The community of villages that fall under the Umgungundlovu Traditional Authority in the Xholobeni administration area, Bizana, is divided overproposed mining and the building of the N2 Wild Coast toll road. A meeting where residents could air their grievances was held at Umgungundlovulast Thursday. Adding fuel to the fire, was the fact that mining specialists, environmentalists and mineral resources portfolio committee members, who were expected to attend the meeting did not show up. Itwas claimed that the lights did not complywith South African aviation standards. The department denied that, maintaining

that they did meet the standards. The DA in the Eastern Cape legislature also

demanded clarity from Transport MEC Wez-iwe Tikana about the status of the lights.Airport manager Anderson Maduneni con-

firmed that the contractorwas back on site aft-erameetingby thecontractor, thenationalDe-partment of Transport and the province in thelast three weeks.“The contractor is on the site as we speak

and I’m sure the lights will be finished beforethe launch in October,” Maduneni said.He agreed that the runway lights were not

up to standard because some of the existing

lights had been installed for emergency pur-poses because of the rush during the funeralof former president Nelson Mandela.“Now they are upgrading them so that we

will have a fully equipped airport that willmeet the required standards.”Hesaidalmostall theupgradesat theairport

date, monitor and respond topublic servicede-liveryconcerns in the context of publicpartici-pation.He also met key stakeholders such as the

mayor, councillors, members of the businesscommunity and ratepayers. He visited all projects inMthatha, including

presidential projects which are in progress inKSD, the water treatment plant, the Thornhillraw water plant and substation, the R61 road

Bavele bavukela ekuphakamiseni iziph-anga

Uyazi akubukeki kanjani ukubona abantuabadala bentlithana ngathi ngabantwana. Wewere driving our Turu-turu to a businessmeeting in Qumbu when we saw two stoutwomen in a fierce fight over a chicken. Awu,Madoda! Bothin abantwana babo xa bengabo-na lo mbono woomama abatsalalana ngee-lokhwe de kucace kwakuvela nezinye iinda-wo esingafuni kuzibiza ngamagama. Izinto kema-old lady xa zonakele zilungiswa ngomlo-mo hayi ukuxhwithana okwabantwana if notiinkukhu. It’s worse ke yinkukhu nale nilwangayo kuba omnye ufike wathatha eyomnyeenkulu ebesele eyikhethile. Come on beauti-ful women, what we were watching was noton.

I think there is somethingwrong in thehan-dling of state vehicles

Perhaps someone will assist us in this re-gard and daai ding isiphatha kakubi because

we contribute to the buying of these govern-ment vehicles. We just want to ask who is notdoing his or her job correctly among the man-agers employed by the government to monitorthe vehicles and reckless driving by the driv-ers. For instance we have been using this Tu-ru-turu which we were given by our companysince 2008 and you cannot believe that becauseof its condition and the way we treat it. At thebeginning of this year, we attended a ceremo-ny where the superiors of this department of-ficially handed over new vehicles to make theofficials’ work easier. But all of those cars zi-gugile ngathi zizikoro-koro zakudala ezinyezitshayisiwe ikhona yona i-bakkie esayithan-da kakukhulu i-Legend kodwa ndikuxelelangoku ukuba imanxeba-nxeba kukutshayis-wa de kwaphuma ne-window. Kanti kuthenizaphathwa kakubi kangaka iimoto zethu ninimadoda? Uyazi ke sinixilele kubalulekile uku-ba into nokuba ngeye-company or ekarhulu-mente mara funda ukuyiphatha kakuhle ku-ba uyongakwazi ukuphatha eyakho sele

ukhokhela eyakho i-company. Noko madodamazingaphathwa kakubi kanje izithuthi zik-arhulumente. Nani nina nibekekelwe ukulon-doloza ezi moto ngathi niyaqinisa kuyekweukudlalisa ngeezimali zethu siyarhafa kwelilizwe.

They don’t need sport wearAs we drove our Turu-turu all over Express

land we were impressed with three womenwho were doing roadwork in Nelson MandelaDrive. We normally used to see them rightnext to Enkululekweni and they wore theirlong skirts while they were doing their gym.Thumbs up ladies of the soil, you show us thatyou can do roadwork without wearing sportwear.

Ayibukeki into yokuphapha komntuomdala

Kukho into ethi learn from the best but ifthat best is fumbling it confuses the one whowanted to learn from the best. We were in one

of the restaurants in UTA when an old man,who was older even than Gesh’s father, en-tered. The man was speaking loudly but ke wedid not take that as a serious matter kubaumntu omdala ebezidywedela nje. Kuyacacaukuba umntu omdala lo akanazo ii-table man-ners kuba nako eyokubamba enye indodaibisitya entloko eyibuza ngokunqaba kwayo.Phantse wasibonisa kakubi ke lo mkhulu ku-ba akukho mntu angayaziyo ukuba indoda ay-ibanjwa entloko yenye ngaphandle komkayo.Ebecaphuka nyhani omnye lo esonyanya lento yenziwa leli khehle kanti futhi alimaziqha belimfanisa kodwa laba selimphgathileentloko limphamzamisa esitya. Asiwafuni keamadoda amadala ase aziphathe okwabant-wana nabantwana abangaqeqeshekanga. Si-yabulela mfethu ngokubamba i-coolness yak-ho nangona nje bekubonakala ukuba ikuca-phukisile le yenziwe yile ndoda and ayixolisinokuxolisa yakubona ukuba akunguye lomntu ibicinga nguye. Makuhlonitshwe nininibadale bafunde okulungileyo abantwana.
