Dear Members, Partners, and Friends, SSC recently learned that it was one of fourteen area businesses awarded the 2010 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. We also received this award in 2008, speaking to our ongoing dedication to support our staff as they engage in the vital work that we do to meet our member’s needs. This prestigious award is part of the When Work Works project, an ongoing initiative of Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (ICW), an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Twiga Foundation. It recognizes employers that are successfully using flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy to achieve business goals and benefit employees by helping them meet their responsibilities on and off the job. As a recipient of the 2010 Sloan Award, our organization ranks in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of its programs, policies, and culture of flexibility. I mention this award to not only applaud the SSC Board and staff for this honor and achievement, but to accentuate that we strive to be a forward-thinking, supportive, and innovative organization. Supported by flexibility, SSC staff are motivated, energized, and ready to serve our members. It is one of the reasons that we retain high-quality individuals who are uniquely skilled, multi-talented, and adaptive. We sincerely hope that you find your organization’s programs and services to be valuable, collaborative, and proactive. We strive to continually improve and grow with each and every year. Thank you for your support!

Suzanne Riley, Executive Director
