description

The HR metadata is a wiki where the dutch national government is maintaining a set of HR-related definitions and contextualizations (based on the ISO 11179) model. In this presentation we'd like to show some of the features and ideas we used to build this system and some of troubles we encountered.

Today I will talk about HR metadata, a

project I did for the ministry of the Interior

(NL)

- It all started with a number of simple questions:- How many people work for the national government?

- How many people with a handicap are working for the national

govenrment

- How many people shift from one job to another within government?

- Answering these questions was apparently hard:- Took a lot of time to get answers

- We’d see incomparable results

- We found that people used different definitions…

We build a system, based on ISO11179, in

Semantic mediawiki to store meaning of

definition

- But it had to be:

- WCAG 2 compliant (and then some Dutch

- Branding compliant

- The wiki needed to be both open for collaboration and

closed because some of the data is not to be

compromised

- The wiki needed a faceted search function

look-and-feel, user experience so let’s take

a look.

BZK search, specially created Search

function

- Uses Mediawiki search, - Places all search results in arry

- If there is any page of Category DefinitionPage that has

semanticProperty Name which equals the search query then go to

said DefinitionPage

- If not, order the results in the array according to a pre-determined

order (based on categories, semantic properties, and initial search

result order)

- Then show, possibly filter by category.
