    turning one4s ba%# u"on His erses! something that all belieers must aoid( /ndeed! the Qur4an em"hasies that

    those ho turn their ba%#s on 6od4s erses and the "roofs of %reation are unbelieers(

    The im"ortan%e of %onstantly thin#ing about these signs to an indiidual4s groth and %ertainty of belief

    is em"hasied in many erses! su%h as3

    In the &reation o the heavens and Earth$ and the alternation o ni"ht and day$ there are Si"ns or

    %eo%le with intelli"en&e+ those who reeber God$ standin"$ sittin"$ and lyin" on their sides$ and rele&t

    on the &reation o the heavens and Earth+ Our Lord$ 0ou have not &reated this or nothin"# Glory be to

    0ou! So sae"uard us ro the %unishent o the Fire# '(ur)an$ ,+6ranging

    manner! about hat 6od has %reated so that e %an identify the isdom and detail in that %reation and thus bear

    itness to His infinite #noledge! might! and artistry(

    0ne method that %an be em"loyed is that of questioning and %om"aring the entities and "henomena

    around us( /n one erse! 6od gies us an eFam"le of su%h thin#ing3

    I e had willed$ e &ould have ade it Kthe water that you drink bitter# So will you not "ive

    Water! a blessing that %oers mu%h of the Earth! almost alays %an be found ith ease( The great majority

    eFisten%e and ho it meets our needs as something that does not require any %onsideration( The fa%t is! hoeer!

    that ater4s "hysi%al and %hemi%al "ro"erties %ould hae been ery different! had 6od so illed(

    /n addition! the atmos"here4s stru%ture or tem"erature %ould hae been different( /f that ere the %ase!

    there ould be no %louds and thus no sour%es of fresh ater on Earth( All e ould hae is the o%eans4 salt

    ater! in hi%h %ase humanity either ould not hae suried or ould hae done so only in a state of great

    diffi%ulty and %onstant %risis( Without fresh ater! there ould hae been no agri%ulture! and the orld ould

    hae be%ome a ast desert hose only "rodu%t is famine( ?et 6od gae us fresh ater just about eeryhere in

    the orld( 8or this! e must than# Him(

    But to genuinely feel and eF"ress that gratitude! first of all e must realie that ater is a blessing( This!

    in turn! de"ends on Kthin#ing(L The eFam"le of ater a""lies to all natural entities! liing things! and

    "henomena around us! ea%h of hi%h is a blessing from 6od( ?et in order to %om"rehend this! e need to as#3

    KWhat ould hae ha""ened had things been differentL and ma#e the ne%essary %om"arisons( And along ith

    this! e must understand that 6od has %reated the most deli%ate balan%es in all things( The im"ortan%e of

    thin#ing about natural "henomena and Kusing one4s reasonL ith regard to them is des%ribed in another erse3

    And in the alternation o ni"ht and day$ and in the %rovision God sends down ro the sky$

    brin"in" Earth to lie by it ater it has died$ and in the varyin" dire&tion o the winds$ there are Si"ns or

    %eo%le who use their intelle&t# '(ur)an$ 3*+*-

    Those K"eo"le ho use their intelle%tL are belieers! be%ause both intelligen%e and reason are a%quired

    only through faith( 5in%e unbelieers are bereft of reason! they %annot %om"rehend His signs and so "ass by

    these %ountless "roofs ithout seeing any of them( /ndeed! unbelieers are %hara%teried by a la%# of interest in

    the %ountless signs in Earth and s#y and by behaing as if they ere unaare of them( As the Qur4an states3

    How any Si"ns there are in the heavens and Earth! 0et they %ass the by$ turnin" away ro

    the# ost o the do not believe in God without asso&iatin" others with Hi# '(ur)an$ 61+62*427-

    > The se%ond feature required in a%quiring a dee"er a""re%iation and understanding of the signs leading to

    faith is "ossessing #noledge( But in order to see a subje%t as a sign leading to faith! there is no need to #no

    its most stri#ing as"e%ts or to hae ide and detailed information about it( Rational "eo"le! u"on loo#ing around

    themseles! immediately realie the eFtraordinary nature of hat they see and that eerything has a Creator(

    When they see an inse%t! su%h as a dragonfly! they #no that it has a Creator( The mere eFisten%e of a liing

    thing is enough to understand that it is a sign leading to faith( Thin#ing about the detailed information one %an
