PROJECT BACKGROUND

Klang is the royal city and former capital of the state of Selangor in Malaysia. The name Klang is inspired from Dato Ee. It is located within the Klang District in Klang Valley. It is located about 32 km to the west of Kuala Lumpur and 6 km east of Port Klang. It was the civil capital of Selangor in an earlier era prior to the emergence of Kuala Lumpur and the current capital, Shah Alam. We see that it has potential to be developed because it has quite a number of empty lands.

The empty land we have chosen is located near Jalan Teluk Pulai, 41100 Klang. In this area, we have a restaurant, a residential area and a motorbike shop in front of the land, a hindu temple and a residential area opposite the road. Our site is full of weeds and trees. We think we should develop this land as it is wide and not being used by the land owner. We want to make it as a useful place to serve for the residents in this area.

SITE OBSERVATION

The location we have chosen is an abandoned empty land which is located near Jalan Teluk Pulai, 41100, Klang. This land has been abandoned more than 10 years because the land owner doesn’t have enough budget to develop it. This land is filled with overgrown weeds and woody trees. The bushes is very messy and this affect the whole appearance of the land. The whole land looks like a small forest surrounded by residential areas. The empty land is approximately 40m x 64m and measures about 2560m2. We think that this area lack of commercial area like 7-11 or 99- speedmart and bookshop. With the dense population in this area, we think we should build a bookshop for people who loves reading and a convenience store for the residents to buy their daily needs. This would bring lots of benefits to the residents living nearby.

SITE ANALYSIS

WIND DIRECTIONThe wind blows from west and it’s moderate.

CAR CIRCULATIONCars are allowed to enter and exit our site through the small roads to the 2 entrances provided. Drivers are also allowed to park their vehicles at the empty land beside our site as there are wide space for numbers of cars. There will be traffic jam at the road outside our site during mornings and evenings because people need to pass through the road forth and back to and back from their workplace.

SUNLIGHTThe sunlight shines from east to the west. Due to no building blocking our site, the whole area is exposed to sunlight always.

INTRODUCTION

Our convenience store is a single storey building. It is to provide convenient to the residents living in this area. They can buy food, drinks or daily objects just by walking here. Besides, this convenience store also provide entertainment to the customers. They can have teatime here or play arcades together with friends. Our main purpose is to make this a relaxing & enjoyable place instead of just a boring place selling daily products. Just like the most convenience store, our store is 24 hours available, to provide people who does not sleep early a place to have supper & entertainment. Besides, there are lots of empty space beside our site so customers do not have to worry about finding a parking lot.

CONCEPT

Our convenience store will be made from glass. This idea is based on the concept of Apple Store Fifth Avenue located at New York City, United States of America. Using glass design for the building brings numerous benefits. First, this will save electricity as the whole convenience will be brighten up during the days with the help of strong sunlight. We will only have to open the lights at night and this will sharply decrease the cost for electricity bills. Furthermore, people passing by can have a clear look of the whole convenience store. They can easily notice what is in the store and they will be attracted to enter the shop. Besides, people inside the store can enjoy the scenery outside when they are buying groceries or enjoying a cup of coffee. They can also notice their car easily inside the store to prevent theft of their cars.

MATERIAL USED

Type of glass used for building

-3 types of glasses are combined together to provide useful functions for the convenience store.

1) Security glass Laminated glass is used to improve its resistance to impact and breakage. Laminated glass can be made so strong that it is practically impossible to break, making it

feasible to use glass wherever desired, even where high security requirements apply, including bullet-resistant applications. In the case of breakage, fragments adhere to the flexible "interlayer" between glass layers, reducing the chance of injuries.

2) Solar controlled glass Tinted glass is glass designed to reduce or prevent solar heating of buildings. In the body tint approach, the colour causes the glass to absorb solar energy, which is then

re-radiated back out and away from the building. This technology reduces the solar heating that tends to take place in the convenience store, and thus reduce the need for air conditioning. It is therefore an energy-saving technology.

It helps prevent uncomfortable overheating in the store, and it can also reduce irritating glare from direct sunlight.

3) Noise controlled glass The acoustic glass in a double-glazed unit uses a special interlayer that acts as a dampening

core so that sound energy is effectively blocked from passing from the outside to the inside pane of glass.

Acoustic glass is used to prevent noise from entering the convenience store as the store is near to busy roads that will cause noise pollution.

Type of tiles

1) Porcelain tile ( for store ) Easy to keep clean ( dirt and spills can be easily removed using a mop or sponge ) Do not absord odor or stains High water resistance factor Long lasting

2) Ceramic tile ( for toilet ) Rough surface to prevent slippery Available in wide range of colour, size, shape, texture Strong and durable
