Giving users the best experience on the web!

For Google the big picture is giving users the best experience on the web. From online searches, web browsing, and email hosting the goal has remained the same, to create technology that works intuitively together so you can always access the same information anywhere and share with anyone.2

GoogleGoogles Origins

Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University in the late 90s. Together they created a search engine originally called BackRub. From BackRub, Google was born. The name Google, is a play on the word googol, the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. Google Inc. was born in 1998, when Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wrote a check for $100,000 to that entitywhich until then didnt exist. (Google)3

Eric Schmidt has been CEO and is now Executive Chairman at Google since 2001. During that time Schmidt focused on building the corporate infrastructure needed to maintain Google's rapid growth as a company (The Wall Street Journal). Co-founder Larry Page, the original CEO of Google has now assumed the position again leading the charge on projects such as connecting whole cities to the Internet through fiber optic cables (Business Insider).

The Google Ecosystem is comprised by several applications with the goal of being accessible from anywhere at any time. Lets take a look at a few apps that has kept Google at the top of its game.5

With the goal of being the perfect search engine that understands what you mean and gives you back exactly what you want (Google). Googles search engine is accessed by over 12.4 billion (comScore) users monthly. Google achieves this by making their search experience as easy as possible for anyone to find the information you need to get things done.6

GoogleGoogle Mail (Gmail)

Sorts out what is important to you.

Offers tools to help you unsubscribe from unwanted mail email lists.

As of 2012 the worlds largest email provider beating Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL with over 425 Million users.

Googles Gmail email client has surpassed all of its competitors by providing options that improves the user experience by sorting emails that is considered priority and offering tools that help you unsubscribe from those unwanted mailing lists you receive via email (Smith). 7

As of 2013 the Chrome browser is used by over 50%of users.

Since its debut a few years ago the Google Chrome Web Brower has being embraced by technophiles and average computer owners alike. Featuring a search in the address bar, Chrome has set the new benchmark for the web browsing experience (w3sschools).8

With over 200 million users, Google maps is recognized as the most used map and navigation application, Google Maps has revolutionized location searching on the web by integrating real-time locations and images (Google).9

Jumping in the mobile device arena Googles Android Mobile Phone Operating System has been positively received by providing developers an open source platform to develop powerful smart phones and tablets that serves as an alternative to the competition.10

Since its debut, the Android OS has grown to over 100 million devices activated which phone carriers reporting close to 400,00 devices activated daily worldwide in over 112 counties. The Android App Store Play has seen over 4.5 billion apps installed total (Techfever).

More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month.

Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube.

You Tube has been a internet phenomenon. It appeals to every age group with more than 1billion unique visits each month. With You Tube users and share, edit, and view videos from all over the world.12

As with most companies that grow, Google had to establish a way to produce revenue in order to continue growing and prosper as a technical giant.13

What gives Google the power to make strives in technology is their ability to make revenue in advertising. In 2011 alone, Google made over $37.1 Billion dollars in advertising dollars which was over 96% of all total revenue that year for Google (Venture Beat). 14

One of Googles Strategic Plans is the implementation of Google +. With Google +, the companys foray into connecting the social network. Google wants to create a social layer with all their products such as You Tube and Google Search. The goal is to have users recommend videos and searches to other users who are connected on the platform (Google, Taylor).16

Googles Long Term Plan; Since Larry Pages return as CEO of Google, they have had a renewed focus on Investing in innovation, developing products that appeal to every interest, and continuing development on the Android OS platform (Google).17

Development of Google Glass

At 15 years young Google is calling its own shots and creating a path for technological innovation. With the development of Google Glass, the company is hoping the dawn of the wearable computer will culminate Googles ultimate goal: in addition to the core functions of taking photos and videos, Google sees this as a device wear the user can make and receive phone calls, get directions, and search for information (Kelleher).18

Google

Google is using technology to become a extension of what we do in our lives. Google is essentially a users digital assistant, providing user with what they need even before they needed it. While making ad-revenue is what brings dollars into the company, what Google is giving back to the world innovation that can benefit everyone. From translating foreign language via the search engine to beaming audio and video to emergency officials when you are distress, the possibilities are exciting (Shankland).19
