RNC site connections (with NPGE or NPS1)

Internal LAN: ESA24 connected with OMU, OMS (NEMU), NPGE (backplane FE port)and NPS1 (backplane FE port).

ICSU IP traffic including the LCS traffic is transport to the network interface units (NPGE orNPS1) through the internal ATM network.

If no NPGE is configured in the network element, the NPS1 can be configured to route theIP based LCS traffic to the edge router via the ESA24.

    Logical IP address

Logical IP address is associated with a working-state functionalunit.

It inherits the redundancy scheme used with the functional unit itwas configured to.

Thus, there are non-redundant, 2N-redundant and logical IP

    addresses.

Logicality is a proprietary (Nokia-specific) attribute of an IPaddress.

Set/defined when IP addresses are configured via MML interface:

    ZQRN:OMU:EL0:172.16.0.6,L;

Implemented in the IP layer (no moving MAC addresses etc.)

    Carrier sense IP address

Can be used in computers with two integrated Ethernet devices (e.g.CCP10 PIU).

The carrier sense IP address is configured to both interfaces, but it isactive on only one interface at a time.

If the carrier signal is lost on the active interface, the IP address is

reconfigured to the other (backing interface).

Note that also logical IP addresses can be configured to be carriersense IP addresses.

Implementation is based on Ethernet driver's ability to supervise the

    link status.
