This woman was elected to replace her
late husband in the position of governor,
becoming the first woman to hold a
governor position. Later, she was
selected by President Roosevelt to run the
Federal Mint—also the first woman to hold
that position!
This woman studied the dangerous
working conditions of factories in New York. Because of
her work, President Roosevelt selected her to serve as Secretary of Labor, becoming
the first woman to serve on the
president’s cabinet.
Sandra Day O’Connor
In 1981, President Ronald Reagan nominated this
woman to the U.S. Supreme Court. She was the first woman to hold
that position and retired in 2006. She is still alive
today!
