Collaborative Writing Task
• Working together asynchronously with your teammates around the world and synchronously with your peers in your own country,
• Synthesize key ideas from “Digital, Global Learning” and Flattening Classrooms, Engaging Minds ch. 1
• Add ideas and perspectives of your own, and• Collaboratively compose an email message to send
to ISSN educators encouraging them to participate in the Flat Classroom Book Club.
How the Simulation will Work
• We will simulate 2 “class days” – one for synthesizing ideas from the readings, another for co-writing the email to ISSN educators
• Each “day” you will have 3 minutes of “class time” to write on the Google Doc and talk with your F2F “classmates” about your ideas
How the Simulation will Work
• You may only communicate with “students in the other countries” via the Google Doc
• Synchronously: use the chat feature– Click the small arrow at top right next to “# other users”– Type in the box at bottom right to chat
• Asynchronously: use the comment feature– Place cursor or highlight what you want to comment on– Pull down the menu under “Insert” at top left– Click “Comment” > sticky note appears in right margin– Type in the sticky note and click “Comment”
Simulation Step 2: Contribute
• Synthesize key ideas from the two assigned readings in your team’s section of the Google doc
• Focus on the the information in your assigned sections of the reading
• Feel free to change or add to what your teammate has written before you
• While waiting for your “next class” to begin, you can do “homework” by visiting flatclassroomproject.net and flatclassroombook.com to learn more
Simulation Step 3: Co-create
• Collaboratively compose an email encouraging an ISSN educator to join the Flat Classroom Book Club
• Start by reading what’s already been written• Feel free to change or add to what others have
written before you• You may want to copy and paste from the synthesis
work you and others did in Step 2• Feel free to talk with your F2F “classmates” as you
collaboratively write the email
