Current events and expenditure
Town Bite
Agreed new structure for Town Bite following discussion. BID to enquire about having a stall at event promoting food businesses in the town centre, encourage businesses to do offers on the day. Invite business owners to come over to park with examples of food and give them opportunity of exposure to visitors.
LINK Fest
Event to be reviewed following LINK Fest 2018 on the 5th, 6th and 7th of October 2018. Event to take place across eleven venues.
Easter Trail
Trail needs to feature clues inside shops to make trail more interactive and encourage visitors to look around shops.
Christmas Window Display Competition Christmas Prize Draw
GeekedFest
Event reviewed, group not keen to invest in event for 2019 – would require control of event if BID were to invest again contact GeekedFest to see if they are happy to bring event back without BID involvement. Issue over measuring success of event as it does not directly impact a number of business in the town centre. Require a breakdown of the costs, ask for a reduction for BID’s ‘sponsorship’ of event.
Student Card
Cards have been ordered and will be taken to Coleg y Cymoedd Freshers Event and USW Freshers Fayre, forty businesses currently involved in the scheme. Student offers will be integrated into the app.

New events and ideas
- Your Pontypridd BID pop up stall/shop
Idea proposed to help raise awareness of Your Pontypridd brand in town centre – and to encourage interaction with the public to see what they want in the town centre. Ideal for using in promotional spaces in Pontypridd (Natwest/The Fountain)
- Finding ways of conducting surveys with BID members
Linking with students/freelancers to survey BID members to find out what their priorities are and what type of projects they would like to see to improve town centre. Potential for idea to be linked in with USW placement student’s role.
- Your Pontypridd merchandise
Idea proposed to help BID staff have things to give away at events the BID is involved in throughout the year. Merchandise could include bags, pens and interesting items for people to use or have on their person.
- Small business trade show
Potential discussed for small trade show in Muni Arts Centre encouraging BID members to participate in event and invite businesses from outside of Pontypridd to participate in B2B type event with talks from experts and advise sessions. Opportunity to use the Muni Arts Centre including main hall and gallery.
- Lamppost Banners
Lamppost banners to improve appearance of Town Centre and improve branding of BID in town centre and roads leading into Pontypridd. Idea may be proposed to Welcome and Access committee if funds not available via Marketing Group.
- Digital totems
Revisit the concept of having Emerge Advertising signs in the town centre or working with digital media companies to install smaller screens in businesses across Pontypridd to help improve branding of BID and give opportunities to businesses to advertise.
- App launch
Arrange a separate meeting to discuss format of launch of app which will be ready once information has been collated for app. Potential to advertise various offers in the town including student offers, staff offers, businesses taking part in water refill scheme and more.
3
- Signage districts
Concept of separate ‘districts’ in the Town Centre – Market Company has began working on concept of ‘Market Quarter’ potential for BID to rebrand key areas of Pontypridd possibly in partnership with RCT Council in conjunction with the launch of the new Taff Vale Development in Pontypridd.
- Santa on a Bus
Potential to work with Stagecoach Wales on concept of having a ‘Santa on the Bus’ in Mill Street, Pontypridd with opportunity to work with artists/local groups to help create a Christmas scene and decorate the bus to attract visitors, potential of utilising Stagecoach Wales following in partnership with Your Pontypridd BID.
- Interactive heritage map
Designing a map of Pontypridd to point out historical features and key areas of the town centre including Museum, fountain etc. BID could potentially work in partnership with Museum in design of map and it could be distributed throughout town centre businesses and be collected at information point in Pontypridd Museum.

5.1 PONTYPRIDD STUDENT ‘LOCK-IN’ type EVENT PROPOSAL
Pontypridd Town Centre, 3-8pm
20-25 Participating businesses offering 20% off their services/products
- Your Pontypridd have been working with Stagecoach on the ‘Hop, shop and save’ scheme where Stagecoach offer advertising on their buses in return for an ‘offer’ from the businesses in town.
- If we had 20+ businesses in town offering 20% off or more for the students for the ‘Lock in’ type event and for the remainder of the Student year. Stagecoach may be able to offer branding on the outside of their gold busses and on social media and their timetables.
- On the day of the Student Fair, we could promote this event alongside Stagecoach Wales stall, we could ask Stagecoach if the buses with the Student branding could be used to pick up students following the Freshers Fair and take them into Pontypridd free of charge.
- There could be two pick up times of 2.30pm & 3pm to ensure we get a decent number of students in the town. We could create a potential map or flyer with list of places offering the 20% or higher could be given to the student to encourage them to visit Pontypridd.
- As well as the retail offers in town, we could encourage the music venues to do something in the night to offer discounted/free entry to a show that night if the venues were to agree, to give them a night time experience in Pontypridd.
- Two pick up points in town centre to take them back to Treforest possibly Globetrotters and the bus station
- Work with Transport for Wales to get free travel passes again so students have both bus and train option to find their way back to Treforest
