Welcome and congratulations! You have chosen to study
at Australias rst and best University and this Orientation
Program will help you to make the best possible start here at
the University of Sydney.
Our Program Guide tells you everything you need to know
about the Orientation Program. Please take some time to
read it carefully so that you do not miss out on any of the
informative presentations about the many resources, studentservices and activities available to you on this campus.
We are oering you two full days of Orientation, starting
with the Vice-Chancellors Welcome in the Great Hall. After
the Vice-Chancellors Welcome, Morning Tea will be served
in the Main Quadrangle.
Presentations after morning tea will be in the Eastern
Avenue Auditorium for postgraduate students and the
Eastern Avenue Lecture Theatre for undergraduate students
on Monday and in the Eastern Avenue Auditorium for all
students on Tuesday.
Our Welcome Lunch will be on Level 4, Wentworth Building
on Wednesday 21 July. Morning Tea on Thursday
22 July will also be on Level 4, Wentworth Building.
PLEASE COME TO ALL SESSIONS ON BOTH DAyS OFORIENTATION.
You can nd out what the dierent information sessions are
about by reading the Program Notes on pages 2-5 of this
Guide and checking the schedule of sessions on pages 6-7,
showing times and venues, to help you get organised.
In addition to information sessions, we have organised some
fun activities for you during the Orientation period. Have a
look at pages 8-12 of this Guide to nd out whats happening
and when. Tickets for social activities will be on sale dur ing
the Orientation.
The University of Sydney has many student organisations
and student societies on campus. You can meet new
friends and get involved in interesting activities through
student organizations, clubs and sporting activities. Visit
the Information Fair on Level 4, Wentworth Building during
lunch and morning tea, and nd out more about the dierent
activities on oer. You can also enter draws for some great
prizes at the STA Travel information stall and the Colourful
Trips information stall.
Student Volunteers in lime green T-shirts will be on hand
during Orientation to help you nd your way. They will be
happy to answer any questions you may have about the
Orientation and about the campus. You can also ask for
help or information from International Student Support Unit
(ISSU) sta who will be present at Orientation sessions and
at the ISSU Information Stall on Level 4, Wentworth Building.

After morning tea on Wednesday, sessions for postgraduate
students will be held in the Eastern Avenue Auditorium.

Making the transition from your familiar culture and
environment to a new and unfamiliar setting can be dicult
and uncomfortable. This session aims to make the transition
process as easy and painless as possible. You will also nd
out about the dierent student services available to help and
support you.
GETTING THE MOST FROM yOUR HEALTH INSURER OSHC WORLDCARE
Find out more about your Overseas Student Health Cover -
what does it cover, how can you claim refunds for medical
services you have received, and how to renew your cover
at the right time. Remember, valid OSHC is a condition
of your student visa. The OSHC Worldcare on-campus
representative will be on Level 4 Wentworth to answer your
questions.

GETTING AROUND SyDNEySyDNEy BUSES
Sydney Buses sta will give you useful information about

ISSU Volunteers will be running guided tours of the Campus
on Thursday. At 12 noon on Friday, join our iSPOC Volunteers
on a guided tour of our nearest shopping complex, the
Broadway Shopping Centre, which has supermarkets,
boutique shops, food outlets and a Hoyts Cinema Complex.
Tours of Sports Facilities and the University Museums and
Art Gallery wil l be running on Thursday and Friday. See pages
8-10 for details of times and meeting points for all tours.
GUIDED CAMPUS TOURS
Student volunteer guides will take you around the campus
on a walking tour visiting places that are interesting and
important for you to know about. Find out where to get the
best coee on campus, where to nd services that can help
you and where to meet with friends for a relaxing drink after

The International Point of Contact Volunteer Program
(iSPOC) aims to welcome International Students to The

where to get cheap groceries, furniture and any other items
you may need during your time in Australia. The Tour will be
led by a friendly iSPOC Volunteer.

UNIVERSITy MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERy TOURS
Explore the Universitys museums and Art Gallery with an
experienced guide.
The University of Sydney has two museums and an Art
Gallery. The Nicholson Museum is Australias largest
collection of ancient antiquities. Located in the southern end
of the Main Quadrangle Building, the Nicholson Museum has
permanent displays of archaeological artefacts from Egypt,
the Near East, Greece, Italy and Cyprus. Come face to face
with Egyptian mummies, Greek gods, and Roman emperors!
The Macleay Museum is a museum of Natural History.
It has a unique and fascinating collection of insects, birds,
mammals, corals, marine invertebrates and an ethnographic
collection of 6000 objects from Australia and the
Pacic Region.
The Herman Black Art Gallery contains over 2000 worksof art including high quality examples of Australian art,
Japanese prints, old master drawings and a nineteenth
century colonial collection of European works.

DAILy ARRIVAL INFORMATION SESSIONS (DAIS)
These sessions provide essential start-up information for
newly arrived students, including information about how to
open a bank account, how to obtain your Overseas Student
Health Cover card, seeking medical help, visa regulations,
opening a bank account, enrolment procedures, resources on
campus, staying safe and adjusting to your new environment.
If you have not been to a DAIS session yet, we strongly
encourage you to attend. These sessions will continue to be
held every day until the end of the second week of semester.

ACCOMMODATION OFFICER INFORMATION SESSIONS
Looking for a place to live? Come to an Accommodation
Ocer Information Session and nd out about the best
way to look for rental accommodation, your rights and
responsibilities as a tenant, information about the kinds
of rental accommodation available, what to look out for
when you are inspecting a place you may want to rent andmuch more. Once you have been to an Accommodation
Ocer Information Session you can also make an individual
appointment to meet with the Accommodation Ocer, who
