3. Drawatleast4ofthese6itemsinonecomposition.Youcanchangethesize/scaleofanyofthesethings,tomakeaninterestingbutsurrealcombination.Exploretheconceptofsymbolismandthinkaboutpossiblemeaningsoftheobjectsinrelationshiptooneanother.Forexample,whatiftheappleissobigitfillsupthechair?...

1. Collectatleast6leaves,twigsorflowersfromoutside-(Withparentalpermission)Goforasociallydistantwalktofindthemifyoudon’thavethesethingsinyouryard.

2. Onceyougetthembackinside.Wetthemalittlebit.Shakeoffextrawaterthenplacethedampflowers,leavesandtwigsonapieceofpaperinaninterestingpattern.

3. Thenmovetheobjectsandtracethewetshapeswithapenorpencil.Theinkmaybleed,andthepencilmaycutaholeinthewetpaperifyoupressdowntoohard,sobegentleandjustcarefullyoutlinethewetshapes.Youmayormaynotbeabletorecognizetheobjectfromthesewetspots.That’sOK.

4. Nextblowdrythepaperorletairdryinthesun.Nexttracetheobjectsagainoncetheyaredry.Thistime,trytoperfecttheoutlineandoverlapthefirstdesignatleast5times.

5. Nowthatyouhavelotsofnaturalformsoutlined,turnitintoamorefinisheddrawingbyaddingcolorwithwatercolorifyouhaveit,coloredpencil,markeroranythingavailable.Tryanddrawdetailsoftextureandformthatyoucanobserveinthesenaturalobjects.LookattheworksofJohnJamesAudubonforinspiration-seenbelow.(approx.3hours)

Week6April27th-May1st

1. Askafamilymembertomodelforyou.Thinkabouthowthebodypositionandbodylanguagecanconveyamoodandposethemaccordingtohowyouwantthemtolookfromthepointofviewthatyouaredrawing.Posethemwithinterestingprops,petsorfabrics.Usepencilandaddshading-toshowvalue,andusethickandthinlinestoshowtexturesandshapesinthescene.Doatleast2drawings-eitherthesamepersonfrom2differentviewsortwodifferentfamilymembers.(approx.30mineachsketch-1hourtotal)

2. Selectyourfavoriteoneofthesesketchestomakeintoamorefinisheddrawing/painting.Ifyoudon’thaveanypaintorink–trytomakeyourown-boilsomecoffeeorteaforafewminutestomakeitmoreconcentrated.OnceitiscoolyoucanpaintwithitlikeyouwoulduseIndiaink.Youcanusethissametechniquetomakecolorswithjuice,sodaorotherfoodsthathaveastrongcolor.Onlyusenaturalthingstomakeinkwith-nochemicals,perfumesorcleaners.IfyouhavetheInternetwatchinstructionalvideosonmakingnaturalinks(onlytrythiswithparentalpermission).Usewhatevermaterialsyouhavearoundthehouseifyoudon’twanttotryandmakeink.Lookattheportrait/figurepaintingsofAliceNeelforinspiration.Seenbelow(approx.2hours)
