Invitation and Call for Papers

Dear colleagues and participantsDear members and friends of the Swiss Spine Society

We cordially invite you to attend the 20th – a round anniversary! – annual meeting of the Swiss Society of Spine Surgery in Basel. The last, very successful meeting has yielded a living proof that our society is now grown up and ready to further develop. As we will network again the day before the meeting in Basel with its world- renowned art museum in its neoclassical building dating back to the 1930-ies, we visit a symbol for the further development of such traditional entities by touring through the new modern LED labeled art museum extension block designed by the local architects Christ&Gantenbein. We will then walk down across the Wetts-tein bridge to enjoy a dinner at the bank of the river Rhine. The main topic of the scientific meeting will be “Deformities” reaching from the growing age to the degenerative spine, from orthopaedic to neurosurgical topics such as associated intraspinal pathologies and postlaminectomy kyphosis. We invited Dietrich Schlenzka from Helsinki – an out-of-the-box spinal surgeon: he will give his mind and meeting opening keynote lecture entitled “From Harrington to heavy metal – can we outsmart nature?“. Responding to your constructive critics we aim at bundling a selection of free papers around the lunch break and the members meeting/general assembly which should give more time to visit the industry exhibition and in addition should keep our participants at stake in the afternoon for the second half of the day. As a novel basic structure we embrace the main lectures by interesting case presentations and discussions.

It would be our distinct pleasure to welcome and host you in Basel.

Local hosts Stephan Schären, Prof. MD President SGSRaphael Guzman, Prof. Dr. med. Carol-Claudius Hasler, Prof. Dr. med.

Exchange and Networking on Thursday, January 7, 2021After the success of last year‘s network dinner, we would like to repeat it this year in the restaurant “Krafft Basel”. The restaurant is close to the Volkshaus Basel. In this charming ambience you can round off the evening. We will start with an aperitif at 07:00 pm which will be followed by a 3-course menu dinner as described below:

Starter: baked goat cheese served with a summer saladMain course: saddle of veal, jus demi-glace, varnished semolina slices, seasonal vegetables Dessert: felchlin grand cru chocolate parfait, raspberry sorbet

A vegetarian menu can be ordered. Please select this in your registration.

The networking dinner fees are CHF 100.--.

Before the dinner, from 06:15 pm to 07:15 pm, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a private guided tour of the Kunstmuseum Basel extension block which is located 10 minutes by walk from the restaurant.

Should you need accommodation for the night of 7 – 8 January, we will be glad to book it for you. We have reserved rooms in three different hotels next to the location. You can choose your hotel room during the registration for the congress. Please be informed that we will only make the reservation and you are responsible to cover the expenses.
