, we are terribly sad to be losing such an outstanding teacher and beautiful person. In her place, Mrs Lisa Campbell will take the reins of 3/4W for the fi nal term of 2020.

On Friday, we hosted a belated Cross Country event, right here on our school grounds. The course was well-planned and presented plenty of challenges for our runners. One of the more impressive aspects of the events was certainly the school spirit on display with students genuine in their encouragement of their peers. Congratulations is extended to our Age Champions: Sallisah Stokes, Ziggy Hall, Arlia Cleal, Hugo Barwick, Jade Rowan, Cooper Meader, Holly Whalan, Maison Cory, Indika Gallen, Max Barwick, Ellie Michel & Os van Velthuizen.

Recently, our students have been participating in a novelty pentathlon during their lunch breaks. There have been fi ve events – all intended to challenge students in a variety of disciplines. The event wrapped up last week and I wish to congratulate all 167 students who participated and thank them for their amazing eff orts. The winners were: Cate Barnett (Kindergarten), Kash Hall (Year 1 & 2), Kingston Hall (Year 3 & 4), and Indika Gallen (Year 5 & 6).

We are delighted to announce that our annual school photo day has been offi cially rescheduled to take place on Wednesday the 21st of October. As ordering details become available, these will be shared with our school community.

This Friday, our students will participate in our annual Superhero Day. It is always a wonderful occasion with all proceeds being forwarded to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. Our students are asked to donate $5 to this cause. Please be reminded that all students will be provided with a Super Burger and drink on Friday. Our canteen will not be open on Friday so students should bring a snack for recess.

Our teachers have been diligently writing Semester One report cards. As we have previously advised, these reports will be quite diff erent to reports that have been issued previously. The most notable diff erence is that the A to E grading scale will not be present. Rather, teachers have provided comprehensive comments on the learning that has taken place in Literacy and Numeracy. In addition to these two comments, each child will receive a comment on their general approach to schooling. Whilst there are no offi cial parent / teacher interviews in Semester 1, parents are most welcome to reach out to their child’s teacher where necessary. Parents will receive these reports this Friday. Finally, may I remind our school community that digital devices such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones and other devices should only be brought to school if permission is sought directly from the school and that such a device is only to be used for educational purposes (or another reason as approved by the Principal). This position is consistent with Warialda Public School’s Student Use of Digital Devices and Online Services Procedure.

Have a terrifi c week.

Dan van Velthuizen - Principal
