0.1 This Indian Standard ( Third Revision) wasadopted by the Bureau of Indian Standard on30 November 1988 after the draft finalized by theFire Fighting Sectional Committee had beenapproved by the Civil Engineering DivisionCouncil.0.2 Revolving branch pipes are normally usedfor fire fighting operation along with the hoses.Revolving branch pipe is employed to meet thosecases where it is necessary to fight fire in situations like ships hold and basements. Indianstandard was first published in 1958 and wasrevised in 1965 and 1972. The third revision hasbeen prepared &0 as to incorporate modifications

1. SCOPE1.1 This standard lays down the requirementsregarding material, shape, construction an d performance test of revolving branch pipe used infire fighting operations.2. DESCRIPTION2.1 Th e revolving branch pipe shall consist ofthe following components ( see Fig. 1 ):

a) Body,b) Revolving head,c) Cap, an dd) Steel ball

3. MATERIALS3.1 Copper Alloys - Copper alloys used forcastings or forgings shall conform to the requirements given below:

a) Sand Grade LTB 2 of IS : 318-1981'" orcastings Grade HTB 1 of IS : 304-1981 t*Specification for loaded tin bronze ingots and castings( second revision ).tSpecification for high tensile brass ingots and castings( second revision ).

3.2 Aluminium alloys used for the castings shaHconform to IS designation 4450, 4225 and 4600of IS : 617-1975.3.3 The ball shall be of stainless steel conforming to 4398-1972 The ball race shall be ofstainless steel conforming to IS: 4398-1972 11when the components are made of aluminiumalloy an d of the material mentioned in 3.1 whenthe components are made of copper alloy.

IS : 906 - 19884. DIMENSIONS AND CONSTRUCTION4.1 The general shape and prjncipal dimensionsshall be as given in Fig. I. The tolerance wherenot specified shall be O'5 mm. The nozzlesA, Band C shall be located on the circumferenceof the plane of revolution an d shall be inclinedat an angle of 60 9 to the tangent to the circularrevolving plane, the nozzles D, E and F shall bein the centre of upper half pointing upwards atan angle of 45 to the vertical, and the nozzlesG, Hand J shall be in the lower half pointingdownwards at an angle of 45 to the vertical.5. FINISH5.1 All parts shall be of good finish and clear ofburrs and sharp edges. All castings shall beclean and sound and shall be free from plugging,welding or repair of any defects.

6. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS6.1 The minimum pressure required for thebranch to start revolving shall be not more thanO'S MNjm 2 6.2 The branch shall be capable of rotatingwithout showing any leakage or failure for apressure of 1 MN/m2 for a period of 10 h continuous operation.7. MARKING7.1 Each revolving branch shall be clearly andpermanently marked with the following information:

a) Manufacturer's name or trade mark,b) Year of manufacture, andc) Type of material.

7.1.1 The equipment may also be marked withStandard Marks.

N O TE - The use of the Standard Mark is governedby the provisions of the Bureau of Indian StandardsAct 1986 and the Rules an d Regulations made thereunder. 8. CRITERIA OF CONFORMITY8.1 Each branch shall conform to the requirements given in this standard.
