President’s Message
Dear Members,
The month of March is finally here and with it, our beloved parade and St. Patrick’s Day. This is the time of year we celebrate the patron saint of Ireland and there is no better place to do that than at the Irish American Home Society! We kick off the season with our Annual Corned Beef Dinner on Sunday, March 4th. On Saturday, March 10th, the Greater Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade winds its way through the streets of Hartford. Come by the Club after the parade for one of the best Parade Day celebrations around. And last, but not least…St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 17th! Look for the details on these events in this news-letter. We really hope to see you during the month of March so come by and enjoy all your club has to offer!
A reminder… if you can’t get to the parade you can view it live on Fox 61. The parade will be led this year by Grand Marshal Lil Holleran and Person of the Year Clement Sayers. Both of this year’s honorees are proud members of this society. If you would like to march in the club’s contingent and carry a county flag, please contact me. Each year, on the morning of the parade, we scramble to ensure we have 32 flag bearers….so please let me know in advance if you would like to march, as we’d love to have you !
We still have some fabulous volunteer opportunities available…details follow in this newsletter. I know we’ve got some seriously talented potato peelers and sandwich makers out there! Sign up and help support your club…and have some fun, too!
Beannachtai na Feile Padraig Daoibh Go Leir (The blessings of St. Patrick’s Day to you)!
All the best,
Elizabeth O’Leary
President

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
The Club now has an AED mounted on the wall near the front door. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm & can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. Anyone can use the AED in a cardiac emergency. It will talk you through what you need to do and will not work if you have connected the device to the person incorrectly. Please take notice of the location so that we are all prepared in case of an emergency.

Memorial Funds
Please consider naming one of two funds the IAHS
has established over the years to receive memorial
donations upon your passing. Both funds are
intended to memorialize our deceased loved ones
while benefiting our members. The first is our
Scholarship Fund which was established to grant
educational scholarships to the children of members
in good standing. Scholarships are awarded in June of each year. The second fund is our Building
Renovation Fund, established to help fund the
proposed new building and renovation of the existing
building.

WINTER STORM CLOSING
INFORMATION
The winter season is upon us and with that brings the
eventuality of ice, snow and wintry mix. The Irish
American Home Society will do its best to remain open
during inclement weather but will close if conditions
warrant. Closing information may be found on our web-
site and the following TV stations: WFSB Channel 3,
WVIT Channel 30 and Fox 61. We ask that you refrain
from parking in our lot during snow storms so that snow
removal may be done as quickly and completely as
possible. If we need a plow to return to re-plow where a
car sat during a storm, we pay additional snow removal
costs. Thank you!!
SIGN IN YOUR GUESTS!

liquor laws may result in fines or other penalties such as
closure of our pub for a period determined by the Liquor

exceptions. This is your club…protect it at all times!
Thank you for your cooperation.

Live traditional Irish music continues on the 1st and 3rd
Sundays of each month at the Irish American Home
Society, from 4 to 6 pm. Come join the singers and
musicians at this open seisiun. Listen or play along with
the lively jigs and reels…sing a song if you are so
inclined…or simply relax and enjoy the music of Ireland.

3 to 4 pm. This is an opportunity to learn Irish music.

the need arises, please contact Charlie Murray at

services. If you would like to have an Honor Guard
at a member’s funeral, please call Charlie or
