Honoring our Past, Securing Our Future

Every parish in our Elgin Roman Catholic Family is blessed with parishioners who faithfully respond to the needs of the Church, giving gifts of time and talent, but also through generous weekly financial support. The generosity shown in our weekly offertories is a tribute to your love and support for your parish family.

We share our joy and love of the Lord Jesus as missionary Disciples. We are to be good stewards and must plan a path forward for our future, inspired by the Holy Spirit. “Strengthened by the Eucharist, we are moved to bring healing to a wounded world.”

Our church homes are no different than our own homes and significant maintenance and restoration projects need to be completed. Our pastoral and spiritual needs as a Family of Parishes are changing and this too requires our financial support. These needs are accumulating and fall outside the generous weekly support of our faithful community.

In the coming weeks, we will build a team to launch a capital campaign across the Elgin Roman Catholic Family of Parishes. Could this be a place the Lord is calling you to serve?

We eagerly look forward to your generous response to continue building His Kingdom here in our Elgin Roman Catholic Family of Parishes.

LIFE IS HARD, BUT HAVE NO FEAR

Today’s readings take a fearless look at reality and reach a conclusion that we all know: life is hard. The prophet Malachi preaches fire and brimstone, warning us that evildoers will perish in flames. Saint Paul offers his own warning to the Thessalonians: keep busy, but never become a busybody. He reminds Christians that the apostles themselves worked in “toil and drudgery” as a model for how we ought to contribute to our community. The Gospel returns to the apocalyptic tone of Malachi, describing the utter chaos of the end-times. We will know the end is near when violence, catastrophe, and hatred dominate the earth. But we must not fear! God’s saving plan brings peace to our hearts. Malachi speaks of the sun’s “healing rays,” and Jesus himself promises to protect every hair on our heads. (Copyright © J. S. 13 November 2019 To: The Faithful of the Diocese of London Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In June 2017, at the conclusion of the Jubilee of Mercy, Pope Francis offered the Church a World Day of the Poor, “so that throughout the world Christian communities can become an ever greater sign of Christ’s charity for the least and those most in need.” Inspired by Jesus’ preferential love for the poor, as well as by the example set by Pope Francis, I have chosen the third World Day of the Poor, November 17, 2019, as the day to launch the Pope Francis Fund for the Poor. Thanks to the sale of surplus land adjacent to St. Peter's Seminary, I am able to commit one million dollars to this fund on behalf of all the faithful of the Diocese. The money will be invested in an endowment fund. The proceeds earned will be given annually to agencies, carefully selected through a grant application process, that directly serve the needs of people who are underprivileged. In the Pope Francis Fund for the Poor, it is my goal that our faith community is taking concrete action to serve those who are struggling to meet their basic human needs. It is a public declaration that we must take to heart the words of Jesus; “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40). The endowment will be a continuing source of assistance for those in need, as well as a reminder that we are truly missionary disciples of Christ. One million dollars is a considerable sum, but it is only a seed. I urge every parish and every individual in the Diocese to consider how each of us is able to help our brothers and sisters in need. As your bishop, I warmly invite you to join this collective effort by making a donation to the Pope Francis Fund for the Poor. Pope Francis ends his letter with these words: “This new World Day, therefore, should become a powerful appeal to our consciences as believers, allowing us to grow in the conviction that sharing with the poor enables us to understand the deepest truth of the Gospel. The poor are not a problem: they are a resource from which to draw as we strive to accept and practise in our lives the essence of the Gospel.” Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Rev. Ronald P. Fabbro, C.S.B. Bishop of London

ONLINE DONATIONS

The Challenge As fewer and fewer people carry cash and/or cheques, the Elgin Roman Catholic Family of Parishes has searched for an easier and more effective way to accept donations at any event or occasion. Our Family’s non-cash option is limited to pre-authorized debit, a cumbersome approach which requires the completion of a form, VOID cheque and annual updates. Our goal is to increase payment method flexibility and allow parishioners to choose a payment approach that is easy for them.

The Solution The Pllenty Company has a solution available to meet the challenge in a cost-effective and user-friendly manner. Elgin Roman Catholic Family of Parishes’ parishioners and visitors can now make donations online by computer or on any mobile device. In each Parish you can scan the QR Code (see samples on reverse) located at each entrance and the bulletin board or in each Parish office. The QR Code will take you to a mobile page specially designed for your parish, which can also be saved on you mobile home screen like any application. At home you can access our website (elginrcparishes.ca) using your computer or use your mobile device to make online donations. Donation payment options are also more flexible. You can choose from a number of funds at the Parish (regular offertory, ad-hoc donation, Building Fund, Diocesan Assessment, etc.) while at the same time deciding when and at what frequency you would like donations to occur. You can be confident that all donations are being automatically recorded and reported appropriately on annual tax slips. Getting Started Is Easy

With your mobile device, tap or scan the QR code associated with the Parish you want to donate to. Follow the instructions on the screen to make your donation. On your computer, go to the Family of Parishes website – elginrcparishes.ca – and click on the DONATE button. Select the Parish you wish to donate to and follow the instructions.
