From the files of UFO CANADA

DATE: November 6th, 1957 TIHE: 9 P .i·1. (local time) LOGliTION: Lake Baskatong , Quebec

A Mr . Jacobsen .:tnd three friends were at a huntine lodge on Lake Baska -tong, when one of the men, returning fro~ the outhouse reported the presence of a strange object outsideo 'I'he men in the lodge laur-hed it off, untH they sm·1 it, themselveso

To the southeast a brilliantly luminous yello"'Jish - white sphere, considerably smaller than the moon. The sky was overcast; the object was beneRth the cloudso The o~ject then fanned out conical beams of light from top to bottom. It hung motionless in the sky, without changing its appearence.

The men then discovered that there was no longer any reception on the radio,

'which they had been listening too One of the men , an electronics worker, had a portable short-wave radio which also l<m.s useless(not even the government time signal came through)o But on one frequency, a very strong signal was coming through. It was a rapidly modulated signal tone, somewhat like the Morse code - but this wasn•t the Horse code, commented one of the meno

After 15 minutes, the object began to rise into the clouds and disappearo Shor.tly afterwards the radio began functioning normallyo

'arch 6t~-J , !llarked the peak point of t~~ mnntn w~€re some ?5 reports were received from Ontarioo However, the ma,)ori.t:y of these reports were misidentifications of nat.urn l phenomena.

fJr. Allan Halliday of the National !iesearch Council in ottawa) was quoted in many newspapers across Ontario, that a bright meteor was visible in southern On~ ario at approximately 8:00 porn. Hany of the descriptions from that date resembled the characteristics of a meteor/or fireball.

Anotber possible explanation for the '.arch 6th r eports , was made by Chris Rogers, a graduate student at Toronto University - ryunlop Observatory. Rogers said a phenomenon known as 'fireballs ' ; a huge chunk of rock which enters the earth's atmosphere and can come within 50 kilo--meters of the surface - this phenomena can not be predictedo

However, there were several UFO reports recorded on the 6th, along with the other UFO reports-still under investigation.
