H oliday greetings!

Whether your excitement matches mine because you are about to enter a time filled with joy and smiling faces, or because you get a few days off work, here are some things-to-do suggestions for the upcoming holiday-filled period. For the couch-pota to c rowd, inspiration to stir may come by checking out the top movies as selected by the Golden Horse committee, or checking to-visit places suggested by Latin representatives to Taiwan in Latins, Ta iwanese Share Passion for the Good Things in Life, where appreciation for a lively city bounded by mountains bursts forth.

Maybe you, like me, have reason to miss the fun of this festive season as experienced in North America and other points West - the Christmas carols, mistletoe, food, and so much more. We serve up a special article this issue on restaurants famous for Peking duck. So why spend time preparing or going out in search of Christmas turkey? After all, duck is a great European Christmas tradition. And after studying about ducks, why not get quacking on our helpful piece on table etiquette on page 56, which will prevent embarrassment at the dining table? If poultry is not on your to-savor list for the festive season, our article on Christmas traditions in

Taipei will nevertheless lend a hand in tackling your other seasonal-planning traditions while in this faraway land.

Visits to friends will no doubt appear repeatedly on your agenda

calendar during this season, when two big festivals come roaring in, Christmas and Chinese New Year.
